Nurses´experiences of caring for children with acute pain in inpatient care : A qualitative literature review
Main titel: Nurses´experiences of meeting children with acute pain in inpatient care. Background: Children have the ability to register pain and pain experiences, however pain interpretation may vary depending on the child´s previous experiences. Acute pain is common among children; however, it can be difficult to assess for the nurse because younger children find it difficult to express their pain. The nurse´s task then becomes highly complex when it comes to caring for children with acute pain. Aim: The aim was to describe nurses’ experiences of meeting children with acute pain in inpatient care. Method: A literature review was conducted based on 12 articles with qualitative design. The analysis was based on Friberg (2017) five analysis steps. Results: The analysis resulted in three themes; nurses´ experiences of pain assessment in children (To use the clinical view when assessing pain in children, nurses’ individual attitudes affects pain relief, The importance of parents 'role in pain assessment of children), Nurses’ experiences of involving parents (Parents´ role for a calm and safely child, The importance of distraction when reducing the child´s pain) and Nurses’ experiences of the organization (Knowledge gaps for nurses regarding pain management, Insufficient resources for adequate pain management of children, Lacking of cooperation between nurses and doctors). Conclusion: The literature review shows that nurses´ have experiences of difficulties when it comes to meeting children with acute pain within inpatient care. It was important that the nurses trust in their own intuition and takes help by the children´s parents. Obstacles that shows are that nurses have different individual attitudes that shows in their assessments, and knowledge gaps exist regarding pain management in children. Therefor there is an increased need for knowledge and guidelines.
Racism – a social problem or individual event? : A qualitative content analysis of Swedish and Spanish media in their reporting of racism in football
World football has a long history of racism and has been used as a weapon by supporters to harass the opponents. This study analyzes and compares how some of the largest Swedish and Spanish media outlets choose to report on racist incidents that have occurred in Swedish and Spanish football. Previous research examines both American sports and why racism exists in European football. The empirical material of the study consists of 5 news articles and one column for each country, published in two of the largest media outlets in each country. Through a qualitative content analysis, the study highlights significant differences between how the selected Spanish and Swedish media outlets portrays the racism incident and the agendas they set. The results show that the selected Swedish media outlets portray racism as a social problem, emphasizing emotional aspects and solidarity from other actors. The selected Spanish media outlets set a different agenda, where racism is seen as an isolated incident and is consistently downplayed in media reporting
From Verses to Reality: The view of women and values in hip-hop
Hip-hop is a global culture and music style with a strong social and cultural function. This study aims to examine the norms and representations of women presented in hip- hop lyrics, as well as how violence and objectification of women are portrayed. Through a thematic analysis of 24 songs from six of the most-streamed hip-hop artists, two main themes were identified: the perception of women and the power play of men, with a total of seven subthemes. The subthemes examined include objectification, sexualization, stereotypes, power imbalance in relationships, women’s sexuality as power and control, manipulation and psychological abuse, and devaluation. The results show that hip-hop songs often objectify women and depict power structures between women and men. Hegemonic masculinity is equated with the masculine ideal. Previous studies have shown that prolonged exposure to hip-hop songs with violence and sexually explicit content directed at women can contribute to the normalization of negative attitudes among men towards women. At the same time, the hip-hop genre has the potential to build community and identity formation among young people. Therefore, hip-hop can play an important role in helping young people create a sense of belonging, which can serve as a tool to counter and challenge destructive norms

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) is a chronic and progressive condition with an increasing prevalence worldwide. Self-care is essential in the management of Diabetes mellitus, with the aim of preventing complications and promoting health. Self-care includes blood glucose monitoring, medication management, and lifestyle changes such as diet and physical activity. Nurses play a critical role in supporting, motivating and educating patients, while also promoting patient autonomy in managing self-care. Aim: The aim of this literature review was to describe patients’ experiences of self-care with Diabetes mellitus type 2. Method: A literature review with a qualitative and inductive approach. Systematic research was performed in the databases CINAHL and PubMed, resulting in 14 articles. The data were analyzed using Friberg’s five-step model (2022a). Results: The findings were presented in two main themes: Challenges and Enabling aspects of daily life, each with their respective subthemes. Subthemes within the first theme included Everyday limitations, Difficulties with dietary adjustments, and Lack of support from healthcare professionals. The second theme highlighted the subthemes Support as a motivating factor and Lifestyle changes improved quality of life. Conclusion: The literature review highlights several aspects affecting self-care in type 2 diabetes, where various barriers and limitations hindered compliance, while support and lifestyle changes improved patients' quality of life. This knowledge can support nurses in enhancing self-care practices and in promoting both health and quality of life among patients living with DMT2.
Applying and Evaluating Automated Testing for Triple-Ended Systems
The increasing complexity of Internet of Things ecosystems, especially in triple-ended systems (systems involving a backend, frontend, and a third end such as Bluetooth), calls for efficient and scalable automated testing approaches. This thesis investigates the application of the Patrol testing framework for Flutter crossplatform mobile applications to automate functional and integration tests in such systems, with a focus on Bluetooth-driven Firmware Over-the-Air updates. The research evaluates Patrol’s effectiveness in automating regression tests, reducing manual effort, and enhancing test reliability across interconnected components. Key findings include the successful automation of 70% of Thule’s regression test suite, significant time savings, and improved validation consistency. The study also provides practical insights into applying test automation in real-world industrial environments and discusses limitations related to hardware interactions and external dependencies. The results contribute to more efficient testing practices for cross-platform and IoT applications, offering a foundation for further research in automated testing of interconnected systems
Red Dead Representation : A narrative and multimodal critical discourse analysis of Native American representation in the video game Red Dead Redemption 2
This study examines the representation of Native Americans in the video game Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) and evaluates it through the lens of representation theory and the theory of othering. The research is designed as a qualitative case study focusing on selected story scenes from RDR2, specifically key moments involving the Wapiti tribe and the characters Rains Fall and Eagle Flies, in order to examine how Native American representation is constructed, using multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA) in combination with narrative analysis. The analysis encompasses the game’s dialogue, story, visual imagery, and audio design to identify what discourses and stereotypes are present and whether the game reinforces or challenges colonial tropes. The results indicate an ambivalent portrayal. On one hand, the game makers have made efforts to portray native American characters with respect and to envoke empathy – for example by condemning racism and providing the indigenous characters with dignity in the narrative. On the other hand, RDR2 does not entirely escape conventional storytelling patterns: the Native American characters remain supporting figures in a story centered on a white protagonist, and subtler forms of stereotyping (such as the “noble savage” trope and a white savior narrative structure) emerge. The study contributes a deeper understanding of how a popular video game balances progressive intentions with traditional genre tropes in its representation of a marginalized group, highlighting the complexities and challenges of diversity in interactive media
The didactic use of the picture book : A literature study on how picture books can support and engage pupils in reading and writing education in preschool through third grade
Optimisation of visual and beyond-visual light effects : A simulation-based process exploring workflows, metrics, and evaluation criteria
This thesis explores the integration of visual and beyond-visual light effects in an optimisation process to balance human well-being with other building performance aspects. It examines the challenges and opportunities of incorporating beyond-vision effects into performance metrics, simulation workflows, and evaluation criteria. Through a scoping review, five optimisation levels (M1-M5) are presented, highlighting their approaches to handling conflicting design criteria. Key findings show that the M5: multi-objective optimisation (MOO) level offers a structured framework to explore multiple design variables and criteria simultaneously, helping identify conflicts and trade-offs, and leading to Pareto-optimal solutions. However, there is a lack of studies that integrate beyond-vision effects with other building performance and human well-being aspects in the MOO process. To address this gap, a simulation-based optimisation process was developed, demonstrating the conceptual integration of the evaluation criteria and the methodological integration of luminous and temporal light factors. This process unfolds in three stages to meet integrative lighting needs while also assessing energy consumption. The paper found that including beyond-vision effects in the evaluation process of multiple criteria introduces significant complexity, not because of individual factors but due to the interplay between luminous and temporal aspects. This underscored the importance of lighting design that integrates these factors to balance visual and beyond-vision outcomes by ensuring the appropriate daylight and electric lighting levels, spectrum, and directionality at the right time of day. The research contributes to understanding the complexity of beyond-vision effects trade-offs between short-term performance and long-term health, and the integration of advanced optimisation techniques. Moving forward, a shift toward systematic, staged, dynamic, and simultaneous optimisation processes will be necessary to create truly optimised, human-centred lighting environments.
Using Progress Visualization to Encourage Open-Mindedness in Politically Polarized News
Political polarization is increasingly driven by selective exposure and confirmation bias in news consumption. To address this, progress visualizations as graphical tools displaying users’ engagement with diverse viewpoints have been proposed as a way to foster open-mindedness. However, empirical evidence for their effectiveness remains scarce. This study investigates whether and how such visualizations affect users’ openness to opposing political perspectives. In a between-subjects online experiment using a mock news platform, participants (N = 84) selected articles on a self-chosen, politically polarized topic. They were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: no visualization (control), a bias feedback visualization, or a gamified growth-based visualization. Two research questions guided the analysis: (1) Do visualizations increase the openness to belief-opposing content? (2) Does visualization type influence this effect? Contrary to expectations based on further visualization research and theories, no significant differences were found across groups in participants’ engagement with opposing views. These null results suggest that the visual feedback formats used here may not be sufficient to counteract cognitive-motivational barriers like defensiveness or selective attention. Moreover, possible cognitive load introduced by visual feedback may have impeded deeper processing. Methodological constraints such as short exposure time to the visualizations, limited realism of the platform, an already open-minded participant sample, and statistical power likely contributed to inconclusive findings. Further research should refine visualization design, incorporate longer-term interventions, and consider individual differences in ideological commitment or cognitive style
Analyzing Without Knowing It : A Qualitative Interview Study on Upper Secondary Students´ Understanding of Analytical Ability in Social Studies
The purpose of this study is to contribute with a student perspective on analytical ability in social studies, as well as their experiences of teaching related to this skill. Previous research has primarily focused on student performance rather than students’ accounts. Accordingly, this study aims to offer valuable insights to consider in the development of students’ analytical ability and social studies education. The study adopts an inductive approach and is based on qualitative, semi-structured group interviews with 24 upper secondary students in year two of the social science program. The empirical material has been thematically analyzed and interpreted based on variation theory and previous research. The results show that all participants’ understanding of analytical ability is characterized by conceptual uncertainty, often leading to confusion with other skills. At the same time, many students have developed an implicit practical understanding of analysis through repeated practice in class—something they are often unaware of when performing it. Additionally, the results indicate a fact-focused teaching approach, with little explicit instruction on the concept of analysis
