Viewpoints and roles of supporters in practices related to forms of work for mentally disabled people : Perspectives from staff at the independently self-managed 'Moe' Limited Company
No full textP(論文)Studies have found links between work and the recovery of people with mental disabilities, and support is expected in terms of proposals and practices for various forms of work. `Moe', a limited company independently managed by people with mental disabilities, operates in a commercial district by carrying out work that is rooted in the community. To clarify the perspectives and roles of supporters regarding Moe's proposals and practices, interviews were conducted with the staff of Moe and they were analysed using a revised grounded theory approach. The following results were obtained: (1) a mutual understanding of value consciousness, (2) reflection on the existing support system, (3) efforts to encourage the understanding of those involved, (4) construction of new roles, (5) calm judgement and a positive attitude, (6) escort for independent activities, (7) attainment of joy and a sense of fulfilment. These findings clarified that supporters at Moe had examined their own way of providing aid to the people with mental disabilities by interacting with them and the environment, and were able to eschew the welfare standpoint of those concerned, rethink ways of intervening on behalf of such individuals, and assume a steering role in proposals, practices and activities related to independent forms of work for those concerned.departmental bulletin pape
A Preliminary Study of a Cognitive Function Test for Dementia Patients with Hearing Impairment : A Written Version of the Mini-Mental State Examination
No full textP(論文)We developed a Japanese version of the written Mini-Mental Status Examination (wMMSE-J) for assessing the actual cognitive functions of dementia patients with hearing impairment and performed a preliminary test in 25 dementia patients (mean age 85.4 ± 7.9 years). Patients were divided into hearing impaired (17 patients) and non-hearing impaired groups (8 patients) on the basis of pure-tone average. The correlation coefficient between MMSE and wMMSE-J for all subjects was r = 0.80 (p = 0.00). However, a t-test indicated that scores for wMMSE-J were significantly lower. Stratification by the level of dementia revealed that the wMMSE-J score was lower than the MMSE score for all groups other than the slight dementia group. Among the non-hearing impaired, significant difference was found between MMSE and wMMSE-J. However, among the hearing impaired, significant differences in overall score and in the subtests of comprehension and writing, both of which require long written instructions, were found between MMSE and wMMSE-J. Because wMMSE-J has limited usefulness, further innovations are required, such as improving the written instructions so that they can be comprehended by groups other than those with slight dementia as well as by those with dementia and hearing impairment.departmental bulletin pape

No full textP(論文)This paper deals with Houtetsu Iwakiri who developed the Dutch medicine in Hyuga (Nobeoka), Miyazaki during the Edo-period. Houtetsu Iwakiri was born at Ifukugata, Nobeoka in 1730 as the third boy among three brothers. When eighteen years old, he went to Nagasaki to learn Dutch-medicine under the first, Eitetsu Narabayashi for four years. In 1752, Houtetsu Iwakiri came back to Nobeoka and became to be a medicinal doctor of the Naito clan, Masaki Naito. It was called that Houtetsu Iwakiri was the pioneer who spreaded the Dutch-medicine into Hyuga (Miyazaki) during the Edo-period. He was dead as 71 years old in 1800.departmental bulletin pape
The philosophy of welfare in Ancient Chinese 'Li' (Part 2)
No full textP(論文)This paper, following Yokoyama (2004), discuses a philosophy of welfare in ancient China, particularly focusing on the concept of `Li' in Dadai Liji, a book of expertise on `Li', which has been classified into Xiaodai Liji and Dadai Liji. The latter recognized a welfare philosophy in which a ruler financially secured the weak through practical `Li', for ancient rulers held the idea that they worshipped `Ten'; otherwise, the ruled would become in a bad way and the nation would be on the road to ruin. `Li', in contrast, required the strong among the ruled to support the weak. However, `Li' in Dadai Liji differs from the current welfare philosophy, in which all men are equal; that is, for `Li' to function properly in society, men are classified according to social position, sex and age, and as a consequence of this classification, every human relation is important.departmental bulletin pape
Identification of CD93 expression on hematopoietic stem cells in human neonatal umbilical cord blood cells
No full textP(論文)臍帯血由来造血幹細胞表面上のCD93の発現を我々が開発したCD93モノクローナル抗体(mNI-11)、既存のCD34抗体、CD45抗体を組み合わせたフローサイトメトリー法で解析した。その結果、臍帯血由来造血幹細胞(CD34+細胞およびCD34+CD45dim+細胞)表面上にはCD93が発現していることが分かった。以上の結果は、CD93が未熟な造血幹細胞の新たな細胞表面マーカーに成り得ると共に、造血幹細胞におけるCD93の免疫学的な機能解析に非常に有益な情報と考えられる。Human CD93 is a heavily O-glycosylated type I transmembrane protein consisting of unique C-type lectin domains (CTLDs) containing glycoprotein. CD93 is mainly expressed on myeloid cells (monocytes and granulocytes) and endothelial cells. However, the expression patterns of CD93 on various other kinds of cells are not well understood. In this study, we found that CD93 was recognized by a CD93 monoclonal antibody (mAb) (mNI-11) that was established in our laboratories and was expressed on a broad hematopoietic stem cell population (CD34+ cells) from human neonatal umbilical cord blood cells (UCBCs), as shown using a two-color flow cytometric analysis. In addition, the CD93 recognized by mNI-11 was also expressed on a narrow hematopoietic stem cell population(CD34+CD45dim+ cells) in which the non-specific reactivity of CD34 mAb from human neonatal UCBCs was excluded using a three-color flow cytometric analysis. Taken together, these results provide the first evidence concerning the identification of CD93 expression on hematopoietic stem cells. These cell populations (CD34+CD93+ and CD34+CD45dim+CD93+ cells) in human neonatal UCBCs are thought to have an important role in cell biology, transplantation, and immature/mature immune responses.departmental bulletin pape
Reappraisal of the use of foreign consultation system
No full textP(論文)The three objectives of the speech-language-hearing outpatient consultation system `Hello' were as follows: 1) social contribution; 2) clinical education for students, alumni and staff; and 3) clinical research. In the present study, we analysed the system utilization and user trends between April 2008 and September 2011 and reviewed speech therapy modalities from the perspective of social contribution. The results showed that 6 adults and 62 children used the system and that the children were mainly pre-school infants. The kind of a user's language auditory difficulties has many development-of-speech-and-language obstacles as 40 persons. Referral routes mostly comprised other users. With regard to social contribution, the consultation system provided specialist outpatient services and educational activities. Staff involved with the consultation system experienced difficulty providing long-term support to all users as they also had to attend to their routine duties. Depending on the circumstances and requirements of the user, cooperation with local medical, health, welfare and educational facilities is required. This can be achieved through expansion of the alumni job network and creation of relationships with other institutions to facilitate cooperation. Future requirements for social contribution comprise the provision of workshops and forums for information sharing and exchange.departmental bulletin pape
