A case of delayed language development exhibiting a specific development profile
Get PDFP(論文)A patient with delayed language development was assessed multiple times. A revaluation of the test results showed inter-test errors. There were also fluctuations in several lower test results. The language symptoms of this patient resembled SLI, and the patient appeared to have had atypical SLI. In such children, subsequent language development can be markedly affected by first securing a means for language expression, followed by escalation of language development. The fact that the test results varied was also an important piece of information. Hence, especially when signs of delayed development change to indicate improvements, it is necessary to accurately ascertain child development by combining multiple tests.departmental bulletin pape
Up-regulation of β_2-adrenergic receptor immunoreactivity in astrocytes in the spinal cord after dorsal rhizotomy
Get PDFP(論文)片側後根切除後1日から7日において、脊髄の後根侵入域及び後索におけるβ_2アドレナリン受容体(β_2AR)の分布様式の変化を免疫組織化学的に検索した。後根切除後2日において、術側のβ_2AR免疫活性は対側に比べて増加し、その増加は切除後7日において顕著であった。β_2AR免疫陽性細胞のほとんどはアストロサイトのマーカーであるGFAPや活性型アストロサイトのマーカーであるネスチンの免疫活性を示した。β_2AR免疫陽性細胞には、時々、増殖マーカーであるKi-67の免疫活性が認められた。β_2AR免疫陽性細胞には、しばしば、FGF-2の免疫活性の増加が認められた。後根切除によるβ_2AR免疫活性の増加及びβ_2AR免疫陽性細胞におけるGFAP、Ki-67、FGF-2の共存関係を考慮すると、脊髄損傷においてβ_2-ARはFGF-2合成を介してアストロサイトの増殖や活性化に関与している可能性が示唆された。Expression pattern of β_2-adrenergic receptor (β_2-AR) in the dorsal entry zone and dorsal funiculus was examined from 2 to 7 days after unilateral transection (rhizotomy) of the C4 and C5 dorsal roots. Rhizotomy induced a marked increase of β_2-AR immunoreactivity (IR) in the regions of the dorsal root entry zone and dorsal funiculus containing the central processes of injured primary sensory neurons. The expression of β_2-AR-IR in regions of the dorsal root entry zone and dorsal funiculus continued to increase with time. β_2-AR-immunoreactive cells co-expressed GFAP-IR and were positive for nestin, which is characteristic of reactive astrocytes. A population of β_2 -AR-immunoreactive cells was labeled with Ki-67, a marker of cell proliferation, indicating that some of them went into cell mitotic state. A subpopulation of β_2-AR-immunoreactive cells also exhibited FGF-2-IR. These findings suggest that β_2-AR may play important roles in astrocytic activation which is associated with the induction of synthesis of growth factor such as FGF-2.departmental bulletin pape
The trend of the adult user judging from the use of the foreign consultation system : Needs of the language hearing person and future problem
Get PDFP(論文)Some previous studies have reported on the use of "HELLO", a consultation system provided to outpatients in our speech therapy department, and resulted in system improvements When our consultation system first began, most or our users were children with speech and hearing impairments from the Nobeoka area. However, in recent years adult users of the system have increases. One reason for this increase may be due to the Revision of Medical Repayment Standards in April 2006. Under this new standard, adult patients can no longer receive continuing training from medical institutions. In this paper, we report on the process and results of clinical training (articulation and swallowing training) that we provide for an adult patient with tongue cancer, who had undergone a bilateral neck dissection. Because this patient wished to communicate with many people, students from our department participated in articulation training. Also, a speech therapist from our department provided swallowing training in cooperation with local medical institutions. We observed that as training sessions progressed this patient became more eager to participate. Also, he seemed to become more positive about his future and about social rehabilitation. As a result, this led to improved QOL (quality of life) for the patient and his family. This case illustrates the need for close collaboration with medical institutions and sharing information about the condition of patients and the need to illuminate public understanding.departmental bulletin pape
