Media use, identity and integration : focus on Syrian nationals in Oslo

    Get PDF
This research assesses the pattern of media use of Syrian nationals in their daily lives and the issues of construction of their identity and integration through their media choices. The theoretical framework for the research is based on notions of cultural identity and diasporic communication. An in-depth semi-structured face-to-face interview model is used to explore the experiences of the informants of this research. The sample of the study is mainly the immigrants and refugees from Syria who migrated to Norway significantly after 2011. Snowball or chain-referral sampling method is used to access the informants. The fieldwork was conducted in Oslo between February and May 2019. The research exhibits the on-going process of constructing identities of Syrian people in the multinational environment of Oslo. It explores their diasporic, hybrid and invisible identities caused by political, cultural and religious differences in the host society. The silence of media in acute need and the exaggeration of news contents in sensitive stories are frustrating to them. So they prefer social media like Facebook, YouTube, blogs, and WhatsApp as the significant sources of news and communications. They extensively use the internet and social media for self-expression and self-representation. Most of the informants have come to the point of negating the news hearing of Syria due to the repetition of similar kinds of stories and often fake accounts

Data to estimate costs of producing grass-clover silages

    Get PDF
This article presents input data and procedures used to estimate costs of producing grass-clover silages under Norwegian farming conditions. Data of yield, botanical composition and forage quality of the grass crop were derived from a field experiment comparing a three-cut system, harvested at early crop maturity stages producing highly digestible forages, and a two-cut system returning higher herbage yields of medium digestibility. Secondary data on prices of specific inputs were also provided. The data presented here can be used by advisors and farmers as a decision support tool for assessing and comparing costs of different ways of producing silage. Cost estimates of home-grown forages are also needed in bioeconomic evaluations of grassland production and utilization by researchers. The data presented is related to the research article entitled: “Technical and economic performance of alternative feeds in dairy and pig production” [1].publishedVersio

    Get PDF
English: This master thesis investigates the daily work and routines of Norwegian cross-media journalists working for the local affiliate of the Norwegian Public Broadcasting Corporation in Kristiansand, Norway. The purpose of the master thesis seeks to investigate the journalist role at the Norwegian Public Broadcasting Corporation. The study seeks to investigate how the on-going changes in the role of the journalist affect the editorial work. The problem statement of the study queries how former video journalists experience their present role as cross-media journalists as they are challenged by society, technology and cross-media journalism. The master thesis applies Bourdieu's theory of fields as a theoretical framework. The thesis applies qualitative interviews and field observation to collect the empirical data. This study can be concluded by stating that the journalists' role perceptions of quality journalism for the Internet has changed since the introduction of NRKs Digital media project of 2018. Meanwhile time pressure and working with sources demand more time than before, and affects journalism for the cross-media journalists in NRK
