Coordinates for Agriculture and Social Welfare Linkage: Interview at Agri-Support Center for the Disabled People in Niigata City
Concentration variations in atmospheric gaseous and particulate mercury in the Kashiwazaki area
Atmospheric gaseous mercury (AGM) and atmospheric particulate mercury (APM) concentrations were both measured approximately in the same duration, i.e., from August 2008 to September 2009.These measurements were acquired on the rooftop of the North Building of the Niigata Institute of Technology (NIIT) located in Fujihashi, Kashiwazaki City.AGM was also measured from December 2008 to April 2009 on the sixth-floor porch of a residence building in Honami-cho, Kashiwazaki City, which is located approximately 4 km north of NIIT.The obtained median concentrations of AGM at NIIT and Honami-cho were 1.77 ng/m^3 and 1.62 ng/m^3, respectively, both of which were less than 1/20 of the guideline concentration (40 ng/m^3) for reducing risks due to long-term exposure to atmospheric mercury. The median concentrations of AGM in the daytime and nighttime at NIIT were 1.89 ng/m^3 and 1.71 ng/m^3, respectively. The reason behind this concentration difference may be because anthropogenic mercury emission sources to the atmosphere in Kashiwazaki City influence AGM more in the daytime than in the
nighttime. The median concentration of APM was 0.0094 ng/m^3, which was nearly 0.5% of the AGM concentration.Significant correlations were observed between APM and the water-soluble nitrate and calcium in the particulate matter
Current Situation and Challenges of Customary Forest Use in Use in West Kutai District, East Kalimantan, the Republic of Indonesia
Traditionally managed customary forests have been decreasing in area due to
the expansion of coal and palm oil plantation in recent years. The purpose of this study was to
clarify the contemporary significance of customary forests and the possibility of coexistence with
palm oil plantation development. This article examines customary forest use and management, with
a focus on the quantitative evaluation of food production capacity and population supporting
capacity based observation of Benuaq peoples in West Kutai District of East Kalimantan. In a
field survey of two villages, we interviewed local farmers, village chiefs, customary forest chiefs,
and key persons with knowledge of the customary forests. The results showed that most of the
villagers were changing their main source of cash income to rubber production due to the decreased
prices of rattan. The customary forests have been used and managed as fruit gardens and traditional
rubber gardens, with some areas for traditional swidden practices. The villagers have two kinds of
rubber gardens; traditional rubber gardens and rubber plantations. Traditional rubber gardens are
managed based on traditional practices and are large compared to rubber plantation areas. Rubber
plantations were adopted by the government project TCSSP (Tree Crop Small holder Sector
Project) in the 1990s. This study confirmed that customary forest use has the function of saving
local agricultural products, soil, and water resources, and also conserves the forest biodiversity.
Both villages have been able to manage indigenous forest and rubber plantations as the main source
of livelihood. It is inferred that the use of customary forests offers the possibility of both cash
income generation for local people and forest conservation contributions. Traditional rubber
gardens and fruit gardens developed in this work should be effective for biodiversity and forest
conservation strategy
Impacts of rule revision in game of Women’s Japan Basketball League influence that rule revision exerts on game in basketball
The newest rule revision of basketball in Japan was done in 2015, this rule had been applied at 2014-2015 seasons in WJBL(Women’s Japan Basketball League). Then in this study, we researched the result of past games of WJBL that the rule revision in 2015 what influence the game. As a result, a significant difference was found in Free Throws Made(p=0.036) , Free Throws Attempted(p=0.013), Fouls(p=0.012), and Defense Rebounds (p=0.032) in comparing between the old and new rule games. Moreover, a significant difference was found in Free Throws Percentage(p=0.033), Defense Rebounds (p=0.014), and Turnovers (p=0.032) in comparing between winning team groups of the old and new rule game. Each team did not respond to the new rule, and it was suggested that Defense Rebounds and Turnovers had increased because players choose difficult shot or make mistakes. The purpose in the rule revision was to aim at the speedup of the game and to increase the chance of the attack and the shot more, but the effect of intending was not admitted at 2014-2015 season in WJBL
