Este contributo foi corroborado pela realização de um inquérito SUS, que confirma a validade da solução desenvolvidaThe exceptional rise in cybercriminal activities exploiting web application vulnerabilities has intensified the need for organizations to strengthen their security policies throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). GreenCanvas: 3D Model Plant Generator System Based on Drawings

    No full text
The generation of three-dimensional plant models is increasingly important for applications in agriculture, scientific visualization, landscape design, and immersive virtual environments. Existing approaches often rely on specialized hardware or sensor data, and publicly available models are limited, repetitive, or constrained to specific species, limiting creative flexibility. This dissertation addresses these challenges by focusing on sketch-based plant modelling as an accessible and flexible approach. A systematic review of state-of-the-art methods was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, identifying two main directions: sketch-based modelling and tree generation from photographic data. Insights from this review informed the design of a novel framework that integrates single- and multi-sketch strategies to generate 3D plant models from user drawings. The framework was implemented as a Blender add-on, supporting features such as variable levels of detail, leaf propagation, and generation of multiple model variations, while providing a streamlined and intuitive interface. The add-on was evaluated through quantitative and qualitative analyses. Task completion times demonstrated efficient modelling, and a mean System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 56.4 indicated moderate usability. Correlations with demographic factors revealed influences of user experience, background, and familiarity with input devices on usability. Qualitative feedback highlighted areas for improvement in feature intuitiveness and onboarding. Despite a limited and unevenly distributed participant sample, the results indicate that the framework is a promising tool for procedural plant modelling and can enhance creative workflows for users of varying expertise. This work contributes both a systematic understanding of visual-based plant modelling approaches and a practical tool that bridges sketching and 3D model creation, providing a foundation for future enhancements such as AI-assisted sketch interpretation, expanded plant element support, and improved interface features

    Gender Equality and Stock Returns

    No full text
This dissertation examines the relationship between gender equality in corporate governance and stock market performance in the European context. Motivated by the growing relevance of diversity in corporate boards and its recognition within Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks, the study explores whether gender equality is associated with superior stock returns. The analysis focuses on publicly listed companies in the STOXX Europe 600 index between 2014 and 2024, a period marked by important regulatory developments, including the European Union Directive on Gender Balance in Corporate Boards. The research adopts a quantitative, explanatory, and correlational design. Firm-level data on board gender composition were collected from LSEG Workspace (LSEG Data & Analytics), while financial data were obtained from Datastream. The empirical analysis employs panel data regressions to estimate the impact of gender equality on both raw returns and risk-adjusted returns, the latter calculated through Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and the Fama-French three- and five-factor models. Control variables such as firm size, leverage, book-to-market ratio, and beta were included, and robustness checks were conducted to validate the results. The findings indicate that gender equality on boards, measured by the percentage of women directors, does not exert a statistically significant effect on stock returns. Although the coefficients often show a positive direction, the results suggest that gender diversity is not yet perceived by investors as a direct driver of financial market performance in the short term. Instead, stock returns appear to be more strongly influenced by traditional firm-level and market factors. These results align with prior studies reporting neutral or inconclusive effects of gender diversity on financial outcomes, while reinforcing the broader value of gender equality for governance, legitimacy, and long-term sustainability

Seeking Something Beyond Themselves: A Concept Analysis of Spiritual Awakening Experiences at the End of Life

    No full text
Article number - 358Background/Objectives: End-of-life (EoL) experiences are critically important for everyone involved, giving rise to a set of needs that extend far beyond bio-physiological aspects, to encompass the spiritual dimension as the core of human beings. Understanding the processes of spiritual awakening (SA) assists palliative care professionals in enhancing the quality of care provided to individuals with life-threatening illnesses, as well as to their families. SA is a fundamental occurrence linked to the fulfilment of our spiritual needs when facing an existential crisis, such as the proximity of death. However, its conceptual boundaries need to be clarified to provide qualified and humanized palliative care. Therefore, this study aims to identify the key attributes, antecedents, consequents, and empirical referents of SA at EoL, as well as to clarify the concept’s existing ambiguities. Methods: Walker and Avant’s eight-step concept analysis was used. A literature search was conducted in May 2025 across three databases (PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus). Results: Following the review, 21 articles were included for analysis. The concept analysis revealed four main attribute domains: (1) sensory–perceptual domain; (2) affective/cognitive domain; (3) relational domain; and (4) transcendental domain. Moreover, spiritual consciousness and the existential matrix were antecedents to this concept; revaluation of beliefs, finding spiritual serenity and inner freedom, fostering spiritual growth, and the desire to leave a legacy were its consequences. Conclusions: The concept of SA at the EoL reveals itself to be a complex and multifactorial phenomenon, with a profound impact on a person’s confrontation with finitude. Recognizing and integrating SA into palliative care allows for a more comprehensive understanding of human consciousness. To deal with SA experiences in healthcare settings, a multifaceted approach is needed. This encompasses acknowledging spirituality as a determinant of health, including spiritual care in standard practice, and offering education and training on spiritual care competence for healthcare practitioners. Further transdisciplinary research should be undertaken to explore SA phenomenological variations, guide clinical interventions, and evaluate SA impacts on spiritual well-being and spiritual growth. It was also supported by FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. O Impacto da Descentralização Administrativa na Capacidade de Resposta das Unidades Locais de Proteção Civil: Perspetivas para o aperfeiçoamento das políticas públicas e de proteção

    No full text
Conclui-se que um modelo híbrido, que combine autonomia local com coordenação central, poderá ser o caminho mais promissor para uma Proteção Civil mais eficaz, participativa e sustentável.his dissertation examines the impact of administrative decentralization on the response capacity of Local Civil Protection Units (ULPC) in Portugal, with a particular focus on the Leiria Region. Starting from the administrative reorganization of parishes and the recent restructuring of the civil protection system, the study aims to understand how administrative proximity and local autonomy influence the efficiency, speed, and coordination of emergency responses. The research followed a qualitative methodology, using semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and legal review to identify the main challenges faced by ULPCs, such as limited resources, lack of standardized regulations, and the coordination between governance levels. The findings show that, despite the progress achieved through decentralization, significant limitations persist in the implementation and operation of ULPCs, particularly regarding their integration into the national civil protection system, training and network communications. The study also identifies local best practices which, if institutionally supported and replicated, could strengthen territorial resilience and support the development of more effective public policies aligned with community needs. The conclusion suggests that a hybrid model, combining local autonomy with centralized coordination, may offer the most promising path for a more effective, participatory, and sustainable civil protection framework

    No full text
The extraction of bioactive compounds from marine natural products has gained increasing attention due to their diverse applications, such as in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. Yet, low extraction yields and toxicity associated with common solvents are a major bottleneck. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) have emerged as promising green alternatives to conventional organic solvents, offering advantages such as biodegradability, greater environmental and economic sustainability, low toxicity, and enhanced extraction selectivity. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the principles, physicochemical properties, and applications of DESs/NADESs to obtain bioactive compounds from marine organisms. Among the most recent works, it is possible to verify the success of NADESs to extract carrageenan from the seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii; pigments from Palmaria palmata; and polyphenols and proteins from different brown seaweeds. NADESs have also shown high potential to extract other valuable compounds from marine by-products, such as chitin from crabs and shrimp shells, and also lipids and proteins from different fish species and protein rich extracts from tilapia viscera. The challenges for DESs/NADESs use at industrial scale are also discussed, and success cases are revealed, highlighting their potential as game changers for extracting bioactive compounds from marine organisms and driving the development of innovative biotechnological products. This work was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through the Strategic Projects granted to the MARE—Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre—(DOI 10.54499/UIDP/04292/2020 and DOI 10.54499/UIDB/04292/2020), to the Associate Laboratory ARNET (DOI 10.54499/LA/P/0069/2020), and the SEA-UP project (https://doi.org/10.54499/2023.13029.PEX).
