Evaluation of Subsoil Corrosivity Condition around
Baracaia Area Using the Electrical Resistivity
Method—A Case Study from the Muglad Basin,
Southwestern SudanThis paper evaluate subsoil corrosivity using the electrical resistivity method which was carried out to determine the
subsoil resistivity and estimate the degree of corrosion, the resistivity measurements were conducted by using SAS300c resistivity
meter. This involves applying a voltage into the soil through metal electrode and measuring the resistance to the flow of electric
current. An AC-power supplies current flow (I) between two outer electrodes and the resultant voltage different (V) between two
inner electrodes is measured using the Wenner Arrangement. The soil resistance given by R = V/I. This needs to be standardized over
a unit length, the resistivity ρ which measured in ohm-m the equation is, ρ = 2лdR. There are many factors control the ground
resistivity such as soil composition, moisture content, pore water chemistry and pH. The results of the survey show inverse
proportion between corrosivity and electrical resistivity, therefore resistivity method is very useful to incipient the corrosion as well
as effective, quick, reliable and economic method. Structures such as natural gas, crude oil pipelines and steel constructions were
reported to have been affected by soil corrosion all around the world, it can be concluded that sub soil corrosivity around the study
area increases southwestern ward with depth
Damage mechanism of expansive soils
Damage mechanism of expansive soilsThe goal of the information presented in this paper is to provide the reader with qualitative concepts
that help identifying soil expansion problems for different structures erected in or on expansive
soils. A diagram is described to explain the water distribution during the seasonal variations of
water content which influences the behaviour of expansive soils, The damages of light structures
due to expansive soil behaviour are described to assist engineers in using suitable design criteria.
Another important goal of this paper involves safe constructions on expansive soils. Guidelines are
outlined to assist engineers in dealing with expansive soils at early stages before construction and
designing maintenance in later stages
Numerical Analysis of Failure Mode of Micropile in Cohesive Soil
Numerical Analysis of Failure Mode of Micropile in Cohesive SoilAbstract:
In this paper, finite element was used to study the behavior of micropile. The model
was developed using PLAXIS 3D foundation program. Micropiles are tested by the static
axial load testing of individual piles. In the FE-analysis the pile is assumed to be linear
elastic and for the subsoil is assumed as Mohr-Coulomb model. The model was
developed to simulate the micropiles type A where the grouting is applied by gravity.
This model is introduced briefly and compared with the results of the pile load test. A
good agreement was obtained with the experimental results; with a discrepancy of within
-8.3 to 20%. Finally the failure pattern was investigated
