    Get PDF
This study focuses on the context of diversified challenges Turkey's tourism industry faces. This study aims to test the validity of the convergence hypothesis from the perspective of destination flexibility by separating the pre-pandemic and post-pandemic periods in Turkey's 15 top tourist-producing countries. The data collected from the period 2001:1 to 2019:12 for pre-pandemic period and 2022:1 to 2023:8 for the post-pandemic period are tested by performing Hepsag's stationarity test state that the convergence hypothesis is valid in 14 of the 15 major tourism markets for the pre-pandemic period (the Russian Federation, Germany, Bulgaria, England, Iran, Iraq, Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Poland, France, Greece, Romania, Israel and Saudi Arabia). However, for the post-pandemic period, it was determined that the convergence hypothesis was valid only for Iraq, Poland, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Examining the convergence features of tourism markets provides valuable information for decision-makers of Turkey's tourism policies for economic balance in the growing cities

Purpose: Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) represents the persistent absence of sperm in ejaculate without obstruction, stemming from diverse disease processes. This survey explores global practices in NOA diagnosis, comparing them with guidelines and offering expert recommendations. Materials and Methods: A 56-item questionnaire survey on NOA diagnosis and management was conducted globally from July to September 2022. This paper focuses on part 1, evaluating NOA diagnosis. Data from 367 participants across 49 countries were analyzed descriptively, with a Delphi process used for expert recommendations. Results: Of 336 eligible responses, most participants were experienced attending physicians (70.93%). To diagnose azoospermia definitively, 81.7% requested two semen samples. Commonly ordered hormone tests included serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) (97.0%), total testosterone (92.9%), and luteinizing hormone (86.9%). Genetic testing was requested by 66.6%, with karyotype analysis (86.2%) and Y chromosome microdeletions (88.3%) prevalent. Diagnostic testicular biopsy, distinguishing obstructive azoospermia (OA) from NOA, was not performed by 45.1%, while 34.6% did it selectively. Differentiation relied on physical examination (76.1%), serum hormone profiles (69.6%), and semen tests (68.1%). Expectations of finding sperm surgically were higher in men with normal FSH, larger testes, and a history of sperm in ejaculate. Conclusions: This expert survey, encompassing 367 participants from 49 countries, unveils congruence with recommended guidelines in NOA diagnosis. However, noteworthy disparities in practices suggest a need for evidence-based, international consensus guidelines to standardize NOA evaluation, addressing existing gaps in professional recommendations. Sociological analysis of social problems that affect the flow of life is crucial for giving meaning to human life and improving its quality. Individualization is one of the most significant issues faced by contemporary societies. The bitter consequences of individualization are experienced as the members of society become indifferent to each other, individuals become alienated from themselves, and they experience loneliness within communities. Zygmunt Bauman, one of the thinkers focusing on this subject, believes that people who are increasingly individualized should struggle to add meaning and purpose to their lives, and that they can re-express themselves with an uninterrupted effort they can sustain in this dire human condition they are in. Zygmunt Bauman, one of the critical and productive sociologists of the age we live in and considered by some circles as the \"theorist of postmodernity\", is a Polish sociologist and philosopher. He is known for his works that reveal both the adaptation of postmodern philosophy to the field of sociology and its evaluation at the theoretical level. Among them, one of his important works is The Individualized Society. In this work, he discussed how the individual will continue to exist in the society in the process of individualization, and focused on the changing character of today's social and political life. In the study, the \"Yalan Dünya\" series, which is thought to have the potential to reflect social reality, is examined. In the study, in which the sociological analysis method was used, the data were collected with the monograph technique, and the characters in the series were analyzed by associating them with Bauman's \"The Individualized Society\" thesis. As a result of the research, significant similarities were seen between Bauman's concept of individuation and the characters of the series. These similarities were interpreted in line with the problematic of the research

Geraniaceae are typically used as diuretic, anti-diarrhoeal, stomachic, and anti-hemorrhagic drugs. This study examined the phytochemicals and bioactivities in methanolic extract (ME) and petroleum ether extract (PEE) of the Erodium trifolium aerial part. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to assess the mineral profiles, high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD) were used to assess the phenolic content of ME, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to assess the fatty acid and volatile composition of the PEEs. In addition, the bioactivities of extracts were evaluated by using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, ABTS, and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity assays, including enzyme inhibition against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), alpha-amylase, alpha-glucosidase activities, and antibacterial properties. HPLC-MS identified eight compounds in ME: rutin, catechin, and caffeine were the major phenolic compounds detected. HPLC-DAD analysis showed that 11 compounds detected among epicatechin, catechin, chlorogenic acid, and gallic acid were predominant. GC-MS analysis revealed 30 fatty acids in PEE, with palmitic acid and oleic acid being predominant. The mineral content showed that Fe was the abundant microelement, and Ca and K were the abundant macroelements. The ME exhibited the highest activity compared to the PEE in all tests regarding antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Furthermore, all the extracts showed moderate inhibition against AChE, BChE, alpha-amylase, and alpha-glucosidase. In conclusion, E. trifolium may be employed to separate novel bioactive metabolites with potential pharmaceutical activities.Deanship of Scientific Research at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) [IMSIU-RPP2023030]This work was supported and funded by the Deanship of Scientific Research at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) (grant number IMSIU-RPP2023030)

In this study, the geopolymer mortar mixtures were manufactured by activating andesite stone cutting waste dust with sodium silicate. The sodium silicate content in the mixtures was determined to contain 6%, 8% and 10% Na2O by weight of waste andesite dust (WAD). The produced mixtures were subjected to thermal curing at three different temperatures (60 degrees C, 75 degrees C and 90 degrees C), and in two different periods (8 hours and 24 hours). Flexural strength (fs) and compressive strength (fc) tests of 1, 28 and 56 days were carried out on the specimens obtained from the geopolymer mortar mixtures. The effects of Na2O content, thermal curing temperature and time on the strength values of the geopolymer mortars were investigated. Moreover, the geopolymer mortar samples produced with 8 hours of thermal curing were exposed separately to 400 degrees C, 600 degrees C and 800 degrees C. The specimens, which were kept for 1 hour at 400 degrees C, 600 degrees C and 800 degrees C, were exposed to three different cooling conditions (slow-cooled in air, fast-cooled in air and water-cooled). The fs and fc tests were carried out on the cooled geopolymer mortars, and the effects of high temperatures and cooling conditions on the strength properties of the geopolymer mortars were evaluated. In addition, the changes in the microstructures were examined by performing XRD and SEM/EDAX analyses on the selected geopolymer mortars. The fs and fc values of the watercooled geopolymer mortars significantly decreased.Research Fund of the Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University [TEZ22F8]This work was supported by Research Fund of the Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University, Project Number: TEZ22F8

World order analysis from the perspective of the dependency school

Anahtar Kelimeler: Bağımlılık Teorisi, Az Gelişmiş Ülkeler, Dünya SistemleriThe neoliberal perspective has led to increased interaction among countries and the globalization of trade on a global scale. While this globalized world trade presents new opportunities for countries, it also brings forth a set of new threats. The Dependency Theory emerged in response to the inadequacies of development theory in identifying the threats faced by underdeveloped countries, becoming a prominent and enduring topic in the literature. According to the Dependency Theory, the underdevelopment of less developed countries is attributed to developed nations. With the onset of globalization, a power race has unfolded among states, giving rise to novel forms of colonial activities. This has resulted in central countries pursuing self-interested activities in peripheral nations. The Dependency Theory finds its foundation in the global power struggle, where developed countries come to a central position by exerting control over the relatively less developed or underdeveloped countries in their vicinity. This study delves into global inequality, a consequence of globalization and economic interaction, from the perspective of the Dependency Theory, known to have originated in Latin America. Key Words: Dependency Theory, Underdeveloped Countries, World System

A Triple Self-Embedding Fragile Watermarking Scheme for Image Tamper Detection and Recovery

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new triple self-embedding fragile watermarking technique for image tamper detection and recovery. This approach divides the host image into non-overlapping regions according to the block map and further divides each region into 5x5 non-overlapping blocks. For each block, block directions are obtained from the adjacent pixel differences. The recovery information for each block is constructed by computing the block directions, differences of the directions and the mean value of each block. The authentication information for each block is generated using an Singular Value Decomposition (SVD)-based approach. The recovery information is embedded in three different blocks determined using a block map while authentication information is embedded in the block itself using the three least significant bits. The developed approach provides a triple recovery opportunity for each block due to the triple embedding. Consequently, the watermark constructing and embedding processes of this approach provide more successful image tamper recovery than the methods based on average values of blocks. The proposed approach has been evaluated against various attacks and compared with state-of-the-art methods. Experimental results shows that the proposed approach can resist attacks up to 75%

Cardiac autonomic involvement in Huntington's disease

    Get PDF
IntroductionHuntington's disease (HD) is known as a neurodegenerative disease with movement disorder and cognitive impairment; autonomic involvement is also becoming common in some recent studies. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the presence of cardiac autonomic involvement in HD patients.MethodTime and frequency domain parameters obtained from the 24-h Holter ECG(hECG) were compared between 20 HD patients and 20 healthy control subjects.ResultsFourteen HD patients had tachycardia, bradycardia, and extra beats. Interval between two heartbeats, normal-to-normal (NN), standard deviation of all normal-to-normal (SDNN), square root of the mean of the sum of the squares of the differences between consecutive N-N intervals in ms (rMSSD), and the ratio of the number of consecutive pairs of N-N intervals that differ by more than 50 ms to the total number of N-N intervals (pNN50) were all significantly higher in the patient group than in the control group during 24-h hECG monitoring. However, hECG monitoring showed that the patient group had significantly higher values of the frequency-domain metrics high frequency (HF) than the control group did (P = 0.003). Very low frequency (VLF) was lower in the patient group (P = 0.009). There was no difference in low frequency (LF) in both groups. In comparison to the control group, LF/HF was much reduced in the patient group (P = 0.001).ConclusionCardiac disfunction increases, and autonomic functions change in HD, but more comprehensive studies are needed to distinguish sympathetic and parasympathetic involvement.Nigde Omer Halisdemir UniversityNo Statement Availabl

Analysis of Trade Competitiveness of the World’s Leading Textiles Exporters by Hybrid MCDM Methods

    Get PDF
Purpose – This paper demonstrates the application of the IDOCRIW-based MABAC and MAIRCA methods in the evaluation of the trade competitiveness of the top fifteen textiles exporters in the world. Design/methodology/approach – The trade competitiveness index was used for assessing the trade competitiveness of exporters in the textile industry. The IDOCRIW method was used to obtain the weight of criteria. The analysis of the trade competitiveness of exporters was carried out using the new multi-criteria methods, namely the MABAC (Multi-Attributive Border Approximation area Comparison) and the MAIRCA (Multi-Atributive Ideal-Real Comparative Analysis). Findings – According to the results obtained by the IDOCRIW method, share in the world market (SWM) and net exports (NEX) were determined as the most and least important criteria with weight values of 0,3297 and 0,0816, respectively. After determining the criteria weight, the alternatives were ranked using the MABAC and MAIRCA methods. The results for both methods indicate that China, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Spain have the highest trade competitiveness, while Croatia, Ireland, the Republic of Cyprus, Malta, and Mexico have the lowest trade competitiveness in the textile industry. The findings demonstrated that MABAC and MAIRCA provided consistent solutions for ranking the alternatives. Additionally, the consistency and robustness of the results were tested using two different scenarios. The overall results revealed that China and Italy have the best trade competitiveness in the textile industry. Discussion – As expected, China and the European Unioun (EU) countries have the highest trade competitiveness in the world’s textile industry. It can also be stated the textile industry is strategic sector for both the EU countries and China
