Mathematics and Chemistry Interdisciplinary Joint Research and the Fukui Project XIII
publisherThis is the 13th part of the series of articles that records and further develops essentials of the Mathematics and Chemistry Interdisciplinary Symposium 2013 Tsuyama, whose main themes were symmetry, periodicity, and repetition. The symposium was held on April 5th and 6th in Tsuyama city, Okayama, Japan, in conjunction with the Fukui Project and was devoted to the memory of the late Professor Kenichi Fukui (1981 Nobel Prize) who initiated the project. The present series also provides challenging cross-disciplinary problems which are directly related to the Fukui conjecture and to recent carbon nanotube research. Some of these problems are formulated using mathematical language of unique factorization domains (UFD) and related notions, which are not well known among chemists despite the importance of these notions in elucidating additivity and high-speed asymptotic phenomena in molecules having many repeating identical moieties. Some problems are formulated in terms of Fourier analysis connected to the theory of analytic curves, other problems are formulated in connection with the Science-Art Multi-angle Network (SAM Network) Project, which seeks to bridge Science and Art (visual, audible, and conceptual art) for a creative collaboration, and is an important part of the Fukui Project.departmental bulletin pape
Hydrolysis of Cellulose by a Mesoporous Carbon-Fe(2)(SO(4))(3)/γ-Fe(2)O(3) Nanoparticle-Based Solid Acid Catalyst
Carbon-based solid acid catalysts have shown significant potential in a wide range of applications, and they have been successfully synthesized using simple processes. Magnetically separable mesoporous carbon composites also have enormous potential, especially in separation and adsorption technology. However, existing techniques have been unable to produce a magnetically separable mesoporous solid acid catalyst because no suitable precursors have been identified. Herein we describe a magnetically separable, mesoporous solid acid catalyst synthesized from a newly developed mesoporous carbon-γ-Fe(2)O(3) nanoparticle composite. This material exhibits an equivalent acid density and catalytic activity in the hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose, to that of the cellulose-derived conventional catalyst. Since it is magnetically separable, this material can be readily recovered and reused, potentially reducing the environmental impact of industrial processes to which it is applied.journal articl

International exchange activities between Tsuyama College and Dalian Neusoft Institute - Exchange activities in fiscal 2014-
publisherIn the last few years, the international exchange activities in our school are extremely rich and colorful. One of the activities is between Tsuyama College and Dalian Neusoft Institute since 2008 and began the formal exchange activities in 2009. This paper focus on the 2014 exchange activities. Before that, most of the activities were mainly about academic conference about research of each other. In 2014, we tried two new ways of communicating. First of all, we invited the professor of Dalian Neusoft Institute give the English lecture to our students, and our students also tried new type English teaching methods. Secondly, the situation that four Chinese students came to our school to study for a period of two weeks is different from the past. In the meantime, it is very meaningful that the Chinese students carried out the depth of communication with our students. And we also brought six our students to visit the Dalian Neusoft Institute. Career Formation Support for Female Students and Promotion of Gender Equality
publisher本稿では,津山高専女子会を中心とした,女子学生支援(修学環境の整備とキャリア支援),広報活動(女子学生の比率向上に向けた取り組み),男女共同参画の推進(組織の見直しと女性教員の比率向上に向けた取り組み)について報告する。修学環境については,全学生が快適に修学できる環境を整備することが,女子学生にも効果的であり,キャリア支援は,通常のキャリア教育に加え,ライフイベントと関連づけて将来を考える機会をつくることが必要である。女子学生の比率向上に関しては,在学生がより一層力を発揮できる環境をつくることが重要であり,その活動を外部に発信していくことが,女子小中学生やその保護者へのアピールになるものと思われる。そして,いかに学校として男女共同参画を推進し,教職員や学生の意識を高めていくかが今後の課題である。また,女性教員の比率向上については,非常勤講師として若手女性を育てるという取り組みも有効である。departmental bulletin pape
Pumping Characteristics of a Double Acting Valve-less Pump and Performance Design Method
publisherThe study described in this paper was performed to analyze the pumping characteristics of a double acting valve-less pump. This valve-less pump uses the fluidic diode instead of usual mechanical movable valve to rectify the flow. The author designed and produced a test machine of the double acting valve-less pump driven by servo motor. As the results of the transport examination, the maximal flow rate of the test valve-less pump was 90ml/min and the lift head was 450mm in drive cycle number 109cycle/min. The influence of driving cycle number on pump performance was also clarified, and it was appeared that the optimum cycle number was in existent. In addition, the author developed the performance design method of the double acting valve-less pump. The experimental performance values agreed with the design values. So, the validity of the performance design method was able to be confirmed.departmental bulletin pape

The purpose of this article is to show what kind of effects media education provides to students. In 2014, one of my seminar’s topics was to apply McLuhan’s media theory. One student quoted the theory to support his hypothesis: how information technology connected with cold medium makes coterie activity become more active than before. Teaching method to establish a research theme of mathematics by students
publisherIn this paper, we consider a teaching method about the way to establish a research theme of mathematics by students. This method leads to an improvement problem-posing ability of students in mathematics education. For this purpose, the author insists on the importance of appreciating mathematics, because students can understand some principles and beauty of mathematics and their brains are stimulated. Of course, interesting topics should be chosen by students. After these works, we have to teach them way to collect interesting data and to find some mathematical laws from the data, and to hypothesize. In particular, it is important that they have a hypothesis. This means that they found a research theme. We shall verify the effect of the teaching method from some cases.departmental bulletin pape
