    自由に話す:大学英語クラスの自己生成言語"フリートーク"活動

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper reports on an eight-week study of the frequency with which freshman university students, in free-talk warmup activities at the beginning of weekly English communication classes, use language studied and practiced during previous weeks' classes. It also reports on the students' reliance on basic questions, particularly "Do you like?" and "What __ do you like?/What's your favorite __?", during these warmup activities. The study found that there is a high reliance on such basic questions when first-year university students have the opportunity to converse on topics of their choice, with a somewhat lower tendency on their part to practice questions studied and learned in previous class sessions. This paper also explores low willingness to speak, learner anxiety, lack of in-class communicative opportunities, and disinterest in textbook topics as issues possibly affecting their language choices.journal articl

application/pdfIn order to investigate a criterion on failure mode of the RC beams flexural strengthened with FRP sheet under impact loading, falling-weight impact tests for RC beams strengthened with the AFRP sheet were carried out taking FRP sheet volume as variable. The results obtained from this study were as follows: (1) applying AFRP sheet bonding method, impact resistant capacity of the beams can be upgraded; however, (2) in the case of compression failure mode statically, the beams reach ultimate state with sheet rupturing; (3) in the case of sheet debonding failure mode statically, the beams reach ultimate state with sheet debonding.journal articl

3D Periodic-Sugoroku Game for Active Learning of the Periodic Table

application/pdfThe periodic table is an important set of scientific sym-bols that are not commonly used in everyday life but which may cause science phobia in youngsters. Many types of educational tools for learning the periodic table do not provide an opportunity to dis-cover the relationships between chemical elements. In this study, we propose a NEO GAME of sugoroku game involving a 3D periodic chart (i.e., periodic-sugoroku) for use as an educational tool. Sugoroku is a Japanese board game similar to Parcheesi or Monopo-ly. Using this proposed tool, students can actively learn the periodic chart while enjoying a sugoroku game.journal articl

High Temperature Erosive Wear Resistance of Overlay Welding Metal in Various Boiler Furnace Wall

In the circulating fluidized bed boiler, erosive wear is remarkable as compared with other boilers due to silica sand which is a combustion medium in the furnace. Therefore, in the past, at our company, high temperature blasting test was adopted to evaluate high temperature corrosion abrasion resistance of various overlay welding metals as a countermeasure against erosive wear in CFB boiler under high temperature environment. In this study, high-temperature blasting tests were conducted on new overlay welding metals of Ni and Fe based, which are not widely adopted in domestic applications other than boiler applications, and high temperature erosive resistance wear characteristics were investigated. As a result of this test, it was suggested that the overlay welding metals tested this time compared with Inconel 625 has a wear rate of 18 to 27% lower, which is possibly excellent in erosive resistance under high temperature environment. In the future, in order to simulate a boiler actual machine, in addition to high temperature erosion, we are looking for ways to evaluate the resistance to the environment such as chlorination and sulfurization and think that it is necessary to select the optimum welding metals according to the operating environment of each boiler.journal articl

CDLB: A Cross-Domain Load Balancing Mechanism for Software Defined Networks in Cloud Data Center

    Get PDF
application/pdfCurrently, cross-domain load balancing is one of the core issues for software defined networks (SDN) in cloud data centre, which can optimise resource allocation. In this paper, we propose a cross-domain load balancing mechanism, CDLB, based on Extensive Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) for SDN in cloud data centre. Different from poll method, XMPP based push model is introduced in the proposed scheme, which can avoid wasting network and computing resources in large-scale distributed network environment. The proposed scheme enables all the controllers in the flat distributed control plane to share the same consistent global-view network information in real time through XMPP and XMPP publish/subscribe extension. Thus, the problem of non-real time information synchronisation can be resolved and cross-domain load balancing can be realised. The simulations show the efficiency of the proposed scheme.journal articl

AAIoT: Accelerating Artificial Intelligence in IoT Systems

    Get PDF
application/pdfExisting deep learning systems in the Internet of Things (IoT) environments lack the ability of assigning compute tasks reasonably which leads to resources wasting. In this letter, we propose an AAIoT, a method to allocate the inference computation of each network layer to each device in multi-layer IoT system. To our best knowledge, this is the first attempt to solve this problem. We design a dynamic programming algorithm to minimize the response time when weighing the cost of computation and transmission. Simulation results show that our approach makes significant improvements in system response time.journal articl

Sustainable Secure Management Against APT Attacks for Intelligent Embedded-Enabled Smart Manufacturing

    Get PDF
application/pdfIntelligent embedded-enable smart manufacturing is an important infrastructure for future industries. Increasing security threats are disturbing the normal operations of smart manufacturing. As a novel type of threat, an advanced persistent threat (APT) has the novel features of strong concealment, latency, and long-term entanglement, which can penetrate the core systems of smart manufacturing, especially for intelligent embedded systems, and cause great destruction from the cyber side to physical side. However, the existing security schemes cannot provide sustainable resource management, which causes the core system in smart manufacturing not to perform sustainable secure detection and defense against APTs. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a sustainable secure management mechanism for smart manufacturing against APTs. The proposed mechanism includes two parts: sustainable threat intelligence analysis and sustainable secure resource management. Sustainable threat intelligence analysis provides sustainable discovery of the indications of potential APTs, which has features of a weak signal, low correlation, and slow time variation. The sustainable secure resource management provides deep and continuous protection for intelligent embedded systems in smart manufacturing. The evaluations show the defense capabilities and the feasibility of the proposed mechanism.journal articl

Mechano- and Photoresponsive Behavior of a Bis(cyanostyryl)benzene Fluorophore

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe mechanoresponsive behaviour and photochemical response of a new bis(cyanostyryl)benzene fluorophore (CSB-5) were investigated. Green fluorescence with λem,max of 507 nm was found for CSB-5 in chloroform solution, mirroring the behaviour of a previously reported similar dye (CSB-6).On the other hand, crystalline samples of CSB-5 exhibited orange fluorescence with λem,max of 620 nm, attributable to excimer emission.Although the emission color change was not clearly noticeable by naked eye, CSB-5 exhibited mechanochromic luminescence, due to transformation into the amorphous state upon grinding the crystalline powder.Interestingly, rubbed films of CSB-5 prepared on glass substrates exhibited a pronounced emission color change from orange to green when exposed to UV light. This response is the result of a photochemical reaction that occurs in the amorphous state and which causes a decrease of the excimer emission sites so that the emission color changes from excimer to monomer. The crystalline material did not display such a photoinduced emission color change and the difference in photochemical reactivity between crystalline and amorphous states was exploited to pattern the emission color of rubbed films.journal articl
