Distribution of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester Isolated from Propolis in Ganglioside GD₃ Monolayer and Their Interaction
P(論文)The distribution of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) isolated from propolis in ganglioside GD₃ (GD₃) monolayer as a model membrane of tumor, and the effect of CAPE on GD₃ were observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). CAPE distributed in the GD₃ monolayer markedly changed the morphology of GD₃ monolayer from a flat pattern to a percolation pattern. The effect of CAPE on the GD₃ membrane was similar to that of known antitumor compounds, suggesting that CAPE may possess antitumor activities.departmental bulletin pape
Effects of shading parts of the face on emotion recognition : An examination using methods of choice
P(論文)The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of shading parts of face on emotion recognition using methods of choice. The participants were 34 undergraduate students, whose ages ranged from 20 to 29 years. The stimulus materials comprised photographs of six basic emotions (happiness, surprise, fear, anger, sadness and, disgust), and copies of these photographs in which upper or lower parts of these six basic emotions were shaded. The models for the photographs were six Japanese males and six Japanese females. The task assigned to the participants was to select emotional words appropriate for each photograph. The rates of correct responses for the male and female photographs of happiness, surprise and sadness were > 90%. In the male photographs, differences in the rates of correct responses between photographs with their upper parts shaded and those with their lower parts shaded were significant in happiness, anger, sadness and disgust. In the female photographs, differences in the rates of correct responses between photographs with their upper parts shaded and those with their lower parts shaded were significant in happiness, fear, anger and disgust. These results suggest the following ; 1) Happiness can be recognised more precisely by viewing the lower parts of face regardless of the gender depicted in the photographs ; 2) Anger can be recognised more precisely by viewing the upper parts of face regardless of the gender depicted in the photographs ; 3) Fear can not be recognised precisely even in photographs that are not shaded ; 4) In future studies, it is necessary to examine effects of shading parts of the face on emotion recognition using other sets of photographs, and to examine effects of action units peculiar to each emotion on emotion recognition.departmental bulletin pape
The relationship between youth sports clubs and extracurricular activities in school : Comparison of consciousness formation between J youth club and a high school soccer club.
P(論文)This study examines the relationship between extracurricular activities in school and a youth sports club. In an interview-based investigation, a high school coach expressed strong concern for the educational function of the school-based extracurricular activities. The J youth club also expressed consciousness of an educational function. In questionnaire responses, the J youth club players had high consciousness level for school-based extracurricular activities in three areas: acquisition of social skills, acquisition of attitudes and capabilities related to the government guidelines for teaching. The J youth club seems to be evolving towards broader outcomes supporting the educational function, such as learning developmental and social skills. In contrast, school-based extracurricular activities are evolving towards `game-oriented' activities leading to abandonment and decline of the educational function. Thuse a reversal of roles between sports clubs and school-based extra curricular activities has begun.departmental bulletin pape
Consideration of Social Support and Dreams of Left-Behind Children in Chinese Agricultural Villages (Part 2)
P(論文)This study examines and elucidates how ambitions of left-behind children in poor agricultural villages can be fulfilled in Chinese society. Chapter 2 verifies important government documents and considers the effect of Chinese educational reforms on the self-actualization of left-behind children and migrant workers over the next decade. Chapter 3 examines the current state of life and the aspirations of left-behind children from their perspective, based on a survey conducted in an agricultural village in Hunan Province, which for the past three years has been the focus of participant observation. Chapter 4 introduces and considers the significance of social care being implemented to achieve the aspirations of left-behind children in Xinhua prefecture, Hunan province as well as of the hometown migrant workers and their children, based on the survey results of agricultural villages.departmental bulletin pape
Hepatic Arterial Infusion Therapy with Cisplatin using Protein Binding Inhibition : Pharmacokinetics and Antineoplastic Effects of Cisplatin Combined with L-Cysteine in Rats
Covalent binding is involved in the protein binding of cisplatin. L-cysteine reduces the covalent binding of cisplatin. We investigated hepatic arterial infusion therapy with cisplatin using protein binding inhibition. In the present experiment, the pharmacokinetics and antineoplastic effects of cisplatin combined with L-cysteine in male Donryu rats were investigated. As a result, no significant difference was noted in the total and free concentrations of cisplatin combined with L-cysteine. In an in vivo experiment using rats with liver cancer, the hepatic arterial infusion of cisplatin combined with L-cysteine showed that it was the tendency that tumor growth rate was inhibited in comparison with administration only for cisplatin. In addition, concentrations of cisplatin increased significantly between tumor and non-tumor regions in liver tissue when combined with L-cysteine (p<0.01). Thus, L-cysteine can be combined with cisplatin for hepatic arterial infusion therapy.departmental bulletin pape
Modulation of CD93 molecule in a human monocyte-like cell line (U937) treated with nickel
In this study, we demonstrated the modulation of CD93 molecules (both membrane-bound and soluble-form) in a human monocyte-like cell line, U937 treated with nickel (Ni2+) to model contact hypersensitivity (CHS), such as metal allergy. Ni2+ induced the apoptosis of the U937 cells accompanied by the enhanced secretion of an inflammatory cytokine, interleukin-8 (IL-8). The percentages and mean fluorescence intensities (MFIs) of membrane-bound CD93 (mCD93) expressed on U937 cells were significantly decreased after treatment with Ni2+ when examined using flow cytometry with a CD93 monoclonal antibody (mAb) (mNI-11), which was established in our laboratories. In contrast, the secretion of soluble-form CD93 (sCD93) from U937 cells increased markedly after treatment with Ni2+. Taken together, these findings suggest that the modulation of CD93 molecules (both mCD93 and sCD93) might serve as a new biomarker for analyzing the inflammatory reaction in CHS induced by Ni2+.departmental bulletin pape
