Extraction and Recognition of Traffic Signs Using Information of Color and Edge
Get PDFpublisherIn this paper, we propose a method for recognition of traffic signs in color road scene images. Traffic signs visually give information about road condition to vehicle drivers. However, the drivers must always recognize driving environments and control their cars. These will become burdens on drivers and will give rise to overlook signs. If automatic road sign recognition is realized, their burdens will be reduced. Therefore, an automatic detection and recognition of traffic signs are very important in Intelligent Transport Systems(ITS). Many studies on detection of traffic signs have been reported. However, most of these are studied with restricted road environment and experimental images, and there are some problems in these studies. This proposed method is used with color distributed functions, edge line extraction, Fourier series expansion, pattern recognition and etc.. Reformation of Graphite Surface through Plasma Treatment
Get PDFpublisherVarious kinds of surface compounds exist on prism planes of natural graphite. It is found in this investigation that the total surface area measured by N2 adsorption at LN2 temperature increases through the plasma treatment, though the prism surface area calculated from the amount of oxygen-containing gases evolved on pyrolysis decreases slightly. This demonstrates that the plasma treatment promotes the cleavage of the graphite crystal along (0001) plane. As can be expected, the plasma treatment also changes the composition of the surface compounds: the difference in contents of all gas species except CH4 between 0 min and 30 min for treating time is larger than that between 30 min and 90 min. It is very interesting, moreover, that the content of every gas except H2 changes linearly according to the length of treating time; there is an increase for CH4-content, while there is a decrease for CO-and H2O-content. The H2-content also becomes smaller when the treating time becomes longer. The CO2-content remains unchanged by the length of the treating time. It seems that some correlation among these contents exists.departmental bulletin pape

レゴマインドストームとブレッドボードを組み合わせたメカトロニクス教材と創造演習教育
Get PDFメカトロニクスは機械工学や電気工学，情報工学など多岐の分野にまたがる複合的技術であり，従来からメカトロニクスを初心者にどのように教えるべきかという検討が行われてきた1)。また，欧米の追従の時代は終わり，新しい時代を切り開いていく創造力豊かな人材を育成する教育が求められており，近年は高等教育機関においても，もの作り教育や創造性教育などのいわゆる自発的課題学習が授業に取り入れられるようになった。このような背景において，著者は，津山高専機械工学科の学生に対してメカトロニクス関係の教育に携わっており，効果的な教育手法についても検討してきた2)。その中で，レゴマインドストーム3)のコントローラの部分をブレッドボード（試作回路基板）で置き換え，これに学生がセンサやトランジスタ回路を組み込むことで作動するライントレースロボット教材を開発した。このロボット教材を津山高専機械工学科第３学年の自発的課題学習科目である“機械創造演習Ⅱ”に平成１４年度より取り入れた。以来，本年度で３年目となり，当初試行錯誤であった教育方法もほぼ確立してきたので，本報では考案したロボット教材や授業の内容について報告する。othe
来るべき独立法人化へ向けて－－中華人民共和国における大学法人化の実態
Get PDFpublisher2004年度からの独立法人化を目前にして高専も戸惑いを隠せないが，参考として，すでに教育機関の独立採算制が実施されて久しい隣国中国の大学経営の状況を紹介したい．かの国の大学では，校弁企業等の独立採算制実施以前には不可欠だった各種方策により大学の収益性が増し，研究費等も潤沢になったという．それは理科系の学部に限らず，文科系の大学でも同様である．たとえば筆者が滞在した上海外語大学でも，出版，ホテル経営，留学生の受け入れ，社会人クラスの設置等に力を入れ，大学の収入は大きく増加，そしてそれは直接，大学の運営費，研究費，教職員の給与の増加に結びついている．我々も来るべき独立法人化を後ろ向きに捉えるのではなく，学校自身の裁量による学校経営のチャンスが訪れたと考え積極的に取り組むべきである．departmental bulletin pape

銀天街アーケイド上に太陽光発電装置を設置し自然エネルギーを有効に利用する考察
Get PDF銀天街商店街では、照明、街路灯に年間約４万［KWh］弱の電力を消費しています。この電力をすべて太陽光発電でまかなうことが出来れば、一年間で石油削減量約一万リットル、二酸化炭素削減量７４００［Kg－C／年］、森林面積換算では、実に約８０,
０００［㎡］となる事がわかりました。
このことから、商店街のアーケイド上に太陽光発電装置を設置し、自然エネルギーを有効利用出来れば、多くの市民に環境問題を広くアピールし、二酸化炭素の削減に寄与出来ることとなります。
又、商店街照明の昼間の電気使用量が全使用電力の９０％と夜間より多く、太陽光発電装置はその性質上夜間は発電しないので、発生電力はより有効に使用されます。othe
