Training for life skills and supporting students with developmental disabilities
publisherIn this paper, from a case study, I show that students with developmental disabilities have difficulties with regard to scholastic and employment success due to lack of self-understanding, lack of self-management skills and lack of interpersonal skills. Life skills are necessary for stable scholastic performance and employment, and are the foundation that supports the independent life after graduation. Moreover, the lack of life skills is seen regardless of the presence or absence of a disability. Therefore, I argue that at College of Technology, we must think about how to nurture life skills for all students as a part of career education, and provide support for training for students with a shortage life skill.departmental bulletin pape
Light curve analysis of eclipsing binary stars using PHOEBE
publisherClose binary stars are important sources of astronomical information. Photometric data can be acquired from these stars using a small-aperture telescope, and the period, radius ratio, and ratio of the luminous intensities of the component stars can be derived from the light curve. To extract the physical quantities from the light curve, we use the analysis software PHOEBE (Physics of Eclipsing Binaries), which implements the Wilson-Devinney code. Some theoretical knowledge of eclipsing binary stars is necessary to properly apply PHOEBE. In this article, we summarize the fundamental theory of eclipsing binary system, especially the Roche model, and introduce an analysis of HW Vir using PHOEBE as a practice for light curve analysis.departmental bulletin pape
Measurement method for electrical and electronic circuits in the Experiments and Practice I class in electrical and electronic system engineering
publisherWe propose an experiment method for electrical and electronic circuits in the Experiments and Practice I class in Electrical and Electronic System Engineering. To stimulate students interest in electrical and electronic circuits, we make actual machines. In this class, electronic circuits, constructed with electronic parts such as light emitting diodes (LED), transistors, resistors, capacitors and others, are fabricated on the breadboard. The students learn the basic electrical and electronic circuits by measuring the fabricated electronic circuits. We found from the lesson questionnaire that the students perform the experiments seriously and the students have an interest in the electrical and electronic circuits.departmental bulletin pape
Design method of electrical and electronic circuits by experiment of electronic and computer systems
publisherThis paper describes the lesson method of the electrical and electronic circuits by experiment of electronic and computer systems. The electronic circuits using the electronic parts such as the light emitting diodes (LED), transistors, resistors, capacitors and others were designed by students in this experiment. A visiting lecture using the designed electronic circuits for schoolchildren was performed. Students who get interested in an electronic circuit are increased by performing this lecture. The author found from the results of the lesson questionnaire that the students can have an interest in this experimental field.departmental bulletin pape
Mathematics and chemistry interdisciplinary joint research and the Fukui Project XXII
publisherThis is the 22nd part of the series of articles that records and further develops essentials of the Mathematics and Chemistry Interdisciplinary Symposium 2013 Tsuyama, whose main themes were symmetry, periodicity, and repetition. The symposium was held on April 5th and 6th in Tsuyama city, Okayama, Japan, in conjunction with the Fukui Project and was devoted to the memory of the late Professor Kenichi Fukui (1981 Nobel Prize) who initiated the project. The present series also provides challenging cross-disciplinary problems which are directly related to the Fukui conjecture and to recent carbon nanotube research. Some of these problems are formulated using mathematical language not well known among chemists despite the importance of these notions in elucidating additivity and high-speed asymptotic phenomena in molecules having many repeating identical moieties. Some problems are formulated in terms of Fourier analysis connected to the theory of analytic curves, others are formulated in connection with the Science-Art Multi-angle Network (SAM Network) Project, which seeks to bridge Science and Art (visual, audial, and conceptual) for a creative collaboration, and is an important part of the Fukui Project.departmental bulletin pape
Seasonal changes of reproductive modes in freshwater planarians in the river of the north part of Okayama prefecture
publisherSome freshwater planarians, especially in the genus Dugesia, comprise of at least three races with respect to the reproductive mode: asexual race, sexual race, and physiological race. In the asexual race, worms reproduce by fission without sexual organs. In the sexual race, worms have hermaphroditic sexual organs, and copulate and then produce cocoons filled with several fertilized eggs. They are not likely to fission. In the physiological race, worms convert between asexual and sexual reproduction seasonally. In this study, we demonstrated that the physiological race of the planarian Dugesia japonica exist in the river of the north part of Okayama prefecture in Japan.departmental bulletin pape
