Dietary thiamine supplementation modulates ruminal microbiota and partly restores lactation performance in lactating Hu ewes under heat-stress conditions
This study aimed to investigate the impact of dietary thiamine supplementation on milk production, rumen microbiota profile and inflammatory response of Hu ewes under heat-stress conditions. Twenty-seven multiparous pregnant and lactating Hu ewes of 71.6 +/- 1.4 kg body weight, 11 +/- 0.5 months gestation age, 31 +/- 1 days in milk, 1.68 +/- 0.15 L/d milk yield, and 2.14 +/- 0.12 kg of daily dry matter intake (DMI), were used in the study. Following an acclimation period of 7 days, ewes were divided into 3 blocks of 9 each (one Hu ewe per pen), in a complete randomized design and assigned to one of three environmental temperature conditions for 15 days: thermoneutrality without supplementation (CON), heat-stressed without supplementation (HS) or heat-stressed with dietary thiamine supplementation (200 mg/kg of DMI; HST). The results indicated that the HS group experienced notable declines in milk protein, fat, and lactose content from day 10-15 (P < 0.05) compared to the CON group. In contrast, thiamine supplementation significantly elevated milk protein content from day 13-15 and raised milk fat and lactose content on days 14 and 15 (P < 0.05) compared to the HS group, thereby enhancing milk quality to a certain extent. Additionally, thiamine supplementation (HST group) significantly increased the circulating thiamine and Immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentrations accompanied by a significant decline in LPS-binding protein, interleukin-1 (IL-1), and serum amyloid A protein (SAA) levels compared to the HS group (P < 0.05). Rumen microbial composition analysis revealed that thiamine supplementation increased the abundance of Pyramidobacter, Butyrivibrio, Bacteroides, and Saccharofermentans. In conclusion, heat exposure during lactation in Hu ewes lowered milk production and quality, affecting rumen microbes. Dietary thiamine supplementation could improve rumen fermentation, mitigate heat stress-induced inflammation, and restore milk production in Hu ewes under heat stress conditions.Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation [BK20240840]; Construction and Demonstration of the Ecological Circulation Safety Breeding Model for Meat Sheep in Southern Xinjiang [2021DB014]This study was financially supported by the Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation (BK20240840) , and the Construction and Demonstration of the Ecological Circulation Safety Breeding Model for Meat Sheep in Southern Xinjiang (2021DB014) . Investigation of the Geological, Mineralogical, and Geochemical Contents of the Sedimentary Fills in the Northern Area of the Quaternary-Aged Bor Basin (Niğde/Turkey): Implications for Sediment Source and Paleoclimates
In the northern part of the Ni & gbreve;de (Central Anatolian) Quaternary Bor Basin, stratigraphic sections P1 and P2 were sampled, reaching depths of 11 m and 25 m. The samples were analyzed with thin-section, XRD, and chemical analyses (ICP-MS) to determine their chemical and mineralogical properties. In the study area, partially lithified volcano-sedimentary rocks comprised paleosol, calcrete, gravel, sand, silt, mud, clay, and volcanoclastics such as pumice fall-out. Grain size analyses from the Zengen (P1) and Altunhisar (P2) regions showed very poor sorting and strong positive skewness. The Zengen-area (P1) samples contained rock fragments, calcite, quartz, opal-CT, feldspar, amphibole, pyroxene, biotite, and clay minerals such as smectite, chlorite, illite, palygorskite, and sepiolite. In calcrete zones, however, the amounts of CaO increased, whereas significant decreases in the amounts of SiO2 were observed. Therefore, a negative correlation between SiO2 and CaO was observed. The vertical distributions and behaviors of trace elements in the Zengen-area profile showed variation with the different levels of the P1 section. It is thought that in the Bor Plain, after 17,000 years ago, no lacustrine phase reached a level above the periglacial lake level in the region, reaching this level with the melting of the ice sheets in the area. During the late glacial period, shallow freshwater lacustrine phases and paleosols were identified from 12,500 to 11,000 yr BP in the basin.Nigde University [2010/13]This research was funded by Nigde University grant number BAP-FEB project number 2010/13. Optimization of Process Parameters for Microwave Drying of Yellow- and Purple-Fleshed Potatoes
The main objective of the present work was to study the optimization of microwave drying of potatoes that have different flesh colors. The effects of independent variables of microwave power (300, 450, 600 W), slice thickness (2-4, 6 mm), and steam blanching time (2, 5, 8 min) on the color, total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity, starch ratio, and total monomeric anthocyanin content (TMA) were investigated by using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Before drying, potato slices that had different thicknesses were blanched in steam at 90 degrees C for indicated times. Optimization was applied to improve bioactive compounds, starch ratio, and color. The optimum drying parameters were determined as 300 W, 6 mm, and 8 min for purple-fleshed potatoes, and 450 W, 6 mm, and 2 min for yellow-fleshed potatoes. This study is beneficial to the development of the processing of potatoes in the food industry and provides more insights into the application of microwave drying technology.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBIdot;TAK); Nigde Omer Halisdemir University Scientific Research Council (BAP) [TGT 2022/9-BAGEP]Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUB & Idot;TAK).This study was granted by the Nigde Omer Halisdemir University Scientific Research Council (BAP) (TGT 2022/9-BAGEP)
An investigation of students' mathematical connection and metacognitive skills in the mathematical modelling process
The purpose of the study is to investigate the changing mathematical connection and metacognitive skills of students in the process of applying mathematical modelling. The data used for the study were collected from modelling activities, students' written responses to modelling activities, audio recordings, semi-structured interviews, and observation notes. The data obtained were analysed using content analysis. As a result of the data analysis, it was found that metacognitive skills were used in each activity in the mathematical modelling process and were developed in interaction with each other. Although inter-concept and real-world connection skills are most commonly used in mathematical connection skills, modelling activities were found to enhance connection skills by allowing students to use connection skills with different disciplines and between different representations of the concept. It was found that metacognitive skills and mathematical connection skills develop interdependently, and it was found that mathematical modelling activities can be used as a tool for developing both of these skills. The data reported here were collected as part of the first author's thesis
ROBOTS DE SERVICIO EN HOSTELERÍA: UN ESTUDIO DE MÉTODO MIXTO
The aim of the research is to determine the willingness and perspectives of the employees of the five-star hotel business in Nevsehir, Turkey, regarding service robots by using a mixed method. 396 question-naires were obtained with the convenience sampling method. In addition, the pur-poseful sampling method was adopted in the study, which was designed as a case study, and 12 people were interviewed. The research findings were revealed by making difference analyzes and descriptive analyzes. It has been determined that hotel employees are relatively willing to work with service robots. Employees focused more on the performance and convenience of service robots. Some employees stated that service robots will show human-like features physically, but they cannot replace humans due to the labor-intensive nature of tourism. On the other hand, it has been concluded that with the achievement of the service standard, they will play an impor-tant role in reducing errors and increasing service quality

Experimental and numerical investigations of induction heating for Ti-6Al-4V sheets and epoxy/carbon fiber composite laminates
The objective of this study is to present the electromagnetic and the thermal multi-field coupling model of the induction heating process for numerical simulation based on the finite element method. One of the most important difficulties encountered in the induction heating processes is to ensure homogeneous temperature distribution throughout the part. To improve the uniform temperature distribution in the sheet, the induction heating system is modelled with the ANSYS software taking into account some operational and geometrical parameters including current density and coupling distance between induction coil and sheet. Induction heating simulations were performed for all simulations at 20 kHz frequency ANSYS Maxwell. The numerical model has been verified by the conducted experiments for Ti6Al4V at the current of 50 A, 125 A, and 200 A, and the 1 mm and 3 mm gap distances. The relative error of the maximum temperature between the experiment and simulation was found around 14 % recorded at 25 s measurements. In addition, the effects of the current and the frequencies on the induction heating were evaluated by the verified numerical model for epoxy/carbon fiber (UD prepreg) and epoxy/carbon fiber (Woven prepreg) plates. The results show that the induction heating model is suitable and efficient to determine the temperature distribution within the thin plates by the finite element method
Evaluation of fractal analysis and radiomorphometric measurements of mandibular bone structure in bruxism and non-bruxism paediatric patients
Objectives The goal of this examination was to compare the impact of probable sleep/awake bruxism on the mandibular trabecular bone structure by fractal analysis (FA) with digital panoramic radiograph (DPR) and radiomorphometric measurements in paediatric patients with bruxism. Methods The examination included 130 participants with 63 patients with probable sleep/awake bruxism and 67 control groups. Bilateral regions of interest (ROI) in three regions were examined as ROI1: mandibular ramus, ROI2: mandibular angulus, ROI3: anterior to the molar teeth. Radiomorphometric measurements were taken of the mandibular cortical width (MCW), panoramic mandibular index (PMI), and mandibular cortical index (MCI). p 0.05). There was no difference in the age and gender for any of the parameters (p > 0.05). Conclusion In children and adolescents, the mandibular trabecular bone can be affected by bruxism. FA can be used as an auxiliary method for finding the mandibular trabecular differences of patients with bruxism in paediatric dentistry just as it can for adults
Moderated mediation role of trust in authorities by the Kahramanmaras earthquake survivors
This article examines the moderated mediation role of trust in authorities in the direct and indirect effects of earthquake exposure on psychological distress symptoms (depressive, anxiety and stress symptoms) through somatic fear (sleep loss and increased heart rates). Convenience and snowball sampling methods were used to collect survey data from 552 adult participants (221 men, 331 women) living in the earthquake zone. The independent variable is earthquake exposure, the mediating variable is somatic fear, and the moderating variable is trust in authorities (emergency plans and strategies, government policies, and media information). Factor analysis using structural equation modelling confirmed one factor for fear of earthquake and trust in authorities and three factors for symptoms of psychological distress. Regression results showed that disaster survivors had low trust in authorities in Turkiye. Mediation and moderated mediation results based on the bootstrap method showed that somatic fear mediated the effect of earthquake exposure on depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms and stress symptoms, and trust in authorities moderated the indirect effects of earthquake exposure on stress symptoms through somatic fear. Increased trust in authorities in Turkiye would alleviate psychological distress symptoms among the Kahramanmaras earthquake survivors
