    A local-holistic graph-based descriptor for facial recognition

    No full text
    Face recognition remains critical and up-to-date due to its undeniable contribution to security. Many descriptors, the most vital figures used for face discrimination, have been proposed and continue to be done. This article presents a novel and highly discriminative identifier that can maintain high recognition performance, even under high noise, varying illumination, and expression exposure. By evolving the image into a graph, the feature set is extracted from the resulting graph rather than making inferences directly on the image pixels as done conventionally. The adjacency matrix is created at the outset by considering the pixels’ adjacencies and their intensity values. Subsequently, the weighted-directed graph having vertices and edges denoting the pixels and adjacencies between them is formed. Moreover, the weights of the edges state the intensity differences between the adjacent pixels. Ultimately, information extraction is performed, which indicates the importance of each vertex in the graphic, expresses the importance of the pixels in the entire image, and forms the feature set of the face image. As evidenced by the extensive simulations performed, the proposed graphic-based identifier shows remarkable and competitive performance regarding recognition accuracy, even under extreme conditions such as high noise, variable expression, and illumination compared with the state-of-the-art face recognition methods. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature

    Papulosquamous diseases represent a commonly encountered group of cutaneous disorders in dermatology. Lesions can present with papules and plaques in various configurations, including annular forms. Some of these disorders are expected to appear in annular configurations, such as pityriasis rosea and subcorneal pustular dermatosis. Others may either begin as or even progress to annular configurations, including psoriasis vulgaris, seborrheic dermatitis, and nummular dermatitis. We have reviewed common papulosquamous diseases that can present with annular lesions, which includes psoriasis vulgaris, pityriasis rosea, subcorneal pustular dermatosis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and nummular dermatitis. For each disorder, we have discussed the details of presentation and differential diseases to be considered

    Urban environmental aesthetics and place identity have begun to take their place on the design and planning agenda, especially in recent years. Urbanization resulting from competition between cities has caused the loss of identity and aesthetics in cities all over the world. The decreasing use of traditional building methods and planning, without consideration of the local context, by developers, authorities, and even administrators of cities has led cities to resemble each other. In light of these developments, the shape, form, texture, and especially identity and aesthetics of settlements become important in planning and urban design. While the concepts of aesthetics and urban identity are difficult to define, there are some parameters to evaluate them. This paper has two main objectives. The first is to determine parameters to evaluate aesthetics and urban identity. The second is to check these parameters over historical and touristic settlements. For this purpose, the concepts of aesthetics and spatial identity will be explained within the scope of the literature. The city of Masouleh in Iran has been chosen as an example of a historical and touristic settlement. The systematic development of the historical settlement, as well as the landscape, identity, and aesthetics of the environment's harmony and texture, were evaluated with a descriptive-analytical approach methodology based on the parameters revealed in the scope of the research. The findings aim to reveal the aesthetics and identity of historical residential areas. Including this information in scientific studies will lead to the design of more aesthetic settlements in the future

    One of the most important features of endurance training was to increase the weight of the dumbbells between sets. According to the relationship of the contractile force in the muscles, the porpuse was to increase muscle growth by gaining more contractile force. Previous studies had generally examined muscle behavior under maximum force. However, the relationship between increased dumbbell weight and muscle contraction was not fully investigated. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical behaviors resulting from the application of dynamic forces that occur during the dumbbell curl exercise on muscle fibers. In this study, biceps brachii muscle force during biceps curl exercise performed with two different weights (5kg and 10kg) was calculated. Then, a finite element model was developed and mechanical behaviors in the biceps muscle fiber during exercise were investigated. It was achieved that there was no linear correlation between dumbbell weight and muscle force. It was observed that when dumbbell weights were doubled (100%), the maximum muscle force and deformation increased by 83.13% and 84.92%, respectively. The results showed that increasing excessive weight during exercises will not be as beneficial for muscle development as expected

    It has been demonstrated by many studies to date that more used to plant foods in terms of nutrition is great importance in terms of health. Antioxidant content of plants plays an important role in the prevention or treatment of oxidative stress-related health problems that threaten human health, such as cancer, cholesterol and diabetes. Turkey has a rich plant diversity with the characteristics of its geography. Plants that grow in nature without human intervention and are consumed as food are called 'edible wild plants' and the gastronomic evaluation of edible herbs is mostly limited to the local people living in rural areas. The ways of use, cooking methods and presentation of wild herbs, which are called with different names in different regions, also differ according to the region. It is important to promote the consumption and sustainability of wild plants, which have a very important place in terms of health, to transfer our cultural heritage from generation to generation and to contribute to local gastronomy tourism. In this study, edible herbs consumed in Mersin were determined by interviewing local people from local bazaars and district villages. As a result of the research, 33 different edible herbs were identified. These herbs can be used raw and cooked, in pies, salads, meals, etc. by determining how they were consumed, prescriptions were prepared in line with this information, and dishes were made from the obtained herbs and photographed

    No full text
    Purpose – The point of the study is to examine the relationship between the personal characteristics of bank retail customers and the factors that may affect their credit card alternatives via the frequency of usage of such credit cards. Design/methodology/approach – This study falls within the scope of correlational research model in this respect. The correlational research approach provides for the clarification of the relationship between variables as well as the prediction of the findings. This study's sampling is based on 610 bank retail customers who had access to credit lines defined using easily available sampling methodologies. The research findings are produced using the following criteria: (1) personality inventory as the primary factor, (2) frequency of credit card usage each month, and (3) factors that influence credit card preference. The total score for each criterion is established by the criteria applicable to subsequent factor analysis that were developed in line with the data that fell within the scope of this study. Findings – As a result, the total scores were computed first. The skewness and kurtosis coefficients were calculated to determine whether or not such derived scores were distributed smoothly. The structural equation model was used to establish how the variables were clarified through the criteria used in credit card preference and customer behaviour based on the frequency of credit card use. According to the findings, when the factors impacting credit card preference that are based on the personal characteristics of retail customers are applied, the structural equation model used to establish for the instances that may have an influence on the frequency of credit card usage is substantiated. Discussion – In principle, when the studies are analyzed, the relevance of a complex but holistic research setting that incorporates not only an overall scanning of the customers' psychologies but also future scenarios comes to the forefront in conformity with the results of this study

    Study of the h(c)(1(1)P(1)) meson via psi(2S) -> pi(0)h(c) decays at BESIII

    No full text
    Using 448 million psi(2S) events, the spin-singlet P-wave charmonium state h(c)(1(1)P(1)) is studied via the psi(2S) -> pi(0)h(c) decay followed by the h(c) -> gamma eta(c) transition. The branching fractions are measured to be B-Inc(psi(2S) -> pi(0)h(c)) x B-Tag (h(c) -> gamma eta(c)) = (4.22(-0.26)(+0.27) +/- 0.19) x 10(-4), B-Inc (psi(2S) -> pi(0)h(c)) = (7.32 +/- 0.34 +/- 0.41) x 10(-4) , and B-Tag (h(c) -> gamma eta(c)) = (57.66(-3.50)(+3.62) +/- 0.58)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The h(c)(1(1)P(1)) mass and width are determined to be M = (3525.32 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.15) MeV/c(2) and Gamma = (0.78(-0.24)(+0.27)+/- 0.12) MeV. Using the center of gravity mass of the three chi(cJ) (1(3)P(J)) mesons [M(c.o.g.)], the 1P hyperfine mass splitting is estimated to be Delta(hyp) = M(h(c)) - M(c.o.g.) = (0.03 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.15) MeV/c(2), which is consistent with the expectation that the 1P hyperfine splitting is zero at the lowest order
