This model, which is also considered as collaborative action research, has a long-established history in teacher education in Japan, where it originated. In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of the lesson study model on the development of social studies teacher candidates' professional skills. In the study, qualitative approach was adopted and action research method was applied. In this model, which was implemented in a secondary school in the central district of Niğde province in the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year, the participant group consisted of five senior social studies teacher candidates (practitioners), the researcher (facilitator, expert, researcher), the supervisor (the researcher's thesis supervisor), the social studies teacher of the implementation school (external expert), and seventh grade students. The research reflects an eight-week period characterized by observation of lessons, writing individual and joint plans, presentation of the planned research lessons by the practitioners, evaluation of the lessons, meetings for new plans, and a reflection session at the end of the process (sharing the results with the relevant public). During this period, the following were used as data collection tools: lesson plans, revised lesson plans, lesson observation forms, interview forms, meeting observation forms and participant diaries. These tools were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. At the end of the study, the following findings were reached regarding the effect of the lesson study model on the development of social studies teachers' professional skills: In the study, it was seen that teacher candidates' evaluated the Lesson Study model as a model that can be used in professional development. Practitioners of the research course planning phase; It has been observed that it has a positive effect on planning skills, subject area mastery, field knowledge and field education knowledge. In the study, the lesson study model was described as encouraging in the learning of professional knowledge that was evaluated as missing. The external expert (the social studies teacher of the implementation school) and the researcher (facilitator, expert) were characterized by the practitioners as directive, helpful, facilitator, guide and instructor. In the study, it was seen that teacher canditates' (practitioners) agreed on the feasibility of the lesson study model in the Teaching Practice II course and the contribution of the model to the course. The teacher candidates stated that the model's development of communication and cooperation was a strength of the model. While the finding that the model requires practitioners to gain competence in order to be successfully implemented was considered as a weakness in the research, the fact that it was applied to the same group of students was expressed as a limitation. It was seen that the teacher candidates', who associated the model with concepts such as pyramid, deduction, induction, station, ring, train and stages of human life due to its gradual structure, thought of experiencing lesson study practices with their colleagues in their professional lives. In the light of the findings of the research, it is recommended that the model be disseminated, applied through various patterns in different branches, levels and courses, and used within the scope of teacher professional development and in-service training
Melatonin modulates lipopolysaccharides-induced inflammatory response and maintains circadian rhythm associated with histone H3 acetylation in bovine mammary epithelial cells
Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) can disrupt the barrier function of mammary epithelial cells, leading to mastitis. The protective effects of melatonin (MT) have been demonstrated against various infections, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear in LPS-induced bovine mastitis. This study, therefore, aimed to investigate the modulatory effect of melatonin (MT) on LPS-induced inflammation in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs), its influence on the disruption of circadian rhythms triggered by this inflammation, and the potential underlying molecular mechanisms. BMECs extracted from lactating cows underwent one of 4 treatments in triplicates for 12 h simultaneously: Control (CON), LPS (exposed to LPS at 1 mu g/mL), MT (exposed to MT at 40 mu mol/L), or LPS + MT (LMT, exposed to both LPS at 1 mu g/mL and MT at 40 mu mol/L). The flow cytometry results demonstrated that MT reduced the ratios of cells in the G0/G1 phase but increased those in the G2/M phase (P < 0.05). Additionally, MT inhibited p65 phosphorylation levels, leading to a decreased cellular inflammatory response (P < 0.05). Treatment with MT elevated the acetylation levels of histone H3 in BMECs compared to the LPS treatment (P < 0.05). The circadian rhythm analysis revealed a significant increase in the gene expression levels of BMAL1, PER1, CRY1, and CRY2 at the 12 h mark in LMT compared to the LPS treatment (P < 0.05). Additionally, this study assessed the fluctuations in clock-related genes PER2 and CLOCK over 24 h under various treatment conditions. The results demonstrated that BMECs exposed to LMT treatment exhibited a significant increase in the expression levels of CLOCK and PER2 genes from 4 to 24 h in comparison to the LPS treatment (P < 0.05). Moreover, cells in the LMT treatment displayed a more regular circadian rhythm cycle compared to those in the LPS treatment. Overall, the data suggest that MT could alleviate the inflammatory response in BMECs by upregulating histone H3 acetylation, thereby maintaining the physiological circadian rhythm of BMECs.National key research and development program [2021YFC2103004]; Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Fund of Yangzhou University and International Academic Exchange Fund for Graduate Students of Yangzhou University; Construction and Demonstration of Ecological Circulation Safety Breeding Model for Meat Sheep in Southern Xinjiang [2021DB014]This study was financially supported by the national key research and development program (2021YFC2103004) , Construction and Demonstration of Ecological Circulation Safety Breeding Model for Meat Sheep in Southern Xinjiang (2021DB014) , the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Fund of Yangzhou University and International Academic Exchange Fund for Graduate Students of Yangzhou University.
The effect of powder and pellet forms of added metal hydride materials on reaction kinetics and storage
In the present research, metal hydride pellets were synthesized to enhance the kinetics of hydrogen charge/ discharge processes. By incorporating ENG (expanded natural graphite) and copper additives, we observed improvements in the heat transfer coefficients and storage capacities of the hydrogen storage materials. The reactor is designed to contain 1000 g of storage material in the form of powder or 25 pellets each weighing 40 g. The influence of storage materials with enhanced thermal conductivity on the hydrogen charge/discharge process was experimentally studied in a metal hydride reactor under a pressure of 10 bar. The reactor was heated under vacuum (10-4-4 mmHg) to approximately 200 degrees C for 2 h in order to complete the activation process. Following the heating process, the reactor was allowed to cool to ambient temperature, after which the hydrogen was introduced to the reactor at 10 bar pressure for 50 min. The absorption and desorption procedure was reiterated up to 20 cycles, and recordings of data were taken at intervals of 5 cycles to monitor the variations between the cycles. After 10 charge/discharge cycles under pressure of 10 bar, the hydrogen stored in the reactor amounted to approximately 9.93 g in pellet form and 7.20 g in powder form.Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [121M529]; Council of Higher Education (YOK)The authors would like to thank The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for the financial support under contract number 121M529. 100/2000 PhD. Nonequivalent Antiferromagnetically Coupled Sublattices Induce Two-Step Spin-Crossover Transitions: Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Aspects
As a continuation to the previously published work (Yal & ccedil;& imath;n et al. (2022)), we investigate the equilibrium and nonequilibrium properties of the spin-crossover systems, with a specific focus on the nonequivalent sublattice, and compare these properties with those of the equivalent sublattices. We used the lowest approximation of the cluster variation method (LACVM) to derive the static equations for the order parameters of the two sublattices and determine high-spin fraction in relation to temperature and external magnetic field in a spin-crossover system. At a low temperature, the transition from stable high-spin (HS) state where nHS=1 occurs in the plateau region, where nHS=0.5 for nonequivalent sublattices. The order parameters for non-equivalent sublattices exhibit different states at the transition temperature. Also, we study the nonequilibrium properties of the order parameters and high-spin fraction using the path probability method (PPM). With the current model, we obtain and analyze the relaxation curves for the order parameters Sa, Sb, and high-spin fraction. These curves demonstrate the existence of bistability at low temperatures. At the end of this study, we present the flow diagram that shows the order parameters for different temperature values. The diagram exhibits states that are stable, metastable, and unstable
Tuning the Proportional-Integral-Derivative Control Parameters of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Using Artificial Neural Networks for Point-to-Point Trajectory Approach
Nowadays, trajectory control is a significant issue for unmanned micro aerial vehicles (MAVs) due to large disturbances such as wind and storms. Trajectory control is typically implemented using a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. In order to achieve high accuracy in trajectory tracking, it is essential to set the PID gain parameters to optimum values. For this reason, separate gain values are set for roll, pitch and yaw movements before autonomous flight in quadrotor systems. Traditionally, this adjustment is performed manually or automatically in autotune mode. Given the constraints of narrow orchard corridors, the use of manual or autotune mode is neither practical nor effective, as the quadrotor system has to fly in narrow apple orchard corridors covered with hail nets. These reasons require the development of an innovative solution specific to quadrotor vehicles designed for constrained areas such as apple orchards. This paper recognizes the need for effective trajectory control in quadrotors and proposes a novel neural network-based approach to tuning the optimal PID control parameters. This new approach not only improves trajectory control efficiency but also addresses the unique challenges posed by environments with constrained locational characteristics. Flight simulations using the proposed neural network models have demonstrated successful trajectory tracking performance and highlighted the superiority of the feed-forward back propagation network (FFBPN), especially in latitude tracking within 7.52745 x 10-5 RMSE trajectory error. Simulation results support the high performance of the proposed approach for the development of automatic flight capabilities in challenging environments
Pedal curves obtained from Frenet vector of a space curve and Smarandache curves belonging to these curves
In this study, first the pedal curves as the geometric locus of perpendicular projections to the Frenet vectors of a space curve were defined and the Frenet vectors, curvature, and torsion of these pedal curves were calculated. Second, for each pedal curve, Smarandache curves were defined by taking the Frenet vectors as position vectors. Finally, the expressions of Frenet vectors, curvature, and torsion related to the main curves were obtained for each Smarandache curve. Thus, new curves were added to the curve family
