othe
Estimation of the earth’s radius by measuring depressive angle of the horizon
publisherEstimating the earth’s radius from depressive angle of the horizon is not thought to be effective because of refraction in the atmosphere. Actuary a measured depressive angle of horizon in our field work at Mt. Daisen is much smaller than a geometrically estimated value. However, after calculating angle shift by refraction in the atmosphere, observed depressive angle can be corrected with an error of 0.01degree which gives an accuracy of a few percent to the earth’s radius.departmental bulletin pape
On an estimate of the Kloosterman zeta function
publisherIn this paper we state an estimate of the Kloosterman zeta function Zm,n(s, Γ). Especially we consider the case that Γ is the Hecke congruence group Γ0(N). This case allows us to use the Weil estimate for the Kloosterman sum. From this we can derive an estimate for a certain Dirichlet series consisting of absolute values of Kloosterman sums. Moreover we state two estimates for the K-Bessel function K0(y). By virtue of these estimates we can obtain an improvement for the order ofmandn.departmental bulletin pape
Analog circuit based on information processing of the biological system for studyingthe basic electronic circuit design
publisherWe proposed in this study the analog complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) circuit based on the information processing of the biological system for studying the basic electronic circuit design. The structure of the circuit is simple. The circuit is constructed with the integrator, the circuit for threshold processing, and the reset circuit. The circuit is evaluated by a student of the Nishio's laboratory. It was clarified from the simulation results of the simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) that the output voltage of the proposed circuit is corresponding to the output signal of the biological model. By using the proposed circuit, it is possible to study the basic biological model and the basic electronic circuit design.departmental bulletin pape
Winning Ways for an Anomalous Tic-tac-toe Which is Called Lite3
publisherLite3 is an anomalous game of tic-tac-toe. Lite3 has a special rule that the earliest piece will be taken away after each player places his own 3 pieces. So, over seven pieces will never be placed on the game board. We report in this paper that Lite3 has some winning ways for the first move under the premise that each player can recall the process of playing game completely. And we also report a feature of those winning ways. In the future, by using our fruits in this paper, we want to find another winning ways under the realistic premise that the player will forget the process of the game.departmental bulletin pape
A Study on a Non-Contact Adhesive Mechanism for UnderwaterWall-mobile Robot
publisherThe investigation described in this paper was undertaken to clarify the feasibility of a non-contact adhesive mechanism for underwater wall-mobile robot. This non-contact adhesive mechanism consists of a vortex cup with tangential nozzle and a wall. Water flows into the vortex cup through the tangential nozzle, and swirling flow occurs inside the cup to create a vacuum pressure at the central area of cup. This vacuum pressure causes the adhesive force. And non-contact adhesion is realized, because the water is delivered to the surrounding through a gap between the cup and wall. In this paper, the author clarifies that the non-contact adhesive mechanism can be applied to the underwater wall-mobile robot. And the author also discusses the relationship between the adhesive force and the gapdepartmental bulletin pape
Influence of repetition of high-temperature treatment of H2O2-treated graphite on adsorption of N2
publisherSri Lankan natural graphite previously oxidized in H2O2 aq.soln. was heated under a current of 1 atm N2 at 1273K repeatedly, and was measured volumetrically for its adsorption isotherm of N2 at 77K after each heat treatment. It was found that every isotherm was of TypeII with a distinct step around a relative pressure of 0.3, and that the oftener the graphite was subjected to the heat treatment, the less the amount of N2 adsorbed grew, and the more remarkable such a step became as well. The mesopore size distribution with Cranston-Inkley method showed that such repetition made the pores shallower. In the extreme case of the 6th treatment, the pores with radii between 1.7-2.0nm were almost removed, to be roughly divided into two kinds: smaller ones with a peak radius of 1.21nm and larger ones with that of 2.38nm. And besides, the t-plots for the samples demonstrated that the percentage of micropores in the surface grew larger through the repetitive heat treatment at 1273K.departmental bulletin pape
Development of Functional Components Implemented in Cowl of Mileage Competition Vehicle
publisherTo reduce the aerodynamic drag and the rolling resistance working on a mileage competition vehicle, functional components having a simple aerodynamic effect are installed in rear section of vehicle cowl, in single and multiple. In this paper, effects of those devices are investigated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Diffuser, Vortex Generator (VG), Flap and Gentle Slope of Rear Section (GS) are chosen as a basic component. First of all, it is confirmed that each simple component affects the drag force and the lift force at the running condition of mileage competition. Diffuser, VG and GS shows an effect of reduction in the aerodynamic drag. Flap and GS generates the lift force, meanwhile, Diffuser shows a generation of down force. In the light of the reduction of the rolling resistance, generation of the lift force having a decreasing effect of vertical force is desirable. To complement and foster the each effect, some combined devices are proposed in this study. Type NDC consisting of Diffuser and GS aims to foster a decreasing effect of the aerodynamic drag. Another one, Type NCF5 consisting of GS and Flap aims to foster the lift force leading to a decreasing effect of the rolling resistance. As a result of CFD, Type NDC and NCF5 show the theoretical mileage improvement of 30 and 10 km/l respectively. These effects are smaller than that brought by improvements of the other items. However, development expense of producing functional components is inexpensivedepartmental bulletin pape
