"With the children in the green?” : A qualitative study on how preschool teachers teach about sustainable development
Hands-on Activities vs. Digital Tools : A Math Learning Comparison in Primary Education
This study explores how digital tools and hands-on methods influence student learning in primary mathematics, particularly in multilingual and mixed-age classrooms. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000), constructivism (Piaget, 1967), and constructionism (Papert, 1980), the research builds on existing debates around digitalization and experiential learning in education. While previous studies have examined these approaches separately, few have directly compared them in diverse, real-life classroom settings. The study aims to understand how each method affects student engagement, motivation, understanding, and independence. Research questions address the impact of hands-on and digital tools, as well as the opportunities and challenges of using them. A qualitative comparative case study was conducted in a small international school. Data were collected through classroom observations, informal student interviews, teacher interviews, and teachers’ lesson plans, analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis framework. Findings show that digital tools support procedural independence and short-term motivation through feedback and rewards, while hands-on methods promote deeper conceptual understanding, engagement, and strategic independence through collaboration and physical interaction. The study concludes that combining both approaches can enhance inclusive, engaging, and sustainable learning environments
This study explores the key differences between private 5G and Wi-Fi (802.11ax)technologies and investigates the factors influencing Swedish enterprises in choosingbetween them. As wireless communication becomes increasingly vital for operationalefficiency, understanding the strengths and limitations of each technology is essentialfor informed decision-making. The study combines document analysis with expertinterviews to compare private 5G and Wi-Fi in terms of architecture, security, throughput, latency, coverage, cost, and real-world applicability.Private 5G offers advantages such as enhanced baseline security, ultra-low latency, andreliable coverage, making it suitable for demanding environments like industrialautomation, military operations, and critical infrastructure. In contrast, Wi-Fi remainsa cost-effective and widely adopted solution for office environments and generalenterprise use, valued for its ease of deployment and familiarity. The findings reveal that while private 5G is technically superior in many aspects, itsadoption is often hindered by high costs, complexity, and a lack of ecosystem maturity.Wi-Fi, on the other hand, is often seen as “good enough” for many use cases. The studyalso highlights a growing interest in hybrid network solutions, where both technologiesare used together to balance performance, cost, and reliability. This research provides valuable insights for enterprises evaluating wireless networkstrategies and contributes to the broader understanding of how emerging technologiesare shaping the digital infrastructure in Sweden
Cybersecurity in transition: Sweden's first year as a NATO member
The purpose of this study is to investigate how Sweden’s entry into NATO has affected the country’s cybersecurity during its first year as a member. Many different experts published their prognoses at the time of the entry, speculating as to how cybersecurity would be affected. This study compares and contrasts these prognoses to the actual development from the past year. The methods chosen were a document study and an interview study. The document study generated data from a range of different sources such as academic publications, new sources and official reports from the government. The document study was used to generate a broader understanding of the country’s cybersecurity. The interview study was chosen for a more focused perspective on how the NATO membership has affected how companies and authorities work with cybersecurity issues. The interview study was carried out with four respondents in semi structured interviews. The result of the document study was that the prognoses were mainly accurate. The threat level against Sweden has increased and the amount of cyberattacks is higher than it was previous to Sweden’s entry into NATO. The result of the interview study was that the respondents were unable to provide specific examples of changes made to their cybersecurity work as a direct result of the NATO membership. The conclusion of this study is that while Sweden’s cybersecurity has been affected as a direct result of its entry into NATO, these changes are so far not so serious that companies and organisations have been forced to change the way they work with cybersecurity. An important limitation to this study is the problems that arise from trying to separate effects of the NATO membership from the effects of the war in Ukraine as these are highly intertwined.
Young leading women : A qualitative study exploring young women's perspectives on their leadership role
Background: Despite an increased focus on gender equality in the workplace, women are still underrepresented in leadership positions. In particular, young women in leadership roles may face challenges, where both gender and age as interacting factors can be contributing reasons. Research shows that their competence is often questioned and that they have to work harder to be accepted. At the same time, there is limited research exploring how young women themselves view their leadership position, which creates a need for a deeper understanding of what they value and the challenges they experience in their role. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe young women's perspectives on their leadership role. Method: The study is based on a qualitative research strategy with a deductive approach. Six semi-structured interviews have been conducted with young women in leadership positions in Jönköping County. The empirical material has been analyzed using thematic analysis, and the identified themes have been interpreted based on the theoretical framework. Conclusion: Young women in leadership positions see leadership as something supportive, inclusive, and relationship-building. They value relationships, having control over their own work, and opportunities for development, but also face challenges such as self-doubt, prejudice, and the need to prove their competence, even though their experience of the leadership role is overall positive
Digital violence in young romantic relationships : A survey study on social workers' perceptions of how digital violence is perpetrated, its prevalence and normalization, and its link to mental health, social relationships, and participation
Digital violence has, in line with digitalization, emerged as a new form of violence in romantic relationships, particularly among young couples. The aim of this study is to examine how social workers perceive digital violence as it is enacted against young women in intimate relationships and how it relates to their mental health, social relationships and participation in society. The study also aims to examine how social workers understand the role that social media plays in the dissemination and normalization of digital violence. The study is based on a cross-sectional web survey answered by professionals within social services in seven different municipalities, all of whom have experience working with violence in young people’s relationships. The data are presented through results that have been analyzed and theoretically interpreted using the concepts of coercive control, the normalization process, and self-determination theory. The main results of the study show that, according to respondents, the most common forms of digital violence include sending threating or offensive messages, excessive calling or texting, and spreading private or sexual images or videos. The results also indicates that social workers perceive this violence to be clearly associated with young women´s mental health, their participation in everyday life, and their social relationships. Finally, the study shows that social workers believe there is a connection between social media use and the spread and normalization of digital violence, and that the professional role plays a part in how this is perceived

Introduction – This thesis addresses thefts at construction sites and how contracting companies handle the issue. Theft from construction sites is a common problem and continues to increase. These thefts result in financial losses for contracting companies. Contracting companies need to implement security measures and maintain security efforts to prevent theft, which is both time-consuming and costly. The aim of this study is to examine the security efforts and theft prevention measures employed by contracting companies at construction sites, as well as to identify challenges and potential areas for improvement. Method – The study is conducted as a case study to investigate the security practices of contracting companies at construction sites. Interviews were used as the data collection method, generating qualitative data. This qualitative data has been used to answer the research questions of the study. The interviews were semi-structured and conducted with respondents from contracting companies operating on construction sites. Results – The results of the study are presented through eight distinct themes to outline the collected data. These themes include security practices, security measures, theft, material management, machinery and tool handling, resource allocation, the theft process, and the role of the construction site. The findings indicate that there are differences between specific construction sites and contracting companies in their efforts to prevent theft. The study also highlights various challenges that need to be considered when working to combat theft. Analysis – By maintaining routines and conducting regular security work, better control and oversight can be achieved to prevent theft at construction sites. Challenges exist in selecting appropriate security measures, depending on the contracting company and the nature of the construction site. Among respondents, there are also differing opinions regarding the effectiveness of the security measures implemented at construction sites. However, the application of accurate documentation and resource management systems can enhance theft prevention efforts. Discussion – The study reveals clear similarities with previous research. There are several challenges in current security practices and measures aimed at preventing theft. Through improved security efforts and the further implementation of preventive measures, both social and economic sustainability at construction sites can be strengthened.
Commit-Based Feedback for BetterCoding Behaviour : Exploring Self-Regulation and Task Performance inSoftware Development
Commit-based feedback mechanisms provide developers with real-time analytics on commitfrequency, size, and timing, fostering consistent workflows, sustained engagement, and reduced“last-minute” coding sprees. This mixed-methods study evaluates the effects of such feedbackon engagement, self-regulation, and task completion among undergraduate iOS developers. We compared two cohorts 52 students in 2024 without feedback and 53 students in 2025 withGitPulse access during their final project phase using nonparametric analyses of commit data (totalcommits, meaningful commits, days spent, different days), a follow up survey , and semi-structured interviews. Although median increases in total commits 53 to 69 and meaningful commits 45 to 51achieved modest statistical support (U = 361.0, p = .08; U = 378.5, p = .12), all four behaviouralmetrics trended favorably. Within the 18 teams that actively used the dashboard, higher feedbackengagement correlated strongly with more frequent commits (ρ = .62, p = .005) and smaller commitsizes (ρ = −.53, p = .021). Survey and interview responses confirmed increased motivation, earliertask initiation, and finer-grained commit practices. Together, these findings indicate that structured,real-time commit feedback can scaffold self-regulated learning, enhance coding habits, and improveworkflow management, with implications for both academic instruction development practice
Exploring Volunteer Values in a Swedish Non-Profit Second-Hand Organization
The primary aim of the present study was to explore the values, motivations, experiences, and perceptions of individuals engaged in volunteering at a non-profit second-hand organization in Sweden. Additionally, the study examined whether the personal values of the volunteers aligned with those of the organization. A qualitative research design was adopted, using semi-structured interviews for data collection. A combination of convenience sampling and snowball sampling strategies was employed, resulting in a total of ten participants. The gender distribution included eight women and two men, with an age range of 28 to 74 years. An inductive thematic analysis was conducted to identify themes related to the aim of the study. The results revealed two main themes; each encompassing associated sub-themes: Working situation, recycling, the effects of family, religion, socializing and helping others. These themes provide valuable insights into the values that influence individuals' decisions to engage in volunteer work within such organizations
Next Generation Gate Sensors for Human Safety & Dynamic Operation
This thesis explores the implementation of millimeter-wavelength pulsed coherentradar in electronic gate systems to enhance safety and operational efficiency innoisy environments, such as retail stores. Current gate systems are predominantlybased on ultrasonic sensors, which are susceptible to environmental interference, leading to unreliable behavior and potential safety hazards. A radar-basedsolution was developed and tested that incorporates custom software for distancemeasurement, dynamic gate timing, and cross-traffic filtering. Experimentalresults demonstrate improved reliability in detecting human presence and intent, while also reducing unnecessary gate openings and ensuring safe operation. Thefindings suggest radar-based systems as a viable and superior alternative toconventional systems, with promising implications for broader applications inaccess control systems
