Observation of the Y(4230) and a new structure in e(+)e(-) -> K+ K- J/psi
The cross sections of e(+)e(-) -> K+K- J/psi at center-of-mass energies from 4.127 to 4.600 GeV are measured based on 15.6 fb(-1) data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in the line shape of the cross sections. The mass and width of the first structure are measured to be (4225.3 +/- 2.3 +/- 21.5) MeV and (72.9 +/- 6.1 +/- 30.8) MeV, respectively. They are consistent with those of the established Y(4230). The second structure is observed for the first time with a statistical significance greater than 8 sigma, denoted as Y(4500). Its mass and width are determined to be (4484.7 +/- 13.3 +/- 24.1) MeV and (111.1 +/- 30.1 +/- 15.2) MeV, respectively. The first presented uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The product of the electronic partial width with the decay branching fraction Gamma(Y(4230) -> e(+)e(-))B(Y(4230) -> K+ K- J/psi) is reported
Ultra-Facile Fabrication of Hydrogels through Photopolymerization of Oleyl Methacrylate and Epoxidized Oleyl Methacrylate with N-Isopropylacrylamide
This study reports an ultra-facile, economical, and environmentally friendly hydrogel synthesis method using renewable raw materials. The synthesis and photopolymerization of oleyl methacrylate (OM) and the epoxidized derivative of OM monomers are evaluated. In the first step, oleyl alcohol is esterified with methacryloyl chloride and then epoxidized via the Prilezhaev reaction. These monomers are used for hydrogel synthesis. For this purpose, they are polymerized with N-isopropyl acrylamide, N,N-methylene bis(acrylamide), or ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDGMA) via the photopolymerization technique. Novel hydrogels are successfully fabricated using a green process. Epoxidized OM-based hydrogel achieves an excellent yield of 87.1%. Moreover, low-energy UV irradiation and short reaction times reduces energy consumption. The thermal properties of the gels are also considered by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis techniques. DSC results reveal that the epoxidized OM-based hydrogel exhibits a melting peak at 84.5 °C. The highest 5% weight loss temperature is obtained for the OM-EDGMA copolymer as an indicator of thermal stability. © 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH
Children in Marketing: A Review, Synthesis and Research Agenda
Children have received much research attention in many different academic disciplines within social sciences, including marketing. The main objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the marketing literature to investigate the historical evolution of the studies on “children” and shed light on possible gaps which could serve as new research areas for future studies. To the authors' best knowledge, there have been a few attempts on the topic, mostly with a narrow focus on only some aspects of this important concept. The significance of this current research is that it reviews 423 articles from marketing-related journals and evaluates the development of thought on “children” from every marketing-based perspective that once has been a subject of scholarly attention. In this study, we examined leading articles, authors and institutions, methodologies used, countries data collected from, and the age of the sample. In addition, an auto-correlation map is created to identify all the research domains in marketing literature related to children. Our correlation matrix indicates that major subareas in children and marketing literature are children's consumer socialization and role in family decision-making, materialism, vulnerability and ethics, food, brands, and advertising. Findings revealed that while marketing scholars have shown great attention to children during the last two decades and a wide array of articles have been frequently published on the eight sub-areas mentioned, marketing literature is still underdeveloped on three aspects: sustainability, technology and digitalization, and cross-cultural differences. © 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd
Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of D-s(+) -> K-K+pi(+)pi(+)pi(-)
Using e+e− annihilation data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 6.32 fb−1 collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we perform an amplitude analysis of the decay Ds+ → K−K+π+π+π− and determine the relative fractions and phases of different intermediate processes. Absolute branching fraction of Ds+→ K−K+π+π+π− decay is measured to be (6.60 ± 0.47stat.± 0.38syst.) × 10−3. The dominant intermediate process is Ds+→ a1(1260)+ϕ, ϕ → K−K+, a1(1260)+→ ρπ+, ρ → π+π−, with a branching fraction of (5.15 ± 0.41stat.± 0.32syst.) × 10−3. Development of A New Method For The Synthesis of Macroporous Polymeric Surfaces For Lateral Flow Assay
Classical lateral flow assay kits offer great advantages due to their rapidity and practical uses. Otherwise lateral flow assays kits use nitrocellulose membrane. Current LFA kits can perform one analysis at a time generally. The paper, a new method and material design, which can be used in lateral flow assay kits, have been made diagnosis like nitrocellulose materials. In the study, the material developed as cryogelic filling material has been synthesized horizontally, it was characterized and designed for multiple analysis. The column material, which is used vertically as filling material and allows fluid flow because of its micro-sized pores, additionally allows liquid flow through its micro pores in the horizontal plane. For characterization of macroporous polymeric surface that allows liquid flow, SEM photographs were taken, swelling test, pore test, flow test and protein adsorption test were performed. In scanning electron microscopy photographs, pore sizes are seen to be 24–26 µm. As a result of the swelling test, the macroporous polymeric surface indicated swelling character of 216%. It was determined that the macroporous polymeric surface, which was determined to have a pore width of 66%, conducts 200% fluid transmission. 855 mg/g albumin adsorbed to macroporous polymeric membrane. Based on these data, it is imagined that the recently developed polymeric membrane can be utilized as lateral flow immunoassay kits in point of care systems for multiple analysis. © 2022 Elsevier Lt
Two-point discrimination assessment of the upper extremities of healthy young Turkish individuals
Objectives: This study aims to measure the two-point discrimination (TPD) values of the upper extremities of healthy young Turkish individuals. Patients and methods: Between March 2016 and June 2016, a total of 60 healthy students (31 males, 29 females; mean age: 22.0±1.7 years; range, 19 to 27 years) were included. Eleven grand upper limb parts which take innervation from the brachial plexus were measured with an esthesiometer. Results: The values at the dominant sides were statistically significantly greater than the non-dominant sides at those areas: upper lateral arm (p=0.001), lower lateral arm (p=0.001), mid-posterior arm (p=0.001), mid-lateral forearm (p=0.001), mid-posterior forearm (p=0.012), skin over the first dorsal interossei muscle (p=0.031), and palmar surface of distal phalanx of the thumb (p=0.045). Both dominant and non-dominant lower lateral arm TPD measurement results increased in males compared to females, indicating a statistically significant difference (p=0.005 and p=0.011, respectively). Also, dominant and non-dominant mid-posterior arm measurement scores were found to statistically significantly increase in males compared to females (p=0.019 and p=0.040, respectively). Conclusion: Our study results show that laterality, with lower values on the non-dominant side, but not the sex, has an effect on TPD. The findings of this study may be useful in establishing the normative data for TPD in the upper extremity parts of healthy young Turkish individuals. © 2022 All right reserved by the Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Chronology of trace elements and radionuclides using sediment cores in Golden Horn Estuary, Sea of Marmara
Trace elements and radionuclides are substantial pollutants in marine environment since they are non-biodegradable and can be harmful even in minute concentrations. The Golden Horn estuary, where is an inlet of Bosphorus and two creeks, has been seriously polluted by untreated municipal and industrial dischargers for several decades. Since 1998, a large restoration and rehabilitation efforts have been undertaken in the estuary to mitigate the pollution. In the present study, four sediment cores were taken from the Golden Horn estuary to assess the historical accumulation of trace elements and radionuclides. Radiometric dating was implemented by 210Pb and 137Cs radionuclides and CRS model. Sedimentation rates were calculated in the range of 0.92–0.97 cm yr−1 in the estuary. The distribution of radionuclides (40K, 226Ra, and 228Ra) indicated some slight variations which ascribes to the geological characteristics of sediment along the cores. The concentrations of the anthropogenic elements were relatively higher in the intensive industrialization period. Their concentrations reduced in the latest 15–20 years thanks to the large-scale rehabilitation project in the estuary. The pollution indices, namely EF, Igeo, CF, and PLI showed that the concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Sb, and Sn were above the world averages. Our results provide an insight on the long-term accumulation trends of trace element in the Golden Horn, which revealed that the estuary remains moderately polluted. We suggest that preventive countermeasures are much more important than post pollution remediation in the case of metallic pollution in the estuaries. © 2022 Elsevier Lt
Thyroid hormone resistance with succinate dehydrogenase-B gene mutation
Resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) is characterized by non-suppressed TSH concentration despite high T4 and/or T3 levels.1 Resistance may develop at any steps in the hormone
receptor binding, signaling, or intracellular thyroid hormone metabolism process. The disease
is caused by mutations in the thyroid hormone
receptor beta (THRB) in the majority of cases.2
Mutations in other genes have been associated
with RTH, including thyroid hormone receptor
alpha (THRA), Monocarboxylate transporter-8
(MCT8), and selenocysteine insertion sequence
binding protein 2 (SECISBP2).2, 3 After clinical
and laboratory examinations, genetic screening
of other family members is necessary in suspicious cases. Succinate dehydrogenase subunit B
(SDHB) is a well-known gene related to pheochromocytoma and extra-adrenal paragangliomas in the head and neck.4-6 The patient as well
as his two children who have been diagnosed
with RTH, all are found to have SDHB mutations
that are functionally significant. This is the first
report an SDHB mutation has been recorded in
an RTH case in the medical literature. A 50-yearold man evaluated preoperatively for nasal surgery showed hyperthyroidism, and he was prescribed methimazole orally. An ultrasound of his
enlarged thyroid gland revealed a 13 mm haloed
cystic necrotic nodule. The nodule was diagnosed
as Bethesda IV suspicious for follicular neoplasia
after a fine-needle aspiration biopsy. His laboratory findings were FT3:13.7 pmol/L (3.1-6.8),
FT4: 20.5 pmol/L (12-22), and TSH:1.0 mIU/mL
(0.27-4.2). He was planned for a total thyroidectomy in the euthyroid state and referred to our department. He had mild hyperthyroid symptoms,
including excessive sweating and agitation. He
was shorter than the population’s average height.
He had a goiter and tachycardia on his physical
examination. On repeated testing, his laboratory
findings revealed a high FT3 level. Antibody interaction misleading results in polyethyleneglycol precipitated thyroid hormones were investigated, and comparable results were found. Scintigram and negative thyroid auto-antibodies ruled
out Graves’ disease. Normal anterior pituitary
hormone levels and a hypophysial MRI ruled out
a pituitary adenoma. Drug-induced hyperthyroidism and acute non-thyroidal disease were not
taken into consideration. His brother, his son, and
his daughter had incompatible thyroid hormone
concentrations as the index case (Table I)
Surrogate-Based Design Optimization of Multi-Band Antenna
In this work, design optimization process of a multi-band antenna via the use of artificial neural network (ANN) based surrogate model and meta-heuristic optimizers are studied. For this mean, first, by using Latin-Hyper cube sampling method, a data set based on 3D full wave electromagnetic (EM) simulator is generated to train an ANN-based model. By using the ANNbased surrogate model and a meta-heuristic optimizer invasive weed optimization (IWO), design optimization of a multi-band antenna for (1) 2.4-3.6 GHz for ISM, LTE, and 5G sub-frequencies, and (2) 9-10 GHz for X-band applications is aimed. The obtained results are compared with the measured and simulated results of 3D EM simulation tool. Results show that the proposed methodology provides a computationally efficient design optimization process for design optimization of multiband antennas. © 2022 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).
