A consideration on the role of day nursery in advancing cooperation in child-rearing
P(論文)In present day Japan, child rearing is relatively isolated activity, as a result child-rearing difficulties such as maternal anxiety and child abuse have become serious problems. It is necessary to share the responsibility of child-rearing in the whole society and to advance cooperation in child-rearing to solve these problems. In this paper, it is pointed out that creating a situation in which a child grows up not only with its own parents, but also with support from other sources is useful for advancing cooperation in child-rearing and that day nursery can function to help create this situation.departmental bulletin pape
Developing scales for measuring the counseling-based communication skills of personal assistants working at centers for independent living: a literature review
P(論文)In this study, to develop scales for measuring the counseling-based communication skills of personal assistant working at Centers for Independent Living, we used the findings from previous studies to examine the development policy and sub-areas that constitute the scales. In a previous study, one of the potential problems classified as "the difficulty for the users to express their wishes owing to their disabilities" suggested the relevance of personal assistants' counseling-based communication skills. On the other hand, a report from the U.S.A. referred to the necessity of training personal assistant in skills to listen effectively, communicate, and delegation. Although these skills have much in common with counseling-based communication skills, scales for measuring these have not yet been developed in Japan. To develop such scales, the results of our study suggest that it is necessary to define the constituent areas, collect the items within them, and examine their construct and cross validities through factor analysis, giving consideration of the ideology of an Independent Living movement.departmental bulletin pape
Accuracy of step count of five pedometers under free-living conditions
The purpose of this study was to investigate accuracy of step count of the 5 pedometers under free-living conditions. Seven young subjects wore two pedometers for 5 days, excluding bath and sleep time. One of the two pedometers, the Lifecorder (LC, Suzuken Co.) was worn on the right side of the waist for 5 days as a criterion. Each subject wore one of the five pedometers randomly for one day each. The 3 waist-type pedometers (EC-200; Yamasa tokei, Welsupport; Nipro Co., HJA-350IT; Omron Co.) were worn on the left side of the waist. A wrist-type pedometer (HK-800; Yamasa tokei) was worn on the right wrist. A pocket-in-type pedometer (HJ-710; Omron Co.) was kept in the left pocket of the subject's trousers. The daily steps of the LC were 6,123+/-2,027 counts (range: 1,974-15,815). Comparing with LC, a significant difference in the daily steps were found using the HJ-710 (p<0.001) and the HJA-350IT (p<0.05). We predicted that the accuracy of HJ-710 was low because the pocket-in pedometer moved in the pocket. However, it is unclear why the daily steps measured by HJA-350IT were significantly low. We concluded that a high accurate pedometer must be used to measure daily physical activity.departmental bulletin pape
Implementation of workshop for pharmacists on confirmation of vital signs and attitude survey of participating pharmacists
P(論文)A lifelong educational workshop for pharmacists on vital signs was convened. In the workshop, a lecture on the confirmation of vital signs as well as actual measurements of the blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, blood glucose level, and percutaneous oxygen saturation (SpO2), urinalysis, physical assessment (check of breath sounds, cardiac sounds, bowel sounds, electrocardiogram, and others), and experience of critical care and administering drugs during critical care (simulation) were conducted. The results of questionary on the workshop revealed that 83% of respondents replied that the workshop was informative. In addition, they had a very positive attitude toward the confirmation of vital signs by pharmacists. Institutions such as pharmaceutical colleges and other pharmacist related associations should actively introduce educational items on confirmation of the vital signs in career development workshops in the future. We hope that the results of this attitude survey contribute to lifelong educational workshops on vital signs which the pharmaceutical colleges or other pharmacist related associations.departmental bulletin pape
An examination of fluency using verbal and nonverbal tasks
P(論文)The purpose of this study was to examine the norms of category fluency (CF) and design fluency (DF) tasks in adults of two age groups, examine the effects of gender, age, and other factors on both fluency tasks, and examine the relationship between the fluency tasks. The subjects in the young age group were 19 healthy adults aged 20 - 29 years, while the subjects in the older age group were 14 healthy adults aged 65 - 74 years. In the CF task, an ANOVA revealed that main effects of age, category were significant. Also, the age-gender interaction and age-category interaction were significant. In the DF task, an ANOVA revealed that a main effect of age was significant. There was no significant correlation between the fluency tasks. These results suggest that : 1) Further study is needed to provide the norms of DF task ; 2) The effects of gender, age, category are found in the CF task ; 3) The total number of answers in the DF task decreases with age ; 4) The CF and DF tasks are qualitatively different.departmental bulletin pape
A study of depression and resilience among occupational therapy students during clinical practice
P(論文)The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between depression and resilience. Forty-four students completed a questionnaire following clinical practice. The results indicated that female students were more depressed than male students. We scaled resilience from three perspectives: self efficiency, social support, and sociality. We also assessed attitudes toward 8 situations as either positive or negative. We found that depression was significantly correlated with self efficiency and sociality. We also found that a positive attitude toward problem solving reduced depression.departmental bulletin pape
Predictors of trainee satisfaction with on-the-job-training in speech, language, and hearing therapy: text mining analysis
P(論文)Objective: We investigated satisfaction with on-the-job training among 129 speech, language, and hearing therapy trainees.Materials and methods: Text mining analysis was performed to analyze factors that influenced trainee satisfaction regarding on-the-job training. Results: Among trainees with higher satisfaction and higher grades, the training opportunity increased their internal locus of control through the knowledge and therapy skills acquired and the exchanges with trainers and other staff. However, trainees with lower satisfaction tended to cite external factors such as the length of training or the training format as the cause. Conclusion: Our results suggest that students with a lower internal locus of control need to experience many successes throughout an intramural simulated on-the-job training curriculum.departmental bulletin pape
Inhibition of tumor-associated antigens secreted from cancer cell lines by Taimatsu fermented rice germ solution containing inositol hexaphosphate (IP6)
Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6), a naturally polyphosphorylated carbohydrate, has been reported to have significant anticancer activity against numerous tumors, such as colon, prostate, breast, liver and rhabdomyosarcomas. Recently, we established a new IP6-containing solution, designated as T-IP6, produced by Taimatsu fermented rice germ. In this study, we examined the inhibitory effects of tumor-associated antigens secreted from a gastric cancer cell line (MKN-45) and a hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (HepG2) exposed to T-IP6. The tumor-associated antigens, such ascarcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonists-II (PIVKAII), secreted from these cancer cell lines cultured with T-IP6 were significantly inhibited (P<0.01), compared with those in control cells (cultured without T-IP6) at 72 hrs, and this inhibition was accompanied by morphological changes, respectively. In addition, T-IP6 inhibited CEA and PIVKA-II in a dose-dependent manner. These findings suggest that T-IP6 has an immunoinhibitory and normalization effect in human cancer cells.departmental bulletin pape
Practical Social Work Challenges in the Construction of Integrated Community Care Systems
P(論文)This study investigated the care management functionality of community-based social work and nursing-care insurance systems, aiming to clarify the challenges that must be addressed when constructing integrated community care systems. We identified an important question that must be addressed in the practice of integrated community care: How best to construct an environment favorable to the development of community social work and the implementation of care management? Social work conducted at a variety of levels-care management systems that take an individual approach on a micro scale, networking and custody systems that take an environment-based approach on a medium scale, and the construction of integrated community care systems as well as administrative activities, including the operation and management of these systems, on a macro scale-must function in an interconnected, synergistic manner. We concluded that cooperation across the various domains in which integrated community care systems are implemented is required, and that such systems must have strong connections with and have clear directions toward cooperation to ensure the continued operation of a system with numerous functions.departmental bulletin pape
