Reduction of Exhaust Pollutants from a Diesel Engine by Water Injection into the Exhaust Flow and Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
publisherIn order to reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulates from diesel engines, exhaust gas recirculation, EGR, combined with water injection into the exhaust is proposed and has been evaluated using a pre-camber engine. In this method, exhaust gas in which particulates were separated by water injection is fed into the intake air charge. The results show that exhaust black smoke is decreased remarkably by injecting water into the exhaust strearn, and it is expected that a greater black smoke reduction might be attained with less amount of water with finer atomization and better distribution. In the case of the combination of water injection and EGR, simultaneous reduction of NO and black smoke can be achieved at low load condition. At higher load, however, black smoke deteriorates with increasing the amount of recirculated gas due to the decreasing of oxygen concentration in the intake gas, so that EGR rate should be kept at low level for the purification of diesel exhaust.departmental bulletin pape

Application of Compact Pneumatic System for Robot Contest
publisherA drive system of robot must be lightweight and compact in robot contest of national college. We think that it is useful to use pneumatic system as a drive mechanism of the robot. Because a pneumatic system has a large ratio between generated force and weight. A peripheral device that needs to drive preumatic actuator is more compact than hydraulic systems.
This paper describe to apply pneumatic drive system for the robot which has limits of size and weight. The robot consists of pneumatic cylinders, compressors, valves and tanks. In order to execute some subject of robot competition, we tested 3 stage pneumatic cylinders which have a long stroke of 1.8 m for lifting robot's body. And, we designed compact peripheral device which can drive tested pneumatic actuator. As the results of develepment and experiments, we can realize the robot which can be driven by lightweight pneumatic system. Posture Control of a Mechanically Unstable Robot -Simulation with Computational Mechanics Program and Control Experiment-
publisherStudies on transportation with moving robot have been performed in recent year. In case of high stature robot, it is feared to fall down when the robot accepts the object. Therefore, the unstable robot has to maintain its posture by control. For the study of posture control, we take up the inverted pendulum robot as the representative unstable robot. The robot consists of an inverted pendulum type body and two coaxial parallel wheels. This paper describes the controllability of the experimental robot manufactured for the study and new simulation method with computational mechanics program. The posture of the experimental robot is regulated by the state feedback control. And it is evident that the presented simulation method can deal with the slip between the wheel and floor.
