This paper reports on three studies of the existing medieval gyokuden (inner sanctuary) in the main shrine of Miyayama-hachiman Shrine in Misonou Saijo-cho Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. 1. Detailed architectural technique was revealed by the survey of the gyokuden, which has been previously unidentified. 2. Characteristics of the gyokuden and the date of its construction were determined by comparing the design and techniques of this gyokuden with those of medieval gyokuden in Aki Province. 3. The history of the restoration of the gyokuden and its relationship to the shrine was clarified from historical records. From these, we have concluded that this gyokuden was built in the early 15th century because, despite its small size and the small size of the misedana, many ancient features such as the shape of the roof, the presence of the misedana, and the design and technique of the gyokuden were identified. By restoring this gyokuden to its original state, it was found that the shrine was in the form of nikensha and two deities were enshrined at the time of its creation. The present roofing materials and changes of the gyokuden can be explained in accordance with the history of the shrine after its establishment

Strategic integration of vertiport planning in multimodal transportation for urban air mobility: A case study in Beijing, China

    No full text
In pursuit of strategic sustainable development goals, this study seeks to analyze the spatial placement of vertiports for urban air mobility, positioning them as integral components within the multimodal transportation system. We propose an iterative weighted k-means clustering method that incorporates the value of travel time of different transportation modes to identify potential vertiport locations. A multi-objective optimization model that maximizes total air taxi ridership and minimizes total facility costs and travel distances to vertiports is developed considering the constraints of the distance from vertiports to existing mobility hubs. A case study is conducted using the data of Beijing city, incorporating the modes of taxis and metro. We found that 19 vertiports can guarantee a robust performance of urban air mobility service. Users of urban air mobility can benefit from substantial travel time savings of 80% (48 min on average). This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the optimal setting of urban air mobility facilities from the perspective of network synchronization, offering useful insights into policy decision-making for sustainable infrastructure planning. We would like to thank the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan to provide the MEXT scholarship for this research

Effects of E-Mentoring on Japanese clerical employees’ vocational identity during teleworking

    No full text
This study examined the effect of e-mentoring on vocational identity during teleworking; it clarified the relationship between teleworkers’ vocational identity and e-mentoring compared with that of non-teleworkers according to career stage. An online survey was conducted and measured vocational identity and mentoring function (career function and psychosocial function). Collected data from 419 clerical workers (211 teleworkers, 208 non-teleworkers) who had a mentor or a protégé were analyzed. The results of multiple-group structural equation model suggested that in the early career stage, it was especially important for teleworkers to receive psychosocial functions from mentors as protégés. At the late career stage, it was necessary for teleworkers to provide psychosocial functions to protégés as mentors; at that stage, it was important for non-teleworkers to offer career functions. The results also suggested that toward developing vocational identity, the mentoring relationship was more important for teleworkers, who easily become isolated, than for non-teleworkers

    困難な歴史を展示する博物館における教育の意味の再考 : 記念的博物館教授学から見える日本の博物館の課題を手掛かりに

    No full text
This research aims to reconsider the meaning of education in museums exhibiting difficult histories by analyzing their exhibition utilizing Julia Rose’s (2016) commemorative museum pedagogy (hereafter, CMP). Five museums in Japan were analyzed based on the “5R” (Reception, Resistance, Repetition, Reflection, and Reconsideration) of CMP, which is the response pattern of visitors at the museums, and the “toolbox” (Other, Face, Real, and Narrative) of CMP, which is a collection of tools that the museums utilize to deliver their message to their visitors and that visitors can use to create their ethical representation of the difficult histories. The result shows that the case museums in Japan effectively delivered their messages to their visitors; however, they did not provide enough opportunities for visitors to critically understand the exhibition of the difficult histories. Although the museums played educational roles in a society by suggesting the excavation of unheard voices and stressing the importance of living alongside others with different narratives focused on social justice, they can expand their educational roles by including the “possibility of criticism” in their exhibitions. In detail, they can intentionally exhibit difficult histories with the nuance that the museum’s exhibition is a way of interpreting history so visitors can critically understand it. Also, the museum can provide educational programs in which visitors can debrief their museum observations and ethically represent their understanding of difficult histories. When designing their programs, museums can utilize CMP and the CMP-based analysis of the five museums from this research as a reference. Finally, other agents, such as schools and education-related NGOs, are utilizing museums as learning materials; by collaborating with them, museums can expand their educational roles further
