This study aims to define the terms, “the outline” and “the main points” in the Course of Study for Foreign Languages. In the Course of Study, it is required to develop students’ ability to grasp “the outline” and “the main points” of English passages. These terms have been the keywords for developing reading comprehension ability, but many instructors are unsure about what these terms express because of their ambiguity. This study defines these terms by focusing on the structure of the explanatory texts

    (A) This paper examines the history and outline of Arayama Umaya, a post station in the ancient San’yōdō located in the eastern part of Aki District. Due to a lack of historical documents, the actual image of this post station cannot be verified. However, it is evident that this post station was initially managed directly by Aki Kokuga (Aki provincial government) since there is no ‘Go’- a minimum unit in the ritsuryō provincial administrative system - of the people mainly responsible for its operation in the neighborhood. (B) After the civil wars of the Jisho and Juei eras at the end of the Heian period, the land and people of this post station were integrated into the Seno Arayama Shō (private estate) and administered by the Ozuki clan, who were efficient officials of the Imperial Court. Consequently, the residents of Arayama village were tasked with ‘kugō’ and ‘teisō’ - supply and transportation - for court envoys traveling on the San’yōdō and for envoys sent from the Ozuki clan to the estate. They were responsible for providing lodging, food, and transporting their luggage. (C) However, the jitōdai, who directly governed this estate, attempted to expand the power of the jitō side within the estate by assigning these tasks to the emerging farmers of the neighboring village of Kamiseno. On the other hand, these farmers demanded the self-governance of their “Ichikichi beppu,” one of the administrative units of the estate, or “beppu,” which were allowed to operate independently in exchange for payment of a certain amount of taxes. (D) Due to the differences in the way of thinking about estate management in the Seno River basin, a conflict arose between the jitō side and the people who cultivated the ‘Ichikichi-beppu’ in Kamiseno Village. In the mid-13th century, the villagers’ claim was recognized by the Imperial Court and the Kamakura Shogunate. As a result, the transportation hub of the area shifted from Arayama Village to ‘Ichikichi-beppu’ in Kamiseno Village. (E) This paper demonstrates that the change was not only due to the agricultural activities and transportation maintenance of the people in the Seno River basin, but also due to the active cooperation of the priests of the Itsukushima Shrine, which was gaining power in Aki Province, based on ancient documents produced and transmitted in the 13th centur

By comparing the tea utensils of Chaozhou Gongfu Tea and Japanese Sencha-do, this paper has two key findings. First, both tea cultures share a common core set of tea utensils. This similarity is rooted in the shared origin of Chaozhou Gongfu Tea and Japanese Sencha-do, both tracing their histories back to Fujian Gongfu Tea. Second, the two tea cultures differ in terms of their uses of tea utensils. Chaozhou Gongfu Tea emphasizes the simplicity and practicality of the tea utensils. Those utensils have evolved and innovated in response to changes in lifestyles. On the other hand, Japanese Sencha-do encompasses a diverse range of tea utensils, but they are seldom used in daily life. This distinction arises from the inherent practicality of Chaozhou Gongfu Tea, and the tea utensils are closely connected to everyday life. In contrast, Japanese Sencha-do, as one of Japan’s traditional art forms and a staged artistic expression, features a non-daily nature. It relies on numerous utensils to create an intended atmosphere and accomplish a desired performance.本研究は潮州市哲学社会科学“十四五”規劃2023年度課題「潮州工夫茶文化源流研究」(2023-A-12)の助成を受けて実施した

This study examines the impact of teachers’ participation in in-school training on their self-efficacy and emotional exhaustion. The training focused on social support and was conducted six times, incorporating both instrumental and emotional support. The changes in teachers were examined through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews from theoretical descriptions derived from SCAT analysis. The results revealed the following: First, training in understanding students that provided 30 minutes of social support had the potential to increase teachers’ self-efficacy and was an effective support measure for reducing feelings of emotional exhaustion. Second, increased opportunities for teachers to interact with each other led to the formation of relationships among them, and the daily social support provided to teachers increased the likelihood that they would be able to work with each other. Second, we inferred that increased opportunities for interaction lead to the formation of relationships among teachers, and increased provision of social support on a daily basis reduces the sense of emotional exhaustion by increasing psychological safety

The Imakoyasan main gate stands at the entrance of Imakoyasan. It was designated as a cultural property of Hiroshima Prefecture in 1959. In this study, we surveyed the main gate, and conducted extensive research of related historical records. According to marks left on the components when it was first built, the Imakoyasan main gate was a Shikyakumon (four-legged gate), but was later rebuilt into a Niomon (gate of two Deva Kings). According to the old records, the main gate was built around 1418, and is believed to have been reconstructed in 1556. The main gate was later restored extensively in 1670. We can say that some building components were replaced during this restoration. The roof was also re-done in 1690 and 1716. However, most of the components used in the existing roof were replaced during modern restorations. At present, the important parts of the building such as pillars of the main gate, have been severely damaged. Urgent repairs are necessary to preserve this important cultural property for future generations

A small number of malignant lymphoma cells detected in urine cytology and the characteristic cytological findings: A case of urinary tract involvement of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

Cases in which malignant lymphoma (ML) is detected in urine cytology are rare; to the best of our knowledge, only eight cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that were detected on urine cytology have been reported. Herein, we report a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) that was detected on urine cytology, focusing on the cytological findings. A 75-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of fever. Computed tomography showed a dense soft tissue lesion in the right lower ureter. Right hydronephrosis, a thickened bladder wall, and enlargement of the para-aortic, right external iliac, and inguinal lymph nodes were also observed. Clinically, upper tract or bladder urothelial carcinoma was suspected and urine cytology was performed. A small number of isolated atypical cells were detected, which showed high nuclear–cytoplasmic ratios, nuclear membrane irregularities, fine chromatin, and enlarged prominent nucleoli with scant clear cytoplasm. Liquid-based cytology with immunocytochemistry revealed that the atypical cells were positive for LCA and negative for CK AE1/AE3, suggesting the possibility of ML. In addition to urine cytology, atypical cells were observed in the urine sediment test. Bladder and inguinal lymph node biopsies were performed and a histological diagnosis of DLBCL (NOS, activated B-cell subtype) was made. Familiarity with and recognition of the characteristic cytopathological findings of ML on urine cytology are important for making a correct diagnosis
