    No full text
This study is a bachelor's degree project in Information Design with a focus on spatial design. The purpose of this study is to investigate how spatial visual elements interact to support the visitor's orientation and understanding of a chronological sequence of events in an exhibition environment, even when the content is not experienced in a chronological order. Although chronological narrative is well established in exhibition environments, there is limited knowledge about how physical, visual and informative elements affect visitor's understanding of temporal content.  Using the exhibition Fossils and Evolution at the Swedish Museum of Natural History as a starting point, the study focuses on investigating how spatial and visual elements support the visitor's orientation and perception of temporal progression.   The results from conducted methods such as observations, site analysis and interviews, show that the lack of visual clues guiding information complicates the visitor's understanding of the narrative structure of the exhibition. Based on these insights, combined with previous research and relevant theories, a design proposal has been developed. The proposal is based on theories of visual perception, spatial legibility and wayfinding, with the aim of strengthening the spatial interaction and clarifying the temporal progression.   The study thus highlights the need for a more integrated interaction between physical, visual and informative elements. This is to create a comprehensible and orientable experience of the temporal sequence of events, regardless of whether the visitor follows a predetermined order or moves freely through the exhibition

    No full text
Purpose: This study analyses and compares the most common construction materials in the Swedish construction industry (wood, concrete and steel) regarding to their environmental impact and technical properties. Method: The work is based on an extensive literature study, comparative analysis and life cycle assessment (LCA) of the materials. As part of the study, a hand calculation was also carried out for a garage made of wood, concrete and steel, in order to quantify and compare their climate impact. In order to be able to compare the environmental impact of the materials of the garage, One Click LCA was used. The study were reinforced by three case studies of real construction projects, each representing one of the materials. The analysis shows that wood generally has the lowest climate impact of the three materials, but requires special protection measures and greater technical understanding to achieve long-term sustainability. Concrete and steel have a higher climate impact but offer robust technical properties, and opportunities for improvement exist primarily through fossilfree production processes and material optimization. Results: The results of the calculations are consistent with literature study, showing that wood has the lowest climate impact, followed by concrete, then steel that have the highest impact. This confirms that Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an effective method for evaluating the environmental impact of construction materials. However, certain challenges remain in selecting materials, particularly due to the limited availability of comparable and reliable climate impact data across different construction materials. Conclusion: The conclusion is that material choice has a significant impact on the environmental footprint of buildings, but through early implementation of life cycle assessments and increased knowledge of material properties, more sustainable construction solutions can be achieved. INT

Swedish research collaborations with China still increasing, but politically more difficult

    No full text
China’s importance in international research cooperation has increased dramatically in recent decades. China has become Sweden’s fourth largest research partner, measured by the number of co-publications by Swedish and Chinese authors. Recent bibliometric data shows that the number of such co-publications has increased in the past five years. The increase in Sino-Swedish research collaboration is showing signs of slowing down but the data does not suggest a similar trajectory to that of the United States, where research collaboration with China has decreased in recent years. While formal collaborations, such as agreements with the China Scholarship Council (CSC), have reduced and even been cancelled, many collaborations are proceeding as usual. Researchers who collaborate with China regard it as important in their respective fields and have a generally positive view of such collaboration. An online survey of Swedish researchers, mostly in STEM-related fields, conducted for this study reveals that almost all (89 percent) felt that their collaboration with Chinese partners had worked well. In addition, 88 percent of respondents either fully or partly agreed that collaboration between the two countries was valuable in their field. The study reveals frustration among scholars that research collaboration with China is becoming increasingly politicized. More than half (57 percent) of participants thought that political obstacles had led to a downsizing of research collaboration with China, even though no decrease in the number of co-publications was found. The survey revealed frustration with how security policies were being implemented at the researchers’ universities, which was described by one respondent as a “witch hunt”. Examples of poor implementation of security policies, as perceived by Swedish researchers, include potentially discriminatory recruitment practices and the indiscriminate cancellation of research collaborations with universities known to have close military ties – commonly referred to as the “Seven Sons of National Defence” – on security grounds, with no consideration for the specific research area. Several respondents expressed regret that Swedish universities were no longer able to accept students from the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Although most concerns identified in the study were related to the perceived overpoliticization of collaboration with China in Sweden, the study also revealed smaller but not insignificant concerns about political problems that stemmed from the Chinese side. In fact, 34 percent either partly or fully agreed that scholars involved in cooperation between Sweden and China faced the risk of unjust surveillance by the Chinese authorities while 16 percent worried that their safety might be negatively affected when they travel to China. In addition, 39 percent believed that expressing political views might harm cooperation with their Chinese partners. Concerns about an increasingly repressive political climate in China and the politicization of the country’s universities were also raised

Brottsförebyggande arbete inom grundskolan : En hermeneutisk studie gällande skolpersonalens roll inom detbrottsförebyggande arbetet

    No full text

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming higher education, particularly in management and business disciplines. AI facilitates data-driven instruction and simulation-based learning, enabling students to engage with complex managerial scenarios in real time. This exploratory study investigates the application of AI in developing job interview skills within an educational context. Conducted as part of a course in a Swedish university’s program in business, students participating in AI-powered mock job interviews were studied. Students completed surveys and submitted reflective assignments on their competency development. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study examines the impact of AI on learning outcomes and skill acquisition. Early analysis of qualitative data reveals that students experienced improvements in communication, emotional regulation, adaptability, and professionalism. These findings contribute to the growing discourse on AI’s role in enhancing educational practices and offers important theoretical and practical insights

An Operatic Chamber Model : Towards a Structured Visitor's Journey in Immersive Opera

    No full text
How can a live opera performance stimulate visitor involvement by displaying immersive features!? With the AI-based chamber opera The Prophecies, we took the opportunity to structure a visitor’s journey through a series of differentiated chambers inhabited by both human and machine agents. This model was primarily informed by distinctions made about game immersion from cognitive science and game studies. We propose that in an inter active opera in which the visitor is treated as a player, the interdisciplinary transfer of such conceptual makeup into the artistic realm is highly relevant and useful for artists. The result of the implementation of concepts from other fields into immersive chamber opera is a blended model for visitor involvement in relation to operatic elements. As this model, while still rudimentary, combines the perceptual dimensions of the sensory elements in opera with the psychological dimensions of the cognitive aspects of game-playing in a concrete way, it may function as a basis for a more systematic development of opera with ludic features

PLISP : A PlayLISt Processing Language

    No full text
This paper introduces a text-based, domain-specific language (DSL) for audio sample manipulation and playlist-based granular synthesis, embedded within the Cycling '74 Max \texttt{v8ui} environment using the mgraphics system, supporting real-time control and live coding. The interface enables command-line interaction with large-scale local audio corpora organised on a 2D self-organising map (SOM). It employs LISP-inspired prefix syntax and nested expressions, enabling performers to navigate and manipulate audio material through gesture-based control. The system emphasises modularity and customisation, enabling each musical gesture to be independently timed, chained, or sequenced, whilst supporting interaction models based on path-finding, spectral feature and metadata attribute filtering, and stochastic and probabilistic variation. This paper outlines the system’s architecture and influences, describes its core syntax and behaviors, and discusses implications for future developments in live coding design
