New exact solutions for the Boiti-Leon-Manna-Pempinelli equation
Phenomena in physics, plasma physics, optical fibers, chemical physics, fluid mechanics, and many fields are often described by the nonlinear evolution equations. The analytical solutions of these equations are very important to understand the evaluation of the physical models. In this paper, the Boiti-Leon-Manna-Pempinelli (BLMP) nonlinear partial differential equation, which can be used to describe the incompressible fluid flow, is analytically studied by using the five different techniques which are direct integration, (G'/G)-expansion method, different form of the (G'/G)-expansion method, two variable (G'/G,1/G)-expansion method, and (1/G')- expansion method. Hyperbolic, trigonometric and rotational forms of solutions are obtained. Our solutions are reduced to the well-known solutions found in the literature by assigning the some special values to the constants appeared in the analytic solutions. Moreover, we have also obtained the new analytic solutions of the BLMP equation
The effectiveness of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy on catheter infection model
2nd Balkan Conference on Medical Mycology and Mycotoxicology -- OCT 06-08, 2022 -- Thessaloniki, GREECEBackground/Aim: This experimental study aimed to examine the effectiveness of transdermal antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (APDT) with and without antimicrobial lock therapy (ALT), on catheter biofilms. Methods: S. epidermidis and C. orthopsilosis biofilms were formed within peripheral venous catheters positioned in the marginal ear veins of New Zealand white rabbits. Biofilm formation was confirmed with scanning electron microscopy in two catheters. 24 catheters with staphylococcal biofilms and 24 with fungal biofilms were treated with APDT, ALT or APDT plus ALT for five days. Six catheters were separated as controls. APDT was applied with a red colored LED lamp and methylene blue as the photosensitizer. Vancomycin lock solutions were used as ALT for staphylococcal biofilms and amphotericin B for fungal biofilms. The effect of treatment procedures was evaluated by intraluminal biofilm viability testing based on spectrophotometric evaluation, and a quantitative (OD) value was obtained for each catheter. Results: The mean OD values obtained by 600 nm spectrophotometric reading at 24 h (biofilm viability) after ALT, APDT and ALT plus APDT procedures were 0.363, 0.151 and 0.128 for S. epidermidis and 0.092, 0.104 and 0.227 for C. orthopsilosis, respectively. All these OD values obtained after treatment procedures were lower than controls for both S. epidermidis (OD: 0,802) and C. orthopsilosis (OD: 0,315), although there were large fluctuations in our results. Conclusions: Our results suggest that transdermal APDT may be an effective method for treating staphylococcal and candida biofilms formed within intravenous catheters in our rabbit ear model. The combined use of APDT and ALT might be beneficial in these staphylococcal biofilms.Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit [TCD-2021-7005]This project was financially supported by Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit with project no: TCD-2021-7005
Revisiting the role of private tutoring on student outcomes in East Asian countries: Policies, practices, and implications
This chapter examines the role of private tutoring (PT) on student outcomes in East Asian countries, with a particular focus on policies and practices. This chapter first outlines the conceptual framework of PT and then discusses the financial burden that PT as an informal out-of-school activity places on parents. The drivers of PT have been analyzed and it has been concluded that they are mostly influenced by variables at student-, school-and country-level. In focusing on the role of PT on student outcomes, the paper emphasizes how PT influences students' academic achievement, motivation, well-being, and parent-child relationships. At the end of the chapter, it has been concluded that although PT has an influence on students' academic achievement particularly in East Asian countries, it raises important questions about students' motivation, well-being and relations with their parents. © 2024, IGI Global. Determinants of COVID-19 cases and deaths in OECD countries
AimThis research aims to examine the effects of variables that can affect COVID-19 deaths and cases in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries during the years 2020 (first wave), 2021 (vaccine available), and 2022 (vaccine available and Omicron variant appeared).Material and methodThe factors that are thought to affect the case and death rates in 37 OECD countries were examined by multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS 22. The dependent variables were the COVID-19 deaths and cases per 10,000 (in 2020, 2021, and 2022); the independent variables were universal health coverage, physicians, nurses, intensive care beds, hospital beds, non-communicable diseases mortality per 100,000 people, population over 65 years of age, out-of-pocket expenditure, private expenditure, and health expenditure per capita and percent of % GDP.ResultsIt was determined that the non-communicable diseases mortality is the relatively important variable COVID-19 cases and deaths in 2020 and 2021. After controlling for the scores of other variables, according to the ss coefficients, a one-unit increase in the number of physicians variable increases COVID-19 cases by 1.14 units in 2022; a one-unit increase in the universal coverage variable decreases COVID-19 deaths by 0.33 units in 2022.ConclusionThe results of this research provide evidence that the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak have changed between 2020, the first wave of the epidemic, 2021, when the vaccine is available, and 2022, when both the vaccine is available and the Omicron variant is seen. With the increase in vaccination in 2022, the impact of non-communicable diseases mortality on the number of COVID-19 cases has decreased

Development and psychometric evaluation of the paternal support scale of breastfeeding
Background: Social support positively affects the adaptation process of the woman to the maternal role during pregnancy and the postpartum period and increases her sensitivity to her baby. It is known that the support pro-vided by fathers to their wives during this process positively affects their decision to breastfeed and continue. Purpose: The aim of this study is to contribute to the literature by the Paternal Support Scale of Breastfeeding, testing its validity, reliability and psychometric properties. Methods: The study, which included 203 fathers with babies 0-6 months of age who were actively breastfed be-tween January and June 2022, was completed in a Medical Faculty Hospital at Konya in Turkey. The psychometric properties of the scale were evaluated with exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. In addi-tion, number/percentage, t-test for dependent and independent groups and correlation analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: Total item correlation coefficient of this scale was found to vary between 0.63 and 0.81. According to the confirmatory factor analysis results the goodness-of-fit index values of the scale indicated that the model has an acceptable fitness, and the 21-item one-dimensional scale has confirmed validity. Conclusion: Our findings showed that this scale is a good reliable measurement tool that can be used to evaluate levels of paternal support in breastfeeding. The scale can be adapted to different cultures, and cross-cultural comparisons can be planned in future studies. Practice implications. Spouse and family support increases breastfeeding success. Due to their active role in the decisions made within the family, fathers positively influence mothers' breastfeeding decisions and increase mothers' motivation to continue breastfeeding. This measurement tool, developed to measure partner support in breastfeeding, helps nurses, to determine fathers' support levels in breastfeeding. In this way, nurses can contribute to increasing the duration of breastfeeding by making effective interventions for the solution of partner support problems related to breastfeeding. Bibliometric Analysis of Oral Mucositis Studies in the Nursing Field: A Descriptive Study
The research aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of studies on oral mucositis in the field of nursing. Data were obtained from the Scopus database using the keywords “oral mucositis”, “stomatitis”, “aphthous stomatitis” and “oral ulcer”. A total of 16,863 studies were accessed and 344 studies that met the inclusion criteria were examined. VOSviewer 1.6.20 was used to analyze the data. The most published and cited authors on oral mucositis in the field of nursing, the most cited publications, and the distribution of these publications by journals and institutions were examined. The network map of co-author-authors, institutions, and country connections, as well as the common keyword analysis map, were also examined. It was discovered that publications and citations about oral mucositis in the nursing field have increased since 1990. It was determined that Laurie MacPhail was the most productive author, Chung Shan Medical University had the most publications, and the University of California had the most citations. The author with the most collaborations as a co-author was Rebecca Stone (3 co-authored articles, three clusters, 10 links, and 12 total link strength), the co-author-institution was Chung Shan Medical University (3 articles, 1 cluster, 12 links, and 12 total link strength), and the co-author- country was the United States (81 articles, 3 clusters, 15 links, and a total link strength of 19). Nutrients is the most widely published journal in this field, and the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management is the most cited. \"Oral mucositis\" is the most frequently used keyword in publications. According to study results, the most published and most cited authors and institutions in this field are in the United States. Although Turkey is one of the top three countries in terms of publications and citations, the visibility of our institutions is limited because the authors do not cooperate. There have been few studies on OM-related pain, evidence-based practice, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and pediatric oncology patients
The mediator role of psychological inflexibility in the relationships between relationship satisfaction, resilience and adult attachment styles in emerging adulthood
The main purpose of this research is to investigate the mediator role of psychological inflexibility in the relationship between relationship satisfaction, attachment styles and resilience in emerging adulthood. In this study, which is progressing quantitatively, relational survey models were used. In this context, relevant models were tested in the sample group formed with 773 participants who studied at 13 faculties or colleges and were in a romantic relationship for at least 3 months in 2023-2024 at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University using proportional and random sampling methods. The data were collected face to face using the Personal Information Form, the Experiences in Close Relationship-II (ECR-II), the Happiness in Relationships Scale, the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II). In the analysis of the data, t test, pearson correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were applied for independent samples. The mediating role between variables is handled with the PROCESS Macro Model 4 Plugin. The significance of the indirect effects was realized by the Bootstrap method. According to the research results, it has been seen that psychological inflexibility in adulthood, which appears, had a mediating role in the relationship between anxious attachment style and resilience, but also had a mediating role in the relationship between avoidant attachment style and resilience. However, it has been concluded that psychological inflexibility does not had a mediating role in the relationship between anxious attachment style and relationship satisfaction, it also does not had a mediating role in the relationship between avoidant attachment style and relationship satisfaction. Keywords: Romantic relationships, relationship satisfaction, adult attachment styles, resilience, psychological inflexibilit
The Relationship Between Plasma Gelsolin Levels and Myeloperoxidase in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis: A Prospective, Observational, Controlled Study
Objective: Given the association of inflammatory conditions with the development of comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular diseases, it is crucial to monitor inflammation in hemodialysis patients. This study aimed to evaluate plasma gelsolin and myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels before and after dialysis sessions and to assess their relationship with inflammation. Materials and Methods: The study included 16 healthy volunteers and 30 patients receiving regular hemodialysis treatment. Along with routine biochemical analyses, plasma gelsolin and MPO levels were measured in blood samples taken from the study group before and after the sessions. Results: Plasma gelsolin levels were found to be statistically higher both before and after dialysis compared to the control group (p=0.000); however, there was no significant change during the session (p=0.094). Conversely, plasma MPO activity, which was significantly higher before dialysis, increased at the end of the session (p=0.000). Conclusion: It can be concluded that elevated levels of gelsolin are associated with a chronic inflammatory response, as indicated by high -sensitivity C -reactive protein (hsCRP) and MPO levels. Consequently, gelsolin could be considered a supportive treatment strategy for these patients.Research Fund of Erciyes University [TYL-2019-8691]This study was supported by the Research Fund of Erciyes University (Grant No.TYL-2019-8691)
