    No full text

Pressured to fit in : The will of young adults towards non-alcoholic beverages - based on Bourdieu's forms of capital

    No full text
This study investigates what young adults think about non-alcoholic beverages in today's society and what may underlie their opinions. To find out what the young adults think, the qualitative method of a semi-structured interview has been used to understand their opinions on a deeper level. Furthermore, the interviews were analyzed through a thematic analysis to understand and find common denominators between the respondents. The results show that young adults are strongly influenced by peer pressure; which is created through shame, norms and alcoholism, and the desire to give non-alcoholic beverages a value; which is evident through conscious drinking habits and the value of non-alcoholic beverages. The results are discussed through Bourdieu's forms of capital to show how themes are permeated by the forms of capital, how exchanges occur between the forms of capital, how the symbolic value shifts, and how we can promote non-alcoholic beverages. For future research, it is possible to take part in the discussion that shows how we can increase the value of non-alcoholic beverages, in order to promote healthier consumption

Examining fear of crime, trust in the police and collective efficacy

    No full text
The purpose of the current study was to research if there was a correlation between fear of crime, trust in the police and collective efficacy in the city of Örebro. A quantitative method was used to answer the research question “Is perceived fear of crime associated with trust in the police, with collective efficacy acting as a mediator?”. Using longitudinal data from the Swedish police a total of 3997 observations were used for the statistical analysis. Three separate logistic regressions were used to determine the mediating effect of collective efficacy. The results showed no mediating effect. In addition to this, the analysis showed that fear of crime was significantly associated with both a lower collective efficacy and a lower trust in the police. Drawing upon these findings, the study concludes that the mediating effect of collective efficacy was non significant. This could be due to a flawed measurement or contradictory to previous research, collective efficacy does not mediate the relationship between fear of crime and trust in the police. The other findings were in line with previous research stating that fear of crime has an effect on collective efficacy and trust in the police. En kvantitativ metod användes för att besvara frågeställningen “Is perceived fear of crime associated with trust in the police, with collective efficacy acting as a mediator?”.

Enhancing domestic violence risk assessments with children's perspectives : Exploring risk, vulnerability and protective factors through forensic interviews

    No full text
Effective risk management strategies for victims of domestic violence require an adequate risk assessment. While risk assessments for domestic violence typically focus on the adult victim, the risk of children who are exposed to such violence is often overlooked. This study aims to explore what risk, vulnerability and protective factors can be identified through forensic interviews with children exposed to domestic violence. A qualitative latent content analysis was conducted on documented forensic interviews with 41 children. The results show that children reported factors that should be taken into consideration when managing the risk of violence for their mother. In addition, the children's responses suggest the need for a separate risk management plan to address their needs and to protect them from re-victimization. Direct communication with children is crucial to identify factors that are unique to them. These results emphasize the significance of including their perspective in risk assessments for domestic violence to influence the risk management that includes both mothers and their children.RISKSA

Austerity through rescaling and layering in the Swedish welfare state

    No full text
It is often claimed that Nordic welfare states are characterized by universalism – however, such claims ignore the persistent duality of social service provision in these states between the central state and municipalities, the lowest political-administrative level. This paper investigates the Swedish welfare state, by looking at the rescaling of welfare services from national to municipal level and its (negative) effects on both municipalities and service users. The aim is to expand the understanding of austerity measures and their local impact by analyzing the transformation processes of responsibilities between national and municipal institutions in the Swedish welfare system based on rescaling and policy layering. Two cases of rescaling are analyzed through public reports and statistics: transfer from national sickness insurance to municipal social assistance, and personal assistance for people with disabilities. The two cases illustrate the vulnerability of Swedish municipalities, in cases of national austerity measures, as the municipalities have the ‘ultimate responsibility’ for marginalized groups such as unemployed people and people with disabilities. Given the differences between municipalities, in terms of factors such as size and economic situation, and the extensive discretion of municipalities in determining services, rescaling to municipalities increases inequalities between people living in Sweden based on municipal residence
