Observation of a structure in e(+)e(-) -> phi eta ' at root s from 2.05 to 3.08 GeV

    No full text
The process e(+)e(-) -> phi eta' has been studied for the first time in detail using data sample collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center of mass energies from 2.05 to 3.08 GeV. A resonance with quantum numbers J(PC) = 1(--) is observed with mass M = (2177.5 +/- 4.8(stat) +/- 19.5(syst))MeV/c(2) and width Gamma = (149.0 +/- 15.6(stat) +/- 8.9(syst)) MeV with a statistical significance larger than 10 sigma, including systematic uncertainties. If the observed structure is identified with the phi(2170), then the ratio of partial width between the phi eta' by BESIII and phi eta by BABAR is (B-phi eta(R)Gamma(R)(ee))1(B-phi eta'(R)Gamma(R)(ee)) = 0.23 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.18(syst), which is smaller than the prediction of the s (s) over barg hybrid models by several orders of magnitude

Compound muscle action potential scan and MScanFit motor unit number estimation during Wallerian degeneration after nerve transections

    No full text
Background Compound muscle action potential (CMAP) scan and MScanFit have been used to understand the consequences of denervation and reinnervation. This study aimed to monitor these parameters during Wallerian degeneration (WD) after acute nerve transections (ANT).Methods Beginning after urgent surgery, CMAP scans were recorded at 1-2 day intervals in 12 patients with ANT of the ulnar or median nerves, by stimulating the distal stump (DS). Stimulus intensities (SI), steps, returners, and MScanFit were calculated. Studies were grouped according to the examination time after ANT. Results were compared with those of 27 controls. Results CMAP amplitudes and MScanFit progressively declined, revealing a positive correlation with one another. SIs were higher in WD groups than controls. Steps appeared or disappeared in follow-up scans. The late WD group had higher returner% than the early WD and control groups. Conclusions MScanFit can monitor neuromuscular dysfunction during WD. SIs revealed excitability changes in DS

A new Fuzzy C-Means and AHP-based three-phased approach for multiple criteria ABC inventory classification

    No full text
ABC analysis is an efficient and easy-to-use methodology to classify inventory based on a single or multi-criteria basis that may consist of thousands of items. The first study by Dickie (Fact Manag Maint 109(7):92-94, 1951), based on a single criterion, is considered to be limited now. New studies focus on Multi-Criteria-Inventory Classification (MCIC) since such an extension of the criteria fits the realities of modern business decisions. The proposed approach in this study uses three-phased MCIC incorporating analytical hierarchy process (AHP), Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) algorithm, and a newly proposed Revised-Veto (Rveto) phase to meet the ABC classification principles and increase its applicability and flexibility. This new approach is called AHP-FCM-Rveto and proposed in this study for the first time. A numerical example taken from the literature is used to compare AHP-FCM-Rveto with other methods, and the results also show that the proposed methodology performs better. In the real-life example, the main advantage of compliance with the Pareto principle of the proposed method is shown

Design and Development of a Refrigerator Door Gasket to Prevent Condensation

    No full text
Refrigerators are one of the most frequently used household devices; therefore, they represent an interesting subject for investigations. One of these research topics is the condensation problem in the gasket region. Despite the use of heaters in the refrigerator door, condensation on the surface of the gasket may still occur. Thus, there is a need for an improved gasket structure to overcome the condensation on the surface of the gasket. The present study aims at development of a new gasket design to prevent condensation in its region of the refrigerator. Critical points, where condensation may occur on the gasket surface, were determined experimentally and the parameters of a new design were clarified by numerical analysis. Various air chambers were created in the gasket to change the temperature distribution on the surface for preventing condensation at some critical points. The effect of these air chambers' location on the temperature distribution in the gasket region was investigated and the temperature of the potential condensation zones was relatively increased

A dynamic inverse distance weighting-based local face descriptor

    No full text
This paper proposes a novel high-performance dynamic inverse distance weighting based local descriptor (DIDWLD) for facial recognition. Studies proposed thus far have focused on finding local descriptors that can represent the texture of the face best. However, the robustness of the descriptors against rotational variances and noise affects have been largely omitted. Thus, this study does not only concern with proposing a high-discriminative descriptor, but also a robust one against rotational changes and noise affects. DIDWLD mainly basis on Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW). That is, for each pixel in the image, a new descriptive value is calculated, taking into account the intensity values of the neighboring pixels and their distance to the reference pixels. A dynamic distance-decay parameter is applied throughout the image rather than keeping it uniform as done in ordinary IDW. The calculated descriptor is independent of the changes in the rotation. Because, when calculating the descriptor, the intensity values of the surrounding pixels with their distances to the reference pixel are taken into consideration, yet their directional relation to the reference pixel is ignored. Furthermore, when a pixel is suffered to noise, inherently, its neighboring pixels are also affected. Hence, by taking into account the effect of the surrounding pixels and also the original intensity value of the pixel, the degrading impact of noise on recognition performance is mitigated. The results of extensive simulations show the remarkable and competitive performance of the proposed method regarding recognition accuracy, and robustness against rotational variances and, noise effects

Observation of the Y(4220) and Y(4390) in the process e(+)e(-) -> eta J/psi

    No full text
The cross sections of the process e(+)e(-) -> eta J/psi lip at center-of-mass energies (root s) between 3.81 and 4.60 GeV are measured with high precision by using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Three structures are observed by analyzing the line shape of the measured cross sections, and a maximum-likelihood fit including three resonances is performed by assuming the lowest lying structure is the psi(4040). For the other resonances, we obtain masses of (4218.6 +/- 3.8 +/- 2.5) and (4382.0 +/- 13.3 +/- 1.7) MeV/c(2) with corresponding widths of (82.0 +/- 5.7 +/- 0.4) and (135.8 +/- 60.8 +/- 22.5) MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The measured resonant parameters are consistent with those of the Y(4220) and Y(4390) from previous measurements of different final states. For the first time, we observe the decays of the Y(4220) and Y(4390) into eta J/psi final states

Search for the decay J/psi -> gamma plus invisible

    No full text
We search for J/psi radiative decays into a weakly interacting neutral particle, namely an invisible particle, using the J/psi produced through the process psi(3686) -> pi(+)pi(-) J/psi in a data sample of (448.1 +/- 2.9) x 10(6) psi(3686) decays collected by the BESIII detector at BEPCII. No significant signal is observed. Using a modified frequentist method, upper limits on the branching fractions are set under different assumptions of invisible particle masses up to 12 GeV/c(2). The upper limit corresponding to an invisible particle with zero mass is 7.0 x 10(-7) at the 90% confidence level

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D-0 and (D)over-bar(0) -> K-S,L(0)pi(+)pi(-) and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle gamma/phi(3)

    No full text
Crucial inputs for a variety of CP-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral D mesons, which are produced in the decay of the psi(3770) resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between D-0 and (D) over bar (0) in the decays D-0 -> K-S,L(0)pi(+)pi(-) are studied using 2.93 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in D-0 -> K-S,L(0)pi(+)pi(-) decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma/phi(3) is expected to be between 0.7 degrees and 1.2 degrees for an analysis using the decay B-+/- -> DK +/-, D -> K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-), where D represents a superposition of D-0 and (D) over bar (0) states. This is a factor of 3 smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Furthermore, these results provide valuable input for charm-mixing studies, other measurements of CP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other D-decay modes
