Effects of Caffeic Acid Esters Isolated from Propolis on Ganglioside GD3 Monolayers
P(論文)The distribution of benzyl caffeate (BC), cinnamyl caffeate (CC) and phenethyl caffeate (PC) isolated from propolis in ganglioside GD3 (GD3) monolayer as a model of a tumor membrane, and their effects of the caffeic acid esters on the GD3 monolayer were observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). BC and PC distributed in the GD3 monolayer markedly changed the morphology of the GD3 monolayer from a flat surface to a percolated pattern, whereas CC distributed in the GD3 monolayer exhibited a broken percolation pattern. The effects of BC and PC on the GD3 membrane were similar to those of known antitumor compounds, suggesting that BC and PC may possess antitumor activity. The activity of CC seems to be weaker than that of BC and PC.departmental bulletin pape
Attitudes toward Sports for the Disable among University Students in a Department of Sports, Health and Welfare
P(論文)This study examined the awareness of and attitudes toward sports for the disabled and the Paralympics among university students majoring in a department of sports, health and welfare. The results indicated that both recognition of and interest in these activities were high. In fact, approximately 60% of the university students expressed interest in becoming directly involved with sports for the disabled or the Paralympics. The greatest expression of interest was displayed by those preparing to become trainers. This study suggests the need to develop the human resources to support sports for the disabled by enabling students preparing to become athletic trainers to collaborate with leaders of disabled sports training.departmental bulletin pape
Comparison of a pedometer with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Japanese version for assessing university student daily physical activity
P(論文)Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess university students’ physical activity by the pedometer and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ).
Methods: Ten healthy university students (6 men, 4 women) wore a pedometer (Lifecorder GS; Suzuken Co., Nagoya) for 7 days. Then the subjects replied questions about their physical activity using IPAQ.
Results: The mean±SD number of daily steps was 5,528±2,200 on school days and 7,279±3,540 on weekends. Among students with a part time job, there were more daily steps on weekends than on school days (P < 0.05). Daily energy expenditure estimated by IPAQ and by pedometer were significantly correlated (r = 0.885). The daily energy expenditure assessed by pedometer, however, was significantly higher than by IPAQ (pedometer: 1986±308 kcal, IPAQ: 1679±578 kcal, P < 0.05).
Conclusion: This study confirms that university student physical activity is affected by a part time job.departmental bulletin pape
Factors affecting trainees' images of mentally‐handicapped people and satisfaction levels of their training practice : Analyzing the data from students trained at the facility for people with intellectual disabilities
The purpose of this study is to analyze which factors affect satisfaction levels of students who anished their care training at the facility for people with intelectual disabilities. According to the data from the questionnaire of eighty eight students who had training at the Facility (for people with intellectual disabilities). Students who feel less satisned with care training tend to feel more difficulty to communicate with mentaly-handicapped persons using the facility resulting in inability to support them. The reason why many students have negative feelings toward supporting faculty users is because they have fewer opportunities to contact them with before their training and accordingly fail to have enough information forcreating good (or positive) images toward them. The research data also reveals that students who feel less satisfied with training also tend to feel rnore difficulty to change their negative image about the facility users.departmental bulletin pape
Serum levels of soluble CD93 in patients with chronic renal failure
In this clinical study, we examined the serum levels of soluble CD93 (sCD93) in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) by an originally constructed enzyme-linked immunoassay (EIA) using a CD93 monoclonal antibody (mAb) (mNI-11) established in our laboratories. The serum concentrations of sCD93 in patients with CRF were significantly higher (P < 0.001) than those in normal healthy controls. Furthermore, the serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) were also significantly higher in the patients with CRF (P < 0.05) than in the normal healthy controls. In addition, the serum levels of sCD93 were strongly correlated with the blood urea nitrogen (BUN) (r = 0.797, P < 0.001), serum creatinine (r = 0.784, P < 0.001) and serum cystatin C (r = 0.913, P < 0.001). Taken together, these findings suggest that the serum sCD93 may serve as a new biomarker for analyzing or measuring renal function.departmental bulletin pape
