Managers' work context-related unwell-being: A study on the largest businesses in Turkey

    No full text
The aim of this study is to capture and scrutinize the nature of managers' unwell-being through an original integrative research model in order to find out how this unwell-being is structured when the four prominent unwell-being factors, namely absenteeism, job alienation, job dissatisfaction, and presenteeism are accounted for. To enable generalizations at the national level, we contacted mid-level managers of the 500 largest businesses of Turkey. A professional consulting firm used our developed questionnaires to collect data from these managers. The two-phase research process pointed out that the model was realistic; there were indeed interactions among all the mentioned unwell-being factors. Further investigations revealed that the three of these factors (presenteeism, job alienation, and absenteeism) had strong and positive connections; whereas the fourth, job dissatisfaction, could pose very weak and negative interactions with the others. We believe that the integrative approach used is the unique contribution of this study as there are theoretical and practical gaps regarding the unwell-being research that consider an aggregation of multiple factors simultaneously

Thermoresponsive hydrogels based on renewable resources

    No full text
This work aims to synthesize novel thermoresponsive hydrogels from renewable resources, bacterial cellulose (BC), and castor oil (CO), and to investigate the effect of CO on physical and thermal behaviors of BC/Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogels. The structural properties of the hydrogels are analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) technique and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) are also performed to examine the thermal properties of the hydrogels. The morphological differences of the hydrogels are analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The thermoresponsive performances of the hydrogels are examined by swelling and deswelling behaviors. The hydrogel with CO is found to be more sensitive to temperature changes than the one without CO. Deswelling study demonstrates 91 and 25% of water loss for hydrogels with and without CO, respectively. The present study shows a novel approach to synthesize thermoresponsive hydrogels with renewable resources for biomedical applications. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. A case study

Psychodynamic case formulation examines how symptoms of the patient appeared and constitutes a useful guideline for clinicians because it examines the level of object relations, ego strength, mental capacity, and core conflict, plans the treatment, and predicts prognosis. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) cases display symptoms characterized by dramatic life history, impulsivity, relationship problems, and unstable moods and behaviors. These unstable and multiple symptoms affect the clinical appearance and treatment response of the disorder. People with BPD build up intense transference and countertransference responses and are often perceived as “difficult patients” by healthcare professionals and nurses who spend the most time with these patients in inpatient services. Therefore, psychodynamic formulation is particularly necessary and useful in BPD cases to understand the patient better and manage the treatment processes. The case presented here reported complaints including mood swings, feelings of emptiness, inability to go to school, bursts of rage, self-injurious behaviors, and suicidal thoughts and attempts. Her expectations from treatment were to control her anger, express herself, be strong in bilateral relationships, and be a normal person. A psychodynamic formulation was done in company with the supervision and the case was diagnosed with BPD. Formulating BPD cases in terms of a psychodynamic perspective may provide more information on thoughts, emotions, and behaviors of the patients. In this study, through the information obtained using psychodynamic interview techniques, impulse, affectivity, mood characteristics, defense mechanisms, selfdom, object relations, and superego of the BPD diagnosed case are discussed. © 2019, Kare Publishing. No full text
A commercial micropump should provide properties that justify the simple structure and miniaturization, high reliability, simple working principle, low cost and no need for complex controller. In this study, two novel piezoelectric actuated (lead zirconate titanate-PZT) valveless micropumps that can achieve high flow rates by pumping chambers and fixed reservoirs were designed and fabricated. Extensive experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of hydrodynamic and electromechanical on flow rates of the Single Diaphragm Micropump (SDM) and the Bi-diaphragm Micropump (BDM). BDM had two actuators facing to the same chamber at 180-degree phase shift. The primary features of the proposed designs were the high flow rates at low driving voltages and frequencies with the help of innovative design geometry. 3D-printing technique providing one-step fabrication for integrated micropumps with fixed reservoir was used. The micropump materials were biocompatible and can be used repeatedly to reduce costs. Mechanical parameters such as tensile test for silicon diaphragm, surface topography scanning by microscopy techniques and drop shape analysis for hydrophobic property were investigated to reveal surface wetting and flow stability. In addition, the effect of reservoir height was investigated and the calibration flow rates were measured during the inactive periods. The maximum diaphragm displacements were obtained at 45 V and 5 Hz. The maximum flow rate of SDM and BDM at 45 V and 20 Hz were 32.85 ml/min and 35.4 ml/min respectively. At all driving voltage and frequency levels, BDM had higher flow rates than of SDM

On the Grand Wiener Amalgam Spaces

    No full text
We define the grand Wiener amalgam space by using the classical Wiener amalgam space and the generalized grand Lebesgue space. Moreover we study the inclusions between these spaces and some applications. Finally we prove the Holder inequality for the grand Wiener amalgam space. We also find the associate space and dual of this space, and we prove that the grand Wiener amalgam space is not reflexive

Experimental investigation of PCM location in a commercial display cabinet cooled by a transcritical CO2 system

    No full text
In this study, the influence of phase change material (PCM) location in a closed display cabinet cooled by a transcritical CO2 refrigeration system was examined experimentally. Two configurations have been investigated where PCM panels are placed on the backside and the shelves of the cabinet. The effect of PCM locations on the cabinet air temperature and compressor power consumption is evaluated and compared during periods of 24 and 8 h of operation. The variation of in the cabinet air temperatures and power consumption with time is measured during charging, running, and power failure periods. It is found that installing PCMs on the shelves of the cabinet is more advantageous and promising in terms of both maintaining cabinet air temperature homogeneous and keeping it at certain average temperature levels. For PCM on the shelves case, energy saving is found 4.4% less than without PCM case. On the other hand, PCM on the backside case results in 8% more energy consumption. Moreover, the running time is found 15.8 less for PCM on the shelves case. Therefore, PCM on shelves case is concluded to be the best option for PCM utilization in the present study

Ayrıca tüm numunelerde RISE (Ters Çentik BoyutEtkisi) davranışının ortaya çıktığı saptanmıştır

DO PRIVATE SECTOR SHORT-TERM EXTERNAL DEBT HAVE IMPACT ON CREDIT DEFAULT SWAP PREMIUMS IN TURKEY? AN ANALYSIS WITH ASYMMETRIC THRESHOLD COINTEGRATION APPROACH

    No full text
A country’s capacity to pay short-term external debt, which reflects the fiscal strenght of an economy against adverse shocks, is significantly taken into consideration by international investors in their decision making process. It has been seen that Turkey has experienced a gradually increasing private sector short-term external debt especially in the last twenty-year period. The objective of this study is to investigate the long-run relationship between private sector short-term external debt and CDS (credit default swap) premiums in Turkey for the period of 2000:Q4-2017:Q4 by using asymmetric threshold autoregressive (TAR) and momentum threshold autoregressive (M-TAR) procedures of Enders and Siklos (2001). The results indicate that CDS premiums and private sector short-term external debt in Turkey are cointegrated. After finding cointegration, the null hypothesis of symmetric adjustment is tested against the alternative of asymmetric adjustment and the evidence of symmetric adjustment is found, suggesting that the relationship between the private sector short-term external debt and CDS premiums has the same effect in expansion and contraction periods
