A Volumetric Study of the Corpus Callosum in the Turkish Population
Objective The aim of this study is to measure the average corpus callosum (CC) volume of healthy Turkish humans and to analyze the effects of gender and age on volumes, including the genu, truncus, and splenium parts of the CC.
Patients and Methods Magnetic resonance imaging brain scans were obtained from 301 healthy male and female subjects, aged 11 to 84 years. The median age was 42 years (min-max: 11-82) in females and 49 years (min-max: 12-84) in males. Corpus callosum and its parts were calculated by using MRICloud. CC volumes of each subject were compared with those of the age and gender groups.
Results All volumes of the CC were significantly higher in males than females. All left volumes except BCC were significantly higher than the right volumes in both males and females. The oldest two age groups (50-69 and 70-84 years) were found to have higher bilateral CC volumes, and bilateral BCC volumes were also higher than in the other two age groups (11-29 and 30-49 years).
Conclusion The results suggest that compared with females/males, females have a faster decline in the volume of all volumes of the CC. We think that quantitative structural magnetic resonance data of the brain is vital in understanding human brain function and development
Nurse Instructors' Perception Towards Distance Education During the Pandemic
Background: The nursing department also completely switched to distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new situation made the studies regarding attitudes, experiences, and difficulties of nursing instructors towards distance education more important.
Objectives: To determine the factors affecting the perceptions of nurse instructors towards distance education during the pandemic.
Design: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study.
Participants: A total of 389 nurse instructors working at a university constituted the sample.
Methods: An information form and the Perceptions of Distance Education scale were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, Cronbach Alpha internal consistency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis test were used in the analysis of the data.
Result: The nurse instructors' distance education perception scale score and perception regarding basic perspective, and resource access subdimension scores were at a medium level and the education-planning subdimension score at a high level. Those whose opinions on distance education changed compared to the pre-COVID-19 period, those who received education related to distance education, those who used new practices in the lessons, those who believed that distance education is effective, and those who thought that nursing is a suitable program for distance education had higher distance education perception scores.
Conclusions: It was determined that difficulties experienced by nurse instructors in distance education negatively affected the perception of distance education, and that positive experiences in distance education affected the perception positively. It is recommended to organize trainings for instructors to improve distance education skills, to encourage students to participate in classes, and to support nurse lecturers in overcoming difficulties
Observation of a Near-Threshold Structure in the K+ Recoil-Mass Spectra in e(+) e(-) -> K+ (D-s(-) D*(0) + D-s* - D-0)
We report a study of the processes of e(+)e(-) -> K+Ds- D*(0) and K+Ds* D-0 based on e(+)e(-) annihilation samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII at five center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.628 to 4.698 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 3.7 fb(-1). An excess of events over the known contributions of the conventional charmed mesons is observed near the D-s(-) D*(0) and D-s*(-) D-0 mass thresholds in the K+ recoil-mass spectrum for events collected at root s = 4.681 GeV. The structure matches a mass-dependent-width Breit-Wigner line shape, whose pole mass and width are determined as (3982.5(-2.6)(+1.8) +/- 2.1) MeV/c(2) and (12.8(-4.4)(+5.3) +/- 3.0) MeV, respectively. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The significance of the resonance hypothesis is estimated to be 5.3 sigma over the contributions only from the conventional charmed mesons. This is the first candidate for a charged hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness, decaying into D-s(-) D*(0) and D-s*(-) D-0. However, the properties of the excess need further exploration with more statistics
Volumetric Measurements of the Subcortical Structures of Healthy Adult Brains in the Turkish Population
Background: The interest in the morphological development of brain structures during childhood and adolescence arises from discussions on subcortical anomalies and sexual dimorphism, from adolescent changes in cognitive functions supported by cortical and subcortical structures to a wide range of childhood neuropsychiatric diseases. This study aims to investigate the relationships subcortical structures regarding age/gender changes in the healthy adult human brain using web-based VolBrain.
Materials and methods: In this study, 303 normal healthy adults [male and female] were obtained using a 1.5 T unit with a 20-channel head coil.
Results: The volumes of White Matter, Gray Matter, Total Brain, Cerebrospinal Fluid, and Total Intracranial Volume were significantly higher in males than those in females. Our analysis revealed a significantly larger accumbens volume for females. With age less than or equal to 50 years, older males were found to have higher total LV, putamen, thalamus, amygdala, cerebrum, White Matter and Gray Matter volumes than females. The age greater than the 50-years-old group resulted in a mean of total thalamus, Globus Pallidus and accumbens volumes higher in females than those in males. Right hemisphere volumes in younger and older age groups resulted in volumes except caudate in the older age group; the mean of caudate was significantly higher in females than those in males.
Conclusions: These conclusions might have important for the explanation of the effects of gender and age in cross-sectional structural MRI studies. Also, knowing the volume changes of the subcortical structures can provide convenience about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various neuromental disorders
Study of BESIII Trigger Efficiencies with the 2018 J/psi Data
Using a dedicated data sample taken in 2018 on the J/psi peak, we perform a detailed study of the trigger efficiencies of the BESIII detector. The efficiencies are determined from three representative physics processes, namely Bhabha scattering, dimuon production and generic hadronic events with charged particles. The combined efficiency of all active triggers approaches 100% in most cases, with uncertainties small enough not to affect most physics analyses
Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of D-s(+) -> tau(+)nu(tau) via tau(+) -> e(+)nu(e)(nu)over-bar(tau)
Using a dataset of 6.32 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at center-ofmass energies between 4178 and 4226 MeV, we have measured the absolute branching fraction of the leptonic decay D-s(+) -> tau(+)nu(tau) via tau(+) -> e(+)nu(e)(nu) over bar (tau), and find BDs+->tau+nu tau = (5.27 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.12) x 10(-2), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of 2 compared to the previous best measurement. Combining with fD thorns from lattice quantum chromodynamics calculations or the vertical bar V-cs vertical bar from the CKMfitter group, we extract vertical bar V-cs vertical bar = 0.978 +/- 0.009 +/- 0.012 and f(DS+) = (251.1 +/- 2.4 +/- 3.0) MeV, respectively. Combining our result with the world averages of BDs+->tau+nu tau and BDS+->mu+nu mu, we obtain the ratio of the branching fractions BDS+->tau+nu tau/BDs+->mu+nu mu = 9.72 +/- 0.37, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of lepton flavor universali
The Effect of Myths About Sexuality and the Level of Knowledge About Sexuality on the Marital Satisfaction in Married Couples
To look into the effect of sexual myths and level of knowledge about sexuality on marital satisfaction in married couples. The study was carried on with 104 voluntary respondents; 57 of which are married women and 47 are married men. The data has been collected with Personal Information Questionnaire, Marital Adjustment Test, Sexual Myths Analysis Questionnaire and The Golombok Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS), data has been analyzed with SPSS 15.0 software package (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). According to these findings, as the belief in sexual myths increases, the sexual satisfaction decreases; yet the increase in the belief in sexual myths does not affect the marital satisfaction. The findings implicate that as the knowledge about sexuality increases, the sexual satisfaction increases while the marital satisfaction decreases. As the number of sexual myths increases, marital adjustment decreases. The findings don't show any significant correlation between sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment
Measurement of the D -> K-pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) and D -> K-pi(+)pi(0) coherence factors and average strong-phase differences in quantum-correlated D(D)over-bar decays
The decays D -> K-+pi(+)pi(-) and D -> K-pi(+)pi(0) are studied in a sample of quantum-correlated D (D) over bar pair produced through the process e(+)e(-) -> psi(3770) -> D (D) over bar, exploiting a data set collected by the BESIII experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb(-1). Here D indicates a quantum superposition of a D-0 and a D-0 meson. By reconstructing one neutral charm meson in a signal decay, and the other in the same or a different final state, observables are measured that contain information on the coherence factors and average strong-phase differences of each of the signal modes. These parameters are critical inputs in the measurement of the angle gamma of the Unitarity Triangle in B- -> DK- decays at the LHCb and Belle II experiments. The coherence factors are determined to be R-K3 pi = 0.52(-0.10)(+0.12) and R-K pi pi 0 = 0.78 +/- 0.04, with values for the average strong-phase differences that are delta(K3 pi)(D) = (167(-19)(+31))degrees and delta(K pi pi 0)(D) = (196)degrees, where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic contributions. The analysis is re-performed in four bins of the phase-space of the D -> K-pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) to yield results that will allow for a more sensitive measurement of gamma with this mode, to which the BESIII inputs will contribute an uncertainty of around 6 degrees
