Therefore, investigation of the psychological problems associated with the COVID-19 has become an important research area. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the relationships among Fear of COVID-19 (FoC), depression, and death anxiety. Further, the study investigated the mediating role of depression in the relationship between FoC and death anxiety. The Fear of COVID-19 scale, Depression Scale and Death Anxiety Scale were used to collect data from 372 emerging adults aged between 18 and 25 years. The results indicated that FoC was a positive and significant predictor of both depression and death anxiety. The results further indicated that depression was a positive and significant predictor of death anxiety. Depression partially mediated the relationship between FoC and death anxiety. The findings suggested that the FoC may trigger depression and death anxiety, and therefore, preventive measures should be more emphasized. The findings have implications for mental health professionals and practitioners in counseling

Analysis of crude protein utilisation in ruminant rations: supplementation of limiting amino acids and their effect on the environment - an updated review

    Get PDF
Protein quality plays a pivotal and dynamic role in the growth, productivity, and reproduction of ruminants. Increasing the proportion of dietary protein (CP) alone cannot balance the concentration of limiting amino acids (AA) in the duodenum of high -yielding dairy cows. However, supplying rumen -protected AA is believed to improve productivity and reproduction rates. Malabsorption of CP -rich meals in the rumen leads to high nitrogen (N) excretion through urine and faeces in the form of nitric oxide, nitrous oxide, ammonia and nitrate in the environment. Research data indicate that lysine and methionine are the two most limiting AA in the ruminant ration. Supplementing these limiting AA in ruminant diets is one of the most effective strategies to improve CP usage and reduce the negative impact of CP in the diet. Several in vivo and in vitro experimental studies have demonstrated that even low -quality dietary CP, when supplemented with rumen -protected AA (Met + Lys), exhibited a greater ability to reduce N2 or NH3 losses, while also supporting a decrease in enteric fermentation gas production and minimising soil or water pollution associated with animal production. However, further research is necessary to explore the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying the effects of AA dietary supplementation on the rumen microbiota in ruminants

Plants have very important chemical components, known as secondary metabolites, for the pharmaceutical industry, as well as for the chemical, cosmetics, and agricultural control industries. These secondary metabolites isolated from essential oils are used to obtain the raw material or fragrance component of the drug by semi-synthesis. For this reason, plants have been used to treat many diseases in the past, and their active ingredients are still used in medicine today. Each plant, each drug, contains differences owing to their natural structure. However, making the drug obtained from a plant a standard product is important in terms of using it as a medicine in treatment. Therefore, in our study, both the characterization of secondary metabolites and the antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiproliferative potential of Melissa officinalis were investigated. beta-Citral (30.900%) was the main component of the essential oil. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents of M. officinalis were found to be 923.33 mu g/mL gallic acid equivalent and 1.650 mu g/mL quercetin equivalent. The free radical scavenging percentage of M. officinalis was 42.17%. M. officinalis had antimicrobial activity against Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida parapsilosis. In mouse fibroblast cells, the cell viability was found to be 87.50%, 88.235%, and 94.118% respectively, at low doses. In a human breast cancer cell line, it was observed that the cell viability at low concentrations was 77.861%, 85.40%, and 89.474% respectively. The inhibitory concentrations IC50 of M. officinalis calculated for mouse fibroblast and human breast cancer cells in the GraphPad Prism 9.1.1 program were found to be 6229 and 4417 mu g/mL respectively. In conclusion, M. officinalis has high bioactive secondary metabolites such as beta-citral, beta-caryophyllene, 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, and cis-1,2-dihydroperillaldehyde, has strong antimicrobial activity, and inhibits viability on breast cancer cells.Duzce University DUBAP project [2020.11.01.1145]This work was supported by grants from the Duzce University DUBAP project 2020.11.01.1145

    Get PDF
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the alkaline sulfide (Na2S+NaOH) pre-identification process on cyanide leaching performance in oxidized refractory gold-silver ores. The ore has intensive oxide, carbonate, and silicate content, and contains Au/Ag minerals containing electrum, acanthite, and silver-bearing FePbZn Sulphate-Arsenate/Hydroxide minerals together with Fe, Pb, and Zn minerals. Niğde Ulukışla refractory Au/Ag ore has 8-9 g/T gold and 170-180 g/T silver grades. In mineralogical examinations, it was found that these metals were closed in minerals such as iron oxy/oxyhydroxide, calcite, and quartz or neighboring these minerals. In the cyanide soluble process after alkali sulfide preliminary procedure at room temperature, metal extraction yields were obtained as 62% for gold and 7% for silver. It is seen that silver is adversely affected by this process compared to the direct cyanidation process. However, after the hot alkali treatment process, metal extractions improved by approximately 25% of gold and 74% of silver. This increase in yield can be considered as converting Ag-oxyhydroxide into soluble Ag forms as a result of the effect of hot alkaline sulfur leaching on the cyanide process. The most important advantage of this decomposition process is to achieve high metal extraction efficiency in lower alkali concentrations

    Get PDF
In this study, seasonal milk yield estimation will be made using multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS) algorithm for multiple continuous responses in dairy cattle (Holstein hybrid). For the research, milking records for the years 2020-2021 were collected from 157 dairy animals using Holstein hybrid dairy cattle from a research farm in Konya, Türkiye. The amount of feed given in this experiment was not changed and the effect of the season on the estimation of milk yield was investigated in the study. The analyzed independent variables used in the study were pregnancy status (PS), number of days milked (MDN), Lactation Number (LN), age of cows (months), average seven-day milk yield (7-Day Average Milk-SDMY), last lactation milk yield (last_MY), number of inseminations (IN), peak yield (Pik_Yield) and target variables were calculated as (YieldAutumn/winter/spring/summer (kg) = Mean milk mean of season. In this context, the ehaGoF package was used to measure the prediction performance of the simultaneous MARS model established with the earth package for MARS analysis. MARS estimation equations obtained simultaneously for four dependent variables (multiple responses) are given. By looking at the MARS equation, the MARS model estimation equation was determined for the optimum milk yield, the threshold values, the three threshold values determined in the model were determined as MDN, Age, Peak_Yield, and the corresponding values were respectively; 159 days, 39.6 (months) and 37.1 kg/day. Considering the estimation equation, it is seen that the independent variables MDN, SDMY and LN are the most important variables in determining the estimation equation. It is seen that the best fitting value for the estimation equation of the dependent variables is the YieldWinter variable

Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) remains a challenging condition to treat despite recent advancements. This retrospective study aimed to assess the activity and tolerability of Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) PSMA-617 radioligand therapy (RLT) in mCRPC patients across multiple cancer centers in Turkey. The study included 165 patients who received at least one cycle of Lu-177 PSMA-617 RLT, with the majority having bone metastases and undergone prior treatments. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels were assessed before each treatment cycle, and the biochemical response was evaluated in accordance with the Prostate Cancer Work Group 3 Criteria. The PSA decline of ?50% was classified as a response, while an increase of ?25% in PSA levels was indicative of progressive disease. Neither response nor progression was considered as stable disease. The Lu-177 PSMA-617 RLT led to a significant PSA response, with 50.6% of patients achieving a >50% decrease in PSA levels. Median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival were 13.5 and 8.2 months, respectively. Patients receiving Lu-177 PSMA-617 RLT in combination with androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) had a higher OS compared to those receiving Lu-177 PSMA-617 RLT alone (18.2 vs 12.3 months, P =.265). The treatment was generally well-tolerated, with manageable side effects such as anemia and thrombocytopenia. This study provides real-world evidence supporting the effectiveness and safety of Lu-177 PSMA-617 RLT in mCRPC patients, particularly when used in combination with ARPIs. These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence on the potential benefits of PSMA-targeted therapies in advanced prostate cancer. © 2023 UICC
