Hyaluronic acid enhances cell migration, viability, and mineralized tissue-specific genes in cementoblasts
Background/Objectives: It has been repeatedly demonstrated that cementum formation is a crucial step in periodontal regeneration. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an important component of the extracellular matrix which regulates cells functions and cell-cell communication. Hyaluronic acid/derivatives have been used in regenerative periodontal therapy, but the cellular effects of HA are still unknown. To investigate the effects of HA on cementoblast functions, cell viability, migration, mineralization, differentiation, and mineralized tissue-associated genes and cementoblast-specific markers of the cementoblasts were tested.Materials and Methods: Cementoblasts (OCCM-30) were treated with various dilutions (0, 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, 1:32, 1:64, 1:128) of HA and examined for cell viability, migration, mineralization, and gene expressions. The mRNA expressions of osteocalcin (OCN), runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), bone sialoprotein (BSP), collagen type I (COL-I), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), cementum protein-1 (CEMP-1), cementum attachment protein (CAP), and small mothers against decapentaplegic (Smad) -1, 2, 3, 6, 7, beta-catenin (Ctnnb1) were performed with real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Total RNA was isolated on days 3 and 8, and cell viability was determined using MTT assay on days 1 and 3. The cell mineralization was evaluated by von Kossa staining on day 8. Cell migration was assessed 2, 4, 6, and 24 hours following exposure to HA dilutions using an in vitro wound healing assay (0, 1:2, 1:4, 1:8).Results: At dilution of 1:2 to 1:128, HA importantly increased cell viability (p < .01). HA at a dilution of 1/2 increased wound healing rates after 4 h compared to the other dilutions and the untreated control group. Increased numbers of mineralized nodules were determined at dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, and 1:8 compared with control group. mRNA expressions of mineralized tissue marker including COL-I, BSP, RunX2, ALP, and OCN significantly improved by HA treatments compared with control group both on 3 days and on 8 days (p < .01). Smad 2, Smad 3, Smad 7, and beta-catenin (Ctnnb1) mRNAs were up-regulated, while Smad1 and Smad 6 were not affected by HA administration. Additionally, HA at dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, and 1:8 remarkably enhanced CEMP-1 and CAP expressions in a dilution- and time-dependent manner (p < .01).Conclusions: The present results have demonstrated that HA affected the expression of both mineralized tissue markers and cementoblast-specific genes. Positive effects of HA on the cementoblast functions demonstrated that HA application may play a key role in cementum regeneration

Evaluation of Production Performance Parameters of Two Laying Hen Strains Housed in Four Housing Environments
This study investigated the impact of housing environment on performance parameters of the Lohmann LSL Classic (LW) and Lohmann Sandy (LS) strains. The deep litter (DL), free access to outdoor Mentha piperita (MP), Petroselinum crispum (PC), and Medicago sativa (MS) housing environments were examined. A total of 260 four-weekold birds were randomly allotted to DL and outdoor plant-associated groups, with four and three replicates, respectively, and 10 birds per replicate. Data collection for weekly feed intake began at 4 weeks until the end of the study. Weekly hen weights were measured from 4 weeks of age until the age of 50% egg production; and then later, at 52 weeks of age. From the day of the first egg until the last day of the study, eggs laid in each nest box tier (upper, middle, bottom, and floor) were recorded and weighed at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 3:00 p.m. Housing environment influenced the age at first egg and 50% egg production, hen-day egg production, feed intake during the egg-laying period, feed conversion ratio, average egg weight, and egg size distribution ( p< 0.01; p< 0.05). Age at first egg and 50% egg production, hen-day egg production, feed intake, average egg weight, and egg size distribution varied between strains ( p< 0.01; p< 0.05). Most of the eggs were laid in the morning and on the upper nest box tier ( p< 0.01). Additionally, average egg weight varied among the egg-laying time and nest box tiers, and most of the eggs laid were in the large egg size (56-65 g) category ( p< 0.01). It was concluded that access to Medicago sativa offers hens the most ideal environment for production performance. The two strains were quite similar in terms of overall performance outcomes.Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Council of Nigbreve;de OEmer Halisdemir University [TGT 2022/4-BAGEP]This study was supported by the Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Council of Ni & gbreve;de OEmer Halisdemir University under grant no. Crete under Venetian rule (1204-1453)
The Republic of Venice which founded by Roman consuls who send from Padoa in 421 and maintained its loyalty to the Byzantine Empire in the early periods and gained privileges despite the difficult geographical conditions it was in, made significant progress towards becoming a maritime empire from the 900s onwards, it captured the island of Crete, which would become its main colony after the Crusade in 1204. After the Republic of Venice acquired the island of Crete through purchase, it sent its own noble citizens from the metropolis to settle on the island in 1211 and began to implement its own administrative system, the sestiere, on the island. In addition to the sestiere system, Venice appointed a duke and two assistants known as consiglieri to the island, as in the capital. The island also became known ad the Duchy of Heraklion (Duca di Candia) or Crete. However, almost immediately after this system, known as the six-fold, was implemented, rebellions were seen, especially by the local Orthodox noble Greek families on the island, and these rebels continued until the end of the 1450s. Therefore, the process of settling the Republic of Venice on the island of Crete was often difficult. Although the Republic of Venice had to fight against these rebellions, it continued its communication with the Eastern Mediterranean and other parts of Europe via this island by implementing almost everything that existed in the capital, including officials on the island of Crete, in political, military, commercial and socio-economic matters. This study, which consists of an introduction and three chapters, first deals with political, administrative and military system of the Republic of Venice on the island of Crete, as well as the rebellions that took place on the island and the Venetian officials on the island. The second chapter is entirely devoted to the political and military relations of the Duchy of Crete with other states and principalities. The final chapter aims to provide the socio-economic structure of the island in general
Further Results for Hermite-Based Milne-Thomson Type Fubini Polynomials with Trigonometric Functions
This paper examines generating functions of r-parametric Hermite-based Milne-Thomson polynomials. Using generating function methods, the relationships among these polynomials, Fubini type polynomials, and trigonometric functions are given. Moreover, new formulas are derived by utilizing not only the generating functions of these polynomials but also associated functional equations. These formulas pertain to r-parametric Hermite-based sine-and cosine-Milne-Thomson Fubini polynomials, as well as Stirling type polynomials and numbers. Additionally, by analyzing special cases of newly obtained results, some known formulas are also derived. Furthermore, some identities involving secant and cosecant numbers are derived through the properties of trigonometric functions. Special polynomials and their generating functions are an important tool for solving some problems in many areas such as combinatorics and number theory. By introducing new formulas, this paper significantly enhances these problems-solving abilities in these areas. Consequently, these results have potential to shed light on important applications in mathematics, engineering, and mathematical physics

TREES IN SEMIARID ZONES - PERCEPTION OF ECOSYSTEM SERVICES AND COMMUNITY VALUES IN NIĞDE PROVINCE, CENTRAL ANATOLIA, TÜRKIYE
Central Anatolia typifies the semiarid agroecological conditions of Turkiye given its low annual precipitation and winter temperatures. Wheat, barley, chickpea, lentil, vetch, apples and potatoes are largely grown in this zone but native perennials, including oaks, Turkish fir and poplar, are on the decline thereby limiting their contribution to ecosystem services. The disconnect between the value of trees and ecosystem services in Central Anatolia has not been studied previously. This study focused on the knowledge, importance, intercropping, ecosystem services, community values and planting of trees in Nigde, a representative province in Central Anatolia, Turkiye. A quantitative survey of 301 participants was conducted to understand their perception of selected trees grouped as nitrogen fixing and nonnitrogen fixing. Indicators were tested for association (chi 2) and responses were disaggregated into two participant groups, farmers and non-farmers. Generally, participants showed a widespread knowledge about the trees. The top five trees of perceived importance were fruit, poplar, hawthorn, black pine and oak which were mainly valued for environmental protection, health and income. High value tree agroforestry was a preference while perception of tree-based ecosystem services focused on cultural and provisioning services. Although there was considerable support for the concept of planting more trees, tree survival remains low and increased social engagement in further perennial studies is needed.Ayhan Sahenk FoundationThis study was a part of the PhD research of EAO under scholarship provided by the Ayhan Sahenk Foundation. Türkiye'nin Nigde ilinden bazi yaprakbiti türlerinin (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) karyotip degerlendirilmesi
The biological features of aphids as holocentricity, parthenogenetic reproduction, and telescopic generation have fascinated researchers to conduct chromosomal studies. Because of their chromosomes' holocentricity, the fragmentation fusion leads to karyotypic variations in aphid species. In phytophagous insects like aphids, holocentrism can be related to production of compounds that induce chromosomal variations. In the current study, the evaluation of karyotypes of six aphid species belonging to six genera that infest different host plants at the Ni & gbreve;de & Ouml;mer Halisdemir University campus area was conducted between September and November 2022. Evaluated species were Acyrthosiphon ( Acyrthosiphon ) ilka Mordvilko, 1914, Aphis ( Aphis ) spiraecola Patch, 1914, Brachycaudus ( Brachycaudus ) helichrysi (Kaltenbach, 1843), Cinara ( Cinara ) curvipes (Patch, 1912), Macrosiphum ( Macrosiphum ) rosae (L., 1758), and Pterochloroides persicae (Cholodkovsky, 1898). The C. curvipes and A. ilka karyotypes were determined for the first time in this study.Acknowledgment The authors would like to thank Dr. Teoman Kanklc and Dr. Zubeyde Kumbcak for their valuable assistance
Evaluation of Cataract Surgery Outcomes in Geriatric Population with Geriatric Depression Scale
Aim: To show the changes in geriatric depression scale (GDS) scores in patients undergoing senile cataract sur- gery. Methods: A total of 74 patients aged 60 years and older who presented to the Mersin City E&R hospital Ophthal- mology Clinic between January 01, 2023, and May 01, 2023, with low vision and underwent phacoemulsification surgery for senile cataract were included in this study. Patients with antidepressant use and/or ongoing follow-up and treatment for depression in a psychiatric clinic were excluded from this study. All patients were evaluated with the GDS before the surgery and the third month after surgery. Results: When the distribution according to GDS is analyzed, 38 patients scored 0-10 points, 18 patients scored 11-13 points, 18 patients scored 14 points and above in the preoperative period. In the postoperative period, 49 patients scored 0-10 points, 14 patients scored 11-13 points, 11 patients scored 14 points and above. The mean preoperative GDS score was 10.22 ± 5.01, while the mean postoperative GDS score was 8.2 ± 4.92. There was a positive correlation (r=0.680 preoperative and r=0.801 postoperative) between visual acuity and GDS score in the preoperative period (p<0.001 for both). Conclusions: Cataract surgery may potentially reduce the risk of depression or shorten the duration of depression in geriatric patient
