Research of Child Care Person Training Education at 4-year University "Professional awareness" and "Self-confidence" in child care practice experience in day-care centers
P(論文)In 2003 the Department of Social Welfare program of clinical social work at Kyushu University of Health and Welfare (KUHW) began a course in child care practice. The course provides instruction in child care social work and helps prepare students to qualify for the national child care license. This research evaluates the effectiveness of the KUHW child care social work program from 2003 until 2005 in its role, in assisting students become more professionally aware, and increasing their self-confidence in the practice of child care.departmental bulletin pape
Expression patterns of the Clq receptor (ClqRp) on the granulocytes and monocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with liver diseases
Human C1qRp, a receptor for complement component 1, subcomponent q (C1q), was shown to be selectively expressed by cells of myeloid lineage, was originally reported to be involved in the C1q-mediated enhancement of phagocytosis. However, its expression patterns on the granulocytes and monocytes in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from patients with various diseases are still not well understood. In this study, focusing on the clinical significance of the expression of this receptor in patients with chronic liver diseases, we demonstrated the expression patterns of C1qRp on the granulocytes and monocytes in PBMCs prepared from patients with some liver diseases, using the C1qRp monoclonal antibody (mAb) mNI-11 and flow cytometry. Analysis of the expression patterns (percentage of expression) of C1qRp on the granulocytes of patients with liver cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis B or C and hepatocellular carcinoma revealed a significantly reduced expression of this receptor in these patients as compared with that in normal healthy donors (P<0.01, P<0.01 and P<0.01, respectively). On the other hand, in relation to the expression of C1qRp on the peripheral blood monocytes in patients with liver diseases, while the expression was significantly decreased in the cells of patients with liver cirrhosis as compared with that of normal healthy donors (P<0.01), the expression levels in the cells of patients with chronic hepatitis B or C and hepatocellular carcinoma were not significantly different from those of normal healthy donors (P=0.079 and P=0.534, respectively). Taken together, these findings indicate that the expression of C1qRp on the granulocytes or monocytes was, in general, decreased in patients with liver diseases, but more significantly so in patients with liver cirrhosis.departmental bulletin pape
On the rat with closed eyelids 2. Anophthalmos
P(論文)Many anomalies of the visual system, bilateral anophthalmos, unilateral anophthalmos and optic nerve degeneration seem to be closely related to microphthalmos were found in KUHW-rats derived from a Wistar strain inbred colony. Nevertheless the rats have no recognizable eye and optic nerve in both sides were completely missing, their eyelids and optic tracts were present in anophthalmos rats. Diffuse axonal degeneration of the optic nerve on the affected side and contra-lateral optic tract were observed in microphthalmos rats. Breeding and morphological studies were undertaken to determine the nature of the ocular defect, as well as its cause and pathogenesis. These anomalies were found to be inherited as an autosomal recessive trait with variable expressivity. The studies of the prenatal morphogenesis of the microphthalmos suggested that the primary disorder reflects a disturbance of the neuroepithelium of the retinal anlage and results in defective early formation of the optic cup. Microphthalmos and anophthalmos are congenital ocular malformations that may create eyelid malformations because of the absence of the globe's trophic effects on the growth of the lids and orbit. It is particularly relevant in understanding the pathogenesis of microphthalmos in the human eye.departmental bulletin pape
Effects of recreational activities and foot bath care on elderly individuals in need of care
P(論文)The present study investigated the effects of enjoyable recreational activities and foot bath care accompanied by acupoint stimulation on the activities of daily living(ADL), motivation, mood, and daily living of elderly individuals residing in a long-term care insurance facility and in need of medium-level care. The present investigation was conducted once a week for 3 months on 6 elderly individuals over the age of 75 and in need of level 2-4 care. The results of a mood assessment using a face scale differed according to the intervention the individuals received; however, no changes were observed in the assessments of ADL and motivation throughout the investigation period. Transcripts of elderly individuals' free descriptions of their daily life conditions revealed that most looked forward to participating in the investigation. According to nursing personnel, those who attended the program "smile more, and have brighter facial expressions." The results of the present study suggest that recreational activities and foot bath care with acupoint stimulation were effective nursing methods for improving the living conditions of elderly individuals residing in a long-term care insurance facility. However, as no changes were observed in evaluation categories requiring muscular strength, such as ADL and transfer activities, the results indicate that the activities investigated in the present study may be more effective in combination with other muscular rehabilitation methods. Furthermore, only a few preceding studies on elderly individuals over the age of 75 and in need of a higher level of care are currently available. Therefore, further studies on contents and methods of evaluation for such individuals are required.departmental bulletin pape
Regarding Social Work for the Elderly in Nursing Homes
P(論文)A nursing home is the place where the life support service is offered to elderly residents needing of social work intervention. The residents of nursing homes are elderly people with physical and mental handicaps. They have to depend on some case for 'Activities of Daily Living(ADL)'-eating, bathing, toileting, transfer and so on. Therefore, a social worker supporting the daily living of residents must respect their dignity and individual identities. A social worker has help residents adapt to the nursing home, which is new living environment for them. The role and purpose of the social worker is to support elderly residents to let them regain 'their own self', and to let them live the life with dignity.departmental bulletin pape
The necessity of Death Education to human service professionals (III) : Concentrating on the Second Separation Individuation Process of Adolescence
P(論文)The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of Death Education program on the view of life and death and borderline tendency in adolescence. Ninety university students took part in the program and then completed questionnaires with regard to attitude towards death and borderline tendency. The results demonstrated the notion of fulfilling life and deficiency of interpersonal relationship significantly improved. Hence it is necessary to examine the influence of the Death Education on ego identity diffusion, ego identity status and so forth.departmental bulletin pape
Reconsidering the principle of normalization
P(論文)Recently, "normalization" became one of the popular terms of the social service in Japan. "Normalization" is the view that people who undertake disadvantage socially, such as a disabled person and elderly people, realize society which can exercise a right equivalent to a local daily life. It was thought as the paradigm alter the old and conventional mode of Japanese social welfare. However, the principle of normalization seems not to be understood itself often precisely. In this research, we tried to reconsider the principle of normalization that was introduced in '80s. We read the true meaning of "normalization" into the claim of various theorists of those days, when reconsidering the principle of normalization. Their claim had aimed at right protection and independence support. This paper suggests that it is important to return to the true meaning of normalization for development of social welfare of Japan.departmental bulletin pape
