    TÜRKİYE'DE DEPREMLERDE ÖZEL GÜVENLİĞİN KULLANIM DURUMU VE ÖNERİLER

    Türkiye, doğa kaynaklı afetlerden Dünya genelindeki her ülke gibi mustariptir. Özellikle deprem, Türkiye’nin en fazla etkilendiği ve etkilenilmesi beklenen doğa kaynaklı afetlerden biridir. Doğa kaynaklı afetler sonrası kamu güvenliği ve asayişin sağlanmasından genel kolluk sorumlu olmakla birlikte zaman zaman yetersiz kalabilmektedir. Genel kolluğun yetersiz kaldığı alanlarda tamamlayıcı mahiyette bir hizmet olarak kullanılması planlanan özel güvenlik müessesesi Türkiye’de yaklaşık 43 yıllık bir geçmişe sahiptir. Bu çalışmada, depremlere hazırlık ve deprem sonrasında özel güvenlik müessesesinin kullanılması hususu incelenmiştir. Nitel bir araştırma olarak tasarlanan ve amacı bakımından keşfedici bir araştırma olan bu çalışmada, mevzuat ve ilgili alan yazınına yönelik literatür taraması metodolojisi kullanılmıştır. Özel güvenlik görevlilerinin arama-kurtarma faaliyetleri, barınma alanlarında asayişi sağlama, yardım dağıtım noktalarında düzeni tesis etme, afetzedeleri tespit ve yönlendirme gibi özellikli alanlarda eğiterek göreve hazır hale getirilmesinin önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. İçişleri Bakanlığı bünyesindeki Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı (AFAD), depremler başta olmak üzere tüm doğa kaynaklı afetlere hazırlıkta yetkili bir çatı kurumdur. Ancak AFAD’ın yetersiz kalabileceği büyüklükteki doğa kaynaklı afetlerde, belirlenen ihtiyaçlar doğrultusunda özel güvenlik görevlilerinden bir yetenek havuzu oluşturulması ve depremlere hazırlık sürecinde eğitim alması, tatbikatlara katılması ve ulusal/uluslararası depremlerde kısmi görev almasının sağlanarak tecrübe kazanması önerilmektedir

    A new technique for closure of pericardial defects: pericardial rug weave

    Background Pericardial defect that occurs after intrapericardial pneumonectomy can cause many fatal complications, and closing the defect with mesh is a widely used surgical method to prevent these complications.Methods Data of patients who underwent intrapericardial pneumonectomy and pericardial resection in our clinic between October 2010 and June 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups, those who had prolene mesh used to close the pericardial defect and those who underwent the Rug Weave technique we proposed as an alternative, and the results were compared.Results The study included 23 patients, one of whom was female. All patients underwent surgery due to malignancy. The vast majority of the patients had a diagnosis of squamous cell lung carcinoma (86.9%). Atrium was added to three patients and rib resection was added to one patient during intrapericardial pneumonectomy and pericardial resection. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of average age, gender, and length of hospital stay. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of complications, including atrial fibrillation, which is commonly seen in these patients (p = 0.795). The Rug Weave group had an average defect width of 23.96 cm2 and was found to be advantageous in terms of overall survival compared to the mesh group (p = 0.017).Conclusions The Rug Weave technique we proposed for closing pericardial defects after pneumonectomy can be used as a cheaper method safely and effectively that reduces complications as much as the traditional method of using mesh

    Chromosome-specific barcode system with centromeric repeat in cultivated soybean and wild progenitor

    Wild soybean Glycine soja is the progenitor of cultivated soybean Glycine max. Information on soybean functional centromeres is limited despite extensive genome analysis. These species are an ideal model for studying centromere dynamics for domestication and breeding. We performed a detailed chromatin immunopre-cipitation analysis using centromere-specific histone H3 protein to delineate two distinct centromeric DNA sequences with un-usual repeating units with monomer sizes of 90–92 bp (CentGm-1) and 413-bp (CentGm-4) shorter and longer than standard nu-cleosomes. These two unrelated DNA sequences with no sequence similarity are part of functional centromeres in both species. Our results provide a comparison of centromere properties between a cultivated and a wild species under the effect of the same kinetochore protein. Possible sequence homogenization specific to each chromosome could highlight the mechanism for evolutionary conservation of centromeric properties independent of domestication and breeding. Moreover, a unique barcode system to track each chromosome is developed using CentGm-4 units.     Detection and Segmentation of Subdural Hemorrhage on Head CT Images

    In today's world, there has been a significant increase in the diversity of data sources and the volume of data. This situation especially necessitates the use of technologies such as deep learning in data processing. This study thoroughly examines the processing of computed tomography (CT) images with deep learning models and their role in the diagnosis of brain hemorrhages, proposing an innovative deep learning-based model for accurately detecting and segmenting brain hemorrhages. This model combines the architectures of Mask Scoring R-CNN and EfficientNet-B2, offering an effective approach for the detection and classification of brain hemorrhages. MS R-CNN is used to detect potential hemorrhage areas in CT images, while the EfficientNet-B2 architecture serves a classification function to determine whether these areas indeed contain hemorrhages. Thus, the model offers a two-stage verification process that enhances accuracy and precision. The performance of the model has been evaluated under patient-based and random partitioning techniques using by employing two distinct datasets: an open-access and a private. In patient-based evaluation, the proposed model has an accuracy of %91.59 on open dataset and an accuracy of %90.46 on private dataset for SDH hemorrhages. In the random partitioning method, the model's accuracy rate has risen to %94.30 on open dataset and %97.33 on private dataset. Compared with similar studies in the literature, these results demonstrate that the model has a high level of accuracy and reliability. This study highlights the potential and importance of AI-supported methods in the detection of brain hemorrhages and provides a solid foundation for future work in this area. Additionally, the results obtained from an open dataset by the proposed model offer a realistic and comparable reference for future work in this field. The results obtained from a second data set also clearly demonstrate the validity of the model

    Understanding possible personal correlates of organizational citizenship behavior: Mindfulness and oneness behaviors

    The current study aims to understand the mechanisms underlying the predictive relationship between mindfulness and organizational citizenship behaviors especially targeted for other individuals inside the organizations. As part of this relationship model, oneness behaviors were suggested as an actor of mediation. A sample of 281 blue collar employees participated for the study with employing a multi-source data gathering method. In line with the self-regulation and Buddhist based conceptualizations, and previous related research, statistical analyses revealed significant effects of mindfulness on organizational citizenship behavior towards individuals (OCBI) after controlling demographic variables, and showed fully mediated roles of one and other sub dimensions in mindfulness-OCBI interaction. The current study brings a novel approach to mindfulness and organizational citizenship relationship by including oneness behaviors inside the research model while stressing the importance of interconnectedness and how it could be practiced inside the organizations

    Relationships between science teachers' career stage perceptions, teacher subjective well-beings and teacher mindsets

    Eğitim Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Matematik ve Fen Bilimleri Eğitimi Ana Bilim Dalı, Fen Bilgisi Eğitimi Bilim DalıBu çalışmanın amacı 2022 yılında yapılan öğretmenlik kariyer basamakları uygulaması hakkında fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin algılarını belirlemek, öğretmen öznel iyi oluş ve öğretmen zihniyet düzeylerinin kariyer basamakları algısı üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada mevcut durumları, şartları ve özellikleri olduğu gibi ortaya koymaya çalışıldığı için betimsel tarama yöntemi ve değişkenler arasındaki ilişkileri ve kariyer basamakları algısına etkilerini bulmak için ilişkisel araştırma yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmada hedef evren, Niğde ili Merkez ve Bor ilçelerinde görev yapan fen bilimleri öğretmeleri olarak belirlenmiştir. Örneklem seçiminde seçkisiz olmayan örnekleme yöntemlerinden amaçlı örnekleme kullanılmıştır. Ortaokullar ziyaret edilerek anket formları 61 fen bilimleri öğretmenine ulaştırılmıştır. Taşkaya (2007) ve Ural'ın (2007) çalışmalarından geliştirilen Öğretmen Kariyer Basamakları Algı Ölçeği, Ergün ve Sezgin Nartgün'ün (2017) Öğretmen Öznel İyi Oluş Ölçeği ve Şimşek'in (2022) Öğretmen Zihniyeti Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin kariyer basamakları algısı, öğretmen öznel iyi oluş (okul bağlılığı ve öğretim yeterliği alt boyutları ile) düzeyleri ve öğretmen zihniyet (sabit ve gelişen zihniyet alt boyutları ile) durumları belirlenmiş; birbirleriyle ilişkilendirilmiş ve öğretmen öznel iyi oluş ve öğretmen zihniyet düzeylerinin kariyer basamakları algısına olan etkileri değerlendirilmiştir. Fen bilimleri öğretmenlerin kariyer basamakları algısının düşük; öğretmen öznel iyi oluş düzeylerinin ortadan yüksek (okul bağlılığı boyutunda ortadan yüksek ve öğretim yeterliği boyutunda yüksek); öğretmen zihniyet düzeyinin orta düzeyden daha fazla (sabit zihniyet boyutunun orta düzeyden yüksek ve gelişen zihniyet boyutunda yüksek) olduğu görülmüştür. Öğretmen öznel iyi oluş puanlarıyla öğretmen zihniyeti ve kariyer basamakları algı puanları arasında pozitif yönde orta düzeyde anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Öğretmen zihniyeti puanlarıyla da kariyer basamakları algı puanları arasında benzer ilişki saptanmıştır. Öznel iyi oluşun okul bağlılığı ve öğretim yeterliliği boyut puanları ile hem öğretmen zihniyetinin gelişen zihniyet boyut puanları hem de kariyer basamakları algı puanları arasında pozitif yönde orta düzeyde anlamlı bir ilişkiye rastlanmıştır. Öğretmen zihniyetinin sabit zihniyet boyutu puanları ise sadece kariyer basamakları algı puanları ile ilişkili bulunmuştur. Bu ilişki pozitif yönde orta düzeylidir. Öğretmen öznel iyi oluşu ve öğretmen zihniyeti alt boyut puanlarının (bağımsız değişkenler) kariyer basamakları algı (bağımlı değişken) puanlarını pozitif yönde anlamlı bir şekilde yordadığı bulunmuştur Boyutlardan sadece öğretmen öznel iyi oluşun okul bağlılığı alt boyutu bağımlı değişkenin anlamlı yordayıcısıdır. Çalışmaya göre fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin kariyer basamaklarına yönelik düşük düzeyde olan algıları yükseltilmelidir. Öğretmenler öznel iyi oluş bakımından istenen düzeydedir özellikle öğretim yeterliği bakımından kendine güvenmektedir. Öğretmen zihniyeti bakımından öğretmenler hem sabit hem de gelişen zihniyet boyuttan yüksek puan almışlardır. Gelişen zihniyet boyutu puanları öznel iyi oluş boyut puanlarıyla ilişkili bulunduğundan gelişen zihniyetin kariyer basamakları algısıyla beklenen ilişkisi maalesef çıkmamış sabit zihniyetin kariyer basamakları algısıyla ilişkili çıkması dikkati çekmiştir. Öğretmenlere gelişen zihniyet boyutundaki puanlarını geliştirmeye yönelik uygulamaların yapılması öğretmen öznel iyi oluş düzeyini geliştirecek ancak kariyer basamakları algısını geliştiremeyecektir. Öğretmen öznel iyi oluşu ve zihniyeti boyutlarının özellikle okul bağlılığı puanlarının kariyer basamakları algısını tek başına yordaması nedeniyle okul bağlılığını artırıcı etkinlikler konusunda öğretmenlere destek verilmelidir. Sabit zihniyet boyutunun kariyer basamakları algısıyla ilişkisinin nedenini araştırılabilir. Since the study tried to reveal the current situations, conditions and characteristics as they are, the descriptive survey method and relational research method were used to find the relationships between variables and their effects on the perception of career stages. The target population in this research was determined as science teachers working in the Central and Bor districts of Niğde province. Purposive sampling one of the non-random sampling methods, was used in sample selection. Middle schools were visited and survey forms were delivered to 61 science teachers. Career Stage Perception Scale developed from the studies of Taşkaya (2007) and Ural (2007); Teacher Subjective Well-Being Scale adapted by Ergün and Sezgin Nartgün (2017), and Teacher Mindset Scale adapted by Şimşek (2022) were applied to teachers. Science teachers' perception of career stages, teacher subjective well-being (with sub-dimensions of school engagement and teaching competence) and teacher mindset (with sub-dimensions of fixed and growing mindset) were determined; were correlated with each other and the effects of teacher subjective well-being and teacher mindset levels on the perception of career stages were evaluated. Science teachers' perception of career stages is low; teacher subjective well-being levels are moderately high (medium-high in the school engagement dimension and high in the teaching efficacy dimension); It was observed that the teacher's mindset level was higher than the medium level (the fixed mindset dimension was higher than the medium level and the growth mindset dimension was higher). A positive, moderately significant relationship was found between teacher subjective well-being scores and teacher mentality and career stages perception scores. A similar relationship was found between teacher mentality scores and career stages perception scores. A positive, moderately significant relationship was found between the school engagement and teaching efficacy dimension scores of subjective well-being and both the growth mindset dimension scores of teacher mentality and career stages perception scores. Fixed mindset dimension scores of teacher mentality were found to be related only to career stages perception scores. This relationship is positive and moderate. It was found that teacher subjective well-being and teacher mentality sub dimension scores (independent variables) significantly predicted career stages perception (dependent variable) scores in a positive way. Among the dimensions, only the school engagement sub-dimension of teacher subjective well-being is a significant predictor of the dependent variable. According to the study, science teachers' low level of perception regarding career stages should be increased. Teachers are at the desired level in terms of subjective well being, and they are especially confident in terms of teaching competence. In terms of teacher mindset, teachers received high scores from both fixed and growth mindset dimensions. Since the growth mindset dimension scores were found to be related to the subjective well being dimension scores, unfortunately, the expected relationship between the growth mindset and the perception of career stages was not found, but the fixed mindset was found to be associated with the perception of career ladders. Implementing practices aimed at improving teachers' scores in the growth mindset dimension will improve the teacher's subjective well-being level but will not improve the perception of career stages. Since teacher subjective well-being and mentality dimensions, especially school engagement scores, alone predict the perception of career stages, teachers should be supported in activities that increase school engagement. The reason for the relationship between the fixed mindset dimension and the perception of career ladders can be investigated.     Impact of Ethics Education on Nursing Students' Ethical Sensitivity and Patient Advocacy: A Quasi-Experimental Study

    Nurses who try to reduce inequalities in health care by defending individuals they care for should be able to perceive ethical situations sensitively as patient advocates. This study aimed to examine the effects of ethics education provided to nursing students on ethical sensitivity and patient advocacy. The study adopted a pre-test, post-test, one-group quasi-experimental design and was conducted at a public university in Turkey. The sample comprised 44 nursing students taking the Professional Ethics course. Data were collected from October 13, 2021, to January 6, 2022, using a Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire, and the Patient Advocacy Scale for Nurses. The study was approved by an ethics committee. While no significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test mean Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire scores (t = 0.426, p > 0.05), a significant difference was noted between the total mean Patient Advocacy Scale for Nurses scores (Z = - 2.443, p < 0.05). The findings showed that ethics education provided to the nursing students did not affect ethical sensitivity but increased patient advocacy

    Pitfalls of social media for aesthetic eye surgery patients: assessing YouTube's aesthetic canthoplasty content

    PurposeYouTube, a popular source for diverse information, hosts a wealth of content on aesthetic canthoplasty. Yet, concerns linger about the accuracy and reliability of these videos, with potential for inaccuracies, biases, or misleading information. This study aims to evaluate the quality and reliability of YouTube content on this sought-after facial enhancement procedure.MethodsThe study employs four distinct scoring tools: the Global Quality Score (GQS), the Medical Quality Video Evaluation Tool (MQ-VET), the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool for Audiovisual Materials (PEMAT-A/V), and the Video Power Index (VPI).ResultsAnalysis of a total of 173 YouTube videos relevant to aesthetic canthoplasty revealed scores that were primarily indicative of poor quality and reliability.(Mean score +/- SD, PEMAT A/V: 30.75 +/- 28.8, MQ-VET: 28.57 +/- 12.6, GQS: 1.7 +/- 1) Notably, these videos were predominantly uploaded by healthcare professionals (82.1%), and they focused more on advertisements (46.2%) than on scientific or educational information. Their elevated viewership and engagement metrics (likes, comments, and shares) attest to their significant popularity and influence. (Mean VPI score: 176.6 +/- 635.8).ConclusionYouTube's influence on aesthetic eyelid surgery is undeniable, shaping patient choices and expectations. However, unrealistic beauty ideals, heightened body dissatisfaction, and social comparisons lurk within its content, potentially harming psychological well-being and surgical decisions. Prioritizing qualified medical guidance and critical evaluation of online information are crucial for patients.     Evaluation of the Association of Serum Sclerostin and Carotid Intima Media Thickness with Chronic Kidney Failure and Kidney Transplantation

    Purpose: This study aimed to determine the serum sclerostin levels in kidney transplant recipients, dialysis patients, and patients with non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD), and evaluate their associations with carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and carotid artery plaque presence. Methods: The study groups included kidney transplant recipients (n = 61), dialysis patients (n = 43), non-dialysis CKD patients (n = 43), and healthy controls (n = 19). Serum sclerostin levels were measured by the ELISA method. All participants underwent imaging tests for the evaluations of CIMT and carotid plaque presence. Results: Serum sclerostin levels were highest in dialysis patients, followed by the non-dialysis CKD group. Kidney transplant patients and healthy controls had the lowest sclerostin levels. There was a positive correlation between CIMT and sclerostin levels in the CKD group. Sclerostin levels were significantly high in individuals with calcified plaques. Conclusion: The CIMT and serum sclerostin levels of kidney transplant recipients compared to those of CKD patients with and without dialysis may suggest that transplantation may prevent further atherosclerosis, with sclerostin levels promising a predictive role. © 2024, Taiwan Society of Geriatric Emergency & Critical Care Medicine.Scientific Research Projects Commission, (161518020
