Research on Teacher Attitudes toward Child Abuse (2) : A Preliminary Analysis on the Teachers' Occupational Socialization
P(論文)The purpose of this article is to examine teacher attitudes toward gender and children in relation to their socialization by an analysis of questionnaires to teachers, as a part of our collaborative research on teacher attitudes toward child abuse. We conducted our research during July 2005. A total of 479 teachers in the northern part of the Miyazaki Prefecture responded to the questionnaire. Questions are about their attitudes toward child abuse, gender, children and family, their past and present experiences, and so on. The findings are as follows: female and younger teachers tend to perceive male hegemony, male or management teachers tend to deny compatibility of job and childcare for females; female teachers see children as the active agents, male teachers see them as subordinate agents; regression analysis revealed some relationships between their attitudes and past experiences. We discuss the results in terms of structures of teacher groups and gender/power differentiation of attitudes towards gender and children, as the basis of their attitudes toward child abuse.departmental bulletin pape
The propriety of separation examination in manual muscle testing
P(論文)The validity of the isolation test in manual muscle testing was investigated. The flexion force of the knee joint was measured for the following leg positions: lateral rotation, mid position and medial rotation. The results showed that muscle strength was the highest for lateral rotation, followed by mid position, and medial rotation, in this order (11.08, 10.69 and 9.68kg, respectively). If the flexion force of the knee joint in mid position is the sum of medial and lateral rotators, then flexion force should be highest in mid position, but this did not hold true. Also, if the activities of medial rotators are suppressed in lateral rotation, then flexion force should be decreased by the degree of suppression, but this did not hold true. The same applies to medial rotation. Hence, the isolation test in manual muscle testing lacks validity.departmental bulletin pape
Temporal analysis of L2 one-syllable word and nonword repetition : Exploratory case studies
This paper reports the results of three case studies of immediate repetition and measurements of temporal features, particularly response duration and latency with second language learners. The purpose of this exploratory experiment was to determine if we could find a relationship between duration and latency at the individual participant level, using both real words and nonwords. Secondly, spectrographic analysis of responses is a highly labor intensive activity, which makes measurement of responses difficult in larger studies. An exploratory experiment would indicate the potential of measuring responses in larger studies. Finally, we sought to find phonotactic effects at the individual level. Combining the three cases together we found consistent evidence that both duration and latency were related to errors and that nonword stimuli were more difficult to produce than real-word stimuli. This paper also reflects on future investigation of temporal analysis with immediate repetition.departmental bulletin pape
Concerning the necessity for the Death Education among human service professionals (II) : Deployment in a "social work practicing
P(論文)The present study examined the effect of simulated experience-based death education program in social work practice. Each session of the program took two hours, and there were four sessions (eight hours) in total. Ninety university students enrolled in social work practicing. The first session was a lecture and group work in terminal care. Then a care plan was developed from the case study of the previous session. The third session was simulated experience training, and then a care plan based on the simulated experience was developed in the final session. As a result of this program, the subjects realized not only their lack of knowledge and skills for human services but also the importance of support from the view point of the service user. In order to facilitate the training program more effectively, the following three points are proposed; 1. Clarify the concept of death. 2. Develop an effective method for social work practice. 3. Select the proper time and period for the program. The social work practice course, allocated 120hours, is essential for becoming a professional human service worker. Therefore a variety of effective training programs is necessary. This study suggests that a death education program is an essential educational program for those in human services.departmental bulletin pape
A Study on the first step program for the volunteer activities
P(論文)In the stream of educational reforms in Japan, there is a need for universities to give students opportunities to volunteer. For this purpose, we the Volunteer Center of Kyusyu University of Health and Welfare, started a program of volunteer activities for our students with the help of area social welfare councils. In spite of some difficulties, such as the timing of the program and the small number of participants, the students gained a great deal of experience. Particularly, our program had a study and training period before the activities, and also after the activities. We also had meetings for students to express how they felt about experiences. This was very different from typical volunteer activities. Although the program lasted only seven days, this program was the first step for our students toward independent volunteer activities.departmental bulletin pape
Pharmacy Volunteer Program Giving the Students the Opportunity for Character Enrichment
P(論文)We believe that, if students can participate in activities in the local community voluntarily and continuously, it would be a great opportunity for character enrichment through various experiences that cannot be obtained in the university life. Working as a volunteer (early experience study) in a pharmacy and the like would give students an opportunity to learn the basic knowledge, skills and comportment to become a pharmaceutical specialist, or a chance to imagine his/her own future as a pharmacist. We developed a pharmacy volunteer program for students to participate voluntarily so that students can learn the proper behaviors in dealing with people and also have a chance to become familiar with the ethics of medical profession. We investigated the effect of academic year of the participating students on their willingness to learn (active behavior, observation items at the pharmacy) in the pharmacy volunteer program. In the program, a student could participate for 5 days in principle, but he/she was allowed to repeat the program. It was recognized that second year students demonstrated more active behavior than the first year students in the pharmacy volunteer program (including group working). This result would suggest that the pharmacy volunteer program induces more voluntary actions by the students by combining their pharmaceutical knowledge with real experience at the pharmacy, giving the students the opportunity for character enrichment.departmental bulletin pape
The drawing development of normal children
P(論文)The purpose of the present study was to analyze the figures drawn by normal children in order to investigate the drawing development of normal children. Initially, 79 normal children aged 3-5 years were asked to draw a picture of a father. Using the grading scale of the Draw-A-Man (DAM) test, a childcare professional evaluated the children's pictures. The results indicated that while two 3-year-old children were not able to draw a figure, the remaining 3-year-old children could draw 17 items on the DAM grading scale and primarily drew a face. In addition, the 4-year-old children were able to draw 27 items, but they did not draw the man's trunk, and while the 5-year-old children were able to draw 31 items, they were not only able to draw the trunk, but also drew small parts, such as clothes or glasses, in detail. The present results clarified the features of drawing development in normal children. However, it remains necessary to examine in detail the relationship between children's drawing development and language development.departmental bulletin pape
Triplet babies after fertility treatment by a 46,XY,t(12;13)(q24.3;q32) father
P(論文)We present triplet babies by a 46,XY,t(12;13)(q24.3;q32)father. The babies were the third pregnancy to healthy and unrelated parents. Conceived by fertility treatment (HMG-HCG therapy), they were born after a 31-week gestation by caesarean section. The first baby, a male infant, had a birth weight of 1,654g, and the same balanced translocation between chromosomes 12 and 13 as his father. The second baby, a female infant, with a birth weight of 878g died soon after her birth due to anencephaly. She showed a peculiar facial appearance accompanied by anencephaly including hypertelorism, narrow palpebral fissures, high nasal root, bulbous nose, micrognathia, and low-set ears. Her karyotype was 46,XX,der(12)t(12;i3) (q24.3;q32)pat, and she had a partial trisomy for 13q32→qter. The third baby, also female, had a birth weight of 1,446g and a normal karyotype. The phenotypes of the first and third babies were normal.departmental bulletin pape
A study of occupational therapy students' depression and stress coping during clinical practice
P(論文)The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the self-rating depression scale and the stress coping. We did questionnaire to 31 students before and after clinical practice. The result indicated that the female students felt the more depression than the male students. We categorized the stress coping strategies into 2 types, 8 subtypes. Especially Planful Problem Solving-type strategy was used by the students much more during clinical practice than before. We also found out that the 4 subtypes, Accepting Responsibility-type, Self Controlling-type, Distancing-type and Positive Reappraisal-type, affect depression.departmental bulletin pape
