From support to independence! : A study on how primary school teachers perceive the use of scaffolding in students’ writing development.

    No full text
This study focuses on writing instruction in the early years of primary school, with particular emphasis on how scaffolding can be used to develop students’ writing skills. Previous research shows that many young learners experience writing as a challenge.  Teachers need more knowledge about how to concretely support students’ writing development through structured instructional strategies. The purpose of the study is to contribute to an understanding of how teachers in grades 1–3 use scaffolding in their writing instruction, and what perceptions they have of scaffolding. The study is based on the sociocultural theory of learning, with a focus on the zone of proximal development and the concept of scaffolding as supportive teaching. The study employs a qualitative approach, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six practicing primary school teachers. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. The empirical material consists of interviews with teachers from different schools, all with experience in teaching writing in the early years of schooling. The results show that the teachers use scaffolding on several levels, for example through modeling, shared writing, feedback and other visual support structures. The teachers emphasize the importance of adapting the support to students' individual needs and gradually reducing the support to promote independence. The findings suggest that scaffolding appears to be an important and versatile strategy in writing instruction. The teachers describe how a conscious use of scaffolding can contribute to students’ development as writers.

From Barbarians to builders : Realising cost synergies in DACH small to mid-cap private equity buy-and-build strategies

    No full text
Background: Private equity (PE) firms increasingly employ buy-and-build (B&B) strategies, particularly within fragmented industries in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Despite the growing prominence, academic literature remains limited regarding the realisation of cost synergies within small to mid-cap funds. Such funds typically operate with constrained resources and encounter unique integration challenges, necessitating tailored strategies and deeper theoretical understanding.  Purpose: This thesis investigates how small to mid-cap PE funds in the DACH region identify, prioritise, and realise cost synergies through B&B strategies. Specifically, it aims to bridge existing research gaps by examining practical synergy realisation challenges, integrating these findings with the dynamic capabilities framework.  Method: This study employs an exploratory qualitative interview-based study design that is guided by a relativist ontology and a social constructionist epistemology. Primary data collection was conducted through 10 semi-structured interviews with PE professionals from small to mid-cap funds in the DACH region, complemented by a pilot interview and analysis of secondary data to enhance credibility. Thematic analysis was applied to code and identify themes and interpret the data collected.  Conclusion: The findings suggest that the successful realisation of cost synergies in B&B strategies is influenced by dynamic capabilities. Sensing fragmented industries, strategically seizing acquisition opportunities, and actively transforming and integrating operational resources. The study contributes to the theoretical understanding of synergy realisation in resource-constrained environments and its relation to the dynamic capabilities framework and provides actionable insights for professionals in the DACH market executing B&B strategies.

    No full text
Background: The Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector in Sweden is under increasing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint, especially concerning packaging waste. While the country leads in sustainability efforts, gaps remain in effectively managing packaging waste through reverse logistics. Regulations such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) require companies to take full responsibility for their product lifecycle involving packaging and waste, yet many firms face financial, operational, and technological challenges in doing so. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to examine the capacity of the FMCG supply chain to enhance reverse logistics. In particular, handling packaging waste in Sweden's FMCG industry. Method: This thesis utilized a qualitative methodology within an interpretivist framework, employing a self-administered online questionnaire to collect data from 20 professionals working in Swedish FMCG companies. Thematic analysis was performed to identify key insights related to sustainability goals, regulatory compliance, technological integration, and operational challenges in reverse logistics. Conclusion: Results indicate that Swedish FMCG companies are integrating reverse logistics (RL) into their sustainability strategies by setting measurable goals, adhering to regulations, and forming partnerships throughout the supply chain. Digital technologies such as the Internet of Things and barcoding enhance waste tracking and RL efficiency, necessitating that companies assume full responsibility for their product lifecycle, including packaging and waste. However, many firms face financial, operational, and technological challenges in improving their RL. Despite obstacles like high costs and infrastructure gaps, companies are making progress by optimising RL processes, collaborating with stakeholders, and preparing for forthcoming regulatory and technological changes. These efforts significantly contribute to advancing Sweden's environmental protection goals and the circular economy

Canceled med stil: Gen Z och modeetik i Sverige

    No full text
Cancel culture is a growing force in the digital age, shaping brand perception and consumer behavior, especially among Generation Z. While Gen Z is often described as socially conscious, research suggests a gap between their stated ethics and actual purchasing behavior. This thesis investigates how Swedish Gen Z perceives cancel culture and how these perceptions influence their support or avoidance of fashion brands.  Grounded in Social Judgment Theory, the study examines how ethical values, cancel culture awareness, and social media engagement shape brand-related decisions. A quantitative survey of 377 Swedish Gen Z respondents was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and linear regression. Findings show that cancel culture awareness and ethical values significantly predict brand support or avoidance, with moderate correlations to social media engagement (r = 0.445) and ethical concern (r = 0.368). However, a consistent attitude–behavior gap emerged: while many expressed strong ethical views, decisions were often shaped by price, convenience, or brand loyalty. This suggests that silent disengagement or “silent cancellation” may often replace public boycotts. The study contributes to research on ethical consumption and digital activism by highlighting the consumer voice within a Swedish context. For fashion brands, the results underscore the need for transparency, accountability, and authentic alignment with Gen Z values to foster long-term trust.

    No full text
This study investigates how strategic leadership fosters digital organizational culture within Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). While digitalization has become essential for business survival, SMEs do face unique challenges in cultivating digital cultures due to resource constraints and entrenched traditions. Through an interpretivist, qualitative research approach utilizing 15 semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders across digitally mature construction industry SMEs in Sweden, this study develops an integrated framework explaining how leadership shapes digital culture evolution. The findings reveal three interconnected dimensions that collectively enable digital transformation: (1) strategic direction and disciplined change governance, balancing ambitious digital visions with pragmatic implementation; (2)visible leadership mobilization and distributed ownership, combining executive commitment with empowered champions across organizational levels; and (3) skill building and inclusive learning climate, pairing structured capability development with psychological safety. These dimensions function as a reinforcing cycle, where strategic vision provides purpose, leadership mobilization creates momentum, and capability building enables sustained implementation. This research addresses significant gaps in understanding the human dimensions of digital transformation in SMEs and offers practical guidance for leaders navigating cultural change in increasingly digital business environments. Limitations include the industry-specific focus and cross-sectional design, suggesting opportunities for future research across diverse sectors and using longitudinal approaches

Something's Brewing: Innovation, community and a cup of coffee : A mini-ethnographic case study

    No full text
Background:    Coworking spaces (CWS) have become key ecosystems for entrepreneurs, offering shared resources, flexibility, and social capital. While existing research highlights how members benefit from CWS, the role of managers remains underexplored. This study shifts focus to CWS managers as entrepreneurial orchestrators who not only facilitate but also leverage social capital for strategic purposes. We also address the lack of research on how ownership influences managerial strategy by focusing on GRO36, a privately owned CWS in Sweden. The study examines how managers shape, engage with, and benefit from the communities they build. Purpose:  This study explores how CWS managers utilize their environment as a platform for innovation by strategically interacting with their community and leveraging internal capabilities. The aim is to shift the academic focus from coworking members to the managers themselves, contributing to the limited literature on the managerial role in CWS. The study aspires to provide insights for scholars and practitioners in management, entrepreneurship, and coworking space operations. Method:   Given the limited literature on CWS, we adopted a qualitative, abductive approach, combining semi-structured interviews with ethnographic observations to gain deeper insights. A mini-ethnographic case study at GRO36 allowed us to capture both managerial perspectives and real-time interactions within the CWS. Thematic analysis according to Braun & Clarke (2006) was applied to identify key patterns, ensuring a systematic approach. Ethical considerations, including informed consent, confidentiality, and bias mitigation, were prioritized to uphold research integrity. Conclusion:  The results show that, drawing on theories of social capital, innovation, and entrepreneurial leadership, managers at GRO36 act as entrepreneurial orchestrators in sensing, seizing, and transforming opportunities in collaboration with members and the community. Our findings suggest that innovation is not a guaranteed outcome, but one shaped by leadership orientation and contextual dynamics. Further, the results show that the relationship between social capital and innovation is one to handle with caution, given that our findings suggest a potential trade-off between them: too much innovation might erode the CWS community

    No full text
This thesis explores how the Inner Development Goals (IDG) Foundation communicates inner development as a meaningful pathway to global transformation through digital media. Positioned within the field of sustainable communication, the research investigates how the Foundation constructs and performs its institutional identity across three platforms: its official website, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Drawing on Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical theory of the presentation of self, along with Persson’s (2019) digital extensions of this framework, the thesis analyzes how values such as empathy, self-awareness, and co-creation are framed as socially relevant and emotionally resonant. Using abductive thematic analysis, the study examines 15 strategically selected media items published between 2022 and 2025. The findings show how the Foundation adapts its tone, narrative, and visual strategies to different platform contexts while maintaining a coherent institutional ethos. The analysis highlights how digital communication serves not only as a vehicle for information, but as a performative space where legitimacy, trust, and identity are negotiated. By focusing on how inner development is made publicly meaningful, the thesis contributes to understanding how value-driven organizations use media to align personal growth with collective sustainability agendas.

Enabling Sustainability Through Consulting: A Dynamic Capabilities Perspective on Business Model Change : The Role of Sustainability Consulting Firms

    No full text
Sustainability has become a central concern for businesses, not only due to growing regulatory pressures but also because of shifting stakeholder expectations and long-term strategic relevance. While many organizations aim to implement sustainability into their business models, the complexity of doing so often requires external expertise. This has led to the rise of consulting firms that specialize in sustainability-related services, yet in academic literature little is known about how these firms actually help clients navigate sustainable transformation. Despite growing demand for sustainability consulting, academic research has largely overlooked how these firms operate in practice. In particular, there is a lack of understanding around how consultants support clients in transforming their business models and how such work can be conceptually understood using existing strategic frameworks. The purpose of this study is to explore how consulting firms support clients in integrating sustainability into their business models. By applying the dynamic capabilities framework, the study aims to interpret and better understand the specific roles, actions, and tools consultants use in sustainability-related transformation processes. The study adopts a qualitative, abductive research design. Empirical data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with consultants from sustainability-focused firms, complemented by publicly available archival material such as whitepapers, service descriptions, and regulatory frameworks. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis, structured around the three dimensions of the dynamic capabilities framework, as well as components of sustainable business models. The study shows that sustainability consultants play a key role in enabling business model transformation by acting as interpreters, strategists, and change facilitators. Their work can be understood through the dynamic capabilities lens: they sense emerging trends and regulations, seize opportunities by developing tailored tools and strategies, and support transformation through long-term engagement and capability building. The findings also highlight the emerging shape of the sustainability consulting industry and offer a foundation for future research in this underexplored area
