2018 caused damage to buildings, furniture, and artifacts of the National
Museum of Ethnology, Osaka. On the day of the earthquake, the most urgent
task in the storage zone was response to water leakage at general storage
No.3, which was caused by a sprinkler head being discharged on the exhibition
floor above. From the next day onward, drying of water damaged artifacts,
re-examination of artifacts around flooded storage racks, and treatment
of a small number of artifacts with mold were the main emphasis. A damage
survey of all storage rooms was conducted by a group of three: a person in
charge of inspection, a person taking photographs, and a third taking notes.
The survey includes water-damaged, broken, fallen, toppled over, or moved
artifacts as well as a loosening of fixing cords. In the case of furniture, the
survey emphasized the shifting of storage racks and opening of the drawers.
Although a tendency was clear by which storage in upper areas tended to be
damaged to a great degree, the position of the storage and the arrangement
orientation of storage racks were not clearly related to the damage magnitude.
However, raised edges and fall prevention bars of storage shelves were
effective at preventing artifacts from falling. Paper boxes were effective in
reducing damage to flooded artifacts by absorbing the water. The museum
has been conducting storage reorganization since 2004 for improving
methods of storing artifacts and for efficient relocation. The effectiveness was
proved by the fact that artifacts were less likely to be damaged in the storage
areas where storage reorganization had been conducted. Based on experiences
and lessons from this earthquake, we aim to make a safer storage environment.departmental bulletin pape

Introduction : A Nationalism of Absence<Special Theme : Nationalism in Timor-Leste>
In this issue, our theme is nationalism in Timor-Leste (East Timor) from an
anthropological perspective. Timor-Leste is a nascent micronation that is
composed of many ethnic groups and has a complex history. In the sixteen
years since its independence, the nation as well as its nationalism has been
rapidly changing. Each chapter analyses this changing nationalism from a
different viewpoint. This chapter serves as an introduction and provides a
general summary of the distinctive features of nationalism in Timor-Leste.
Casting Timor-Leste against the background of Indonesia provides two
perspectives of nationalism in Timor-Leste. The first examines how Timor-
Leste has been affected causally by Indonesia. In this vein, I build upon the
work of B. Anderson to show the parallel between the Netherlands and
Indonesia on the one hand and Indonesia and Timor-Leste on the other.
Second, I ignore the time lag and compare the two pairs, examining Timor-
Leste against Indonesia as a mirror image of Indonesia against the
Netherlands. From this perspective, distinctive features are clarified: in
Timor-Leste, nationalism discourse has no ‘past glory’ (like Majapahit in
Indonesian nationalism discourse), nor does Timor-Leste have enemies
against whom it must struggle to regain its ‘past glory’. As a result, nationalism
in Timor-Leste can be called a ‘nationalism of absence’.この特集の目的は東ティモールのナショナリズムを人類学的に考察すること

prefer sweet foods and beverages from the perspective of historical ecology
of sugar, which has an important role in preference. The process of consolidating
sweet foods and beverages in Taiwan society and the changes of economic
structure and health consciousness are discussed using historical sugar
production records and ethnographic descriptions of foods recorded during
Japanese colonial periods (1895–1945). Taiwan has a historical ecology by
