    No full text
Learning motivation in social studies is still low due to the abstract nature of the concepts. This study investigated the effect of VITUR SAJA (Samudro Jawar Temple Virtual Tour) as a learning medium on students’ learning motivation in social studies at SMPN 18 Malang. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class using VITUR SAJA and a control class using PowerPoint (PPT). Data collection involved a learning motivation questionnaire and observation of students’ motivation using ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction) indicators. Statistical analysis through SPSS 30.0, including normality, homogeneity, and independent sample t-test, revealed that VITUR SAJA significantly increased students’ learning motivation (Sig. <0.001), lower than 0.05. Consequently, the null hypothesis was rejected, confirming the existence of differences in learning motivation between the experimental and control groups. ARCS observations showed that VITUR SAJA increased attention and relevance, strengthened interaction, and created a more active and enjoyable learning environment. This is because there is a feature of the learning media, namely, virtual reality in the temple. It is recommended for media developers and educators to adapt the VITUR SAJA model to other social studies topics

Enhancing Reading Literacy Among Generation Z Students Through the Case Method: A Literature Review

    No full text
Reading literacy is crucial because low literacy contributes to social problems. While Gen Z is technologically adept, this can ironically hinder their reading literacy. Indonesian students’ reading literacy remains low, as evidenced by declining PISA scores. This literature review of nine studies (2019-2024) explores the case method’s potential to improve reading literacy among Gen Z students. The case method fosters critical thinking, problem solving, and engagement, indirectly enhancing reading comprehension by requiring analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of texts in real-world contexts. This study contributes to the discussion of effective pedagogical approaches for Gen Z and offers educators insights for strengthening reading literacy through innovative methods

Tetrasomy 18p Syndrome: A Rare Case with Congenital Hypoplasia of the Depressor Angularis Oris

    No full text
Introduction: Tetrasomy 18p syndrome is an extremely rare chromosomal disorder where there are four copies of chromosome 18 instead of two due to the presence of isochromosome 18p. We aim to report a case of tetrasomy 18p with unusual phenotypic presentation with congenital hypoplasia of depressor angularis oris muscle. Case Report: We present a case of a neonatal boy with tetrasomy 18p syndrome, who was initially admitted for bilateral undescended testes. This syndrome has been found to have variability in its clinical features. The patient was found to have soft dysmorphic features, feeding difficulty, congenital hypoplasia of the depressor angularis oris muscle, growth retardation, hypotonia, and jaundice. During follow-up, he was found to have strabismus, hearing loss, failure to thrive, and global developmental delay. Conclusion: We compared the phenotypic characteristics of our case with previously reported cases of this syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, congenital hypoplasia of the depressor angularis oris has not been reported previously as a phenotypic characteristic of this syndrome and might be considered a diagnostic feature if more cases are reported in the future. Additionally, it is easy to miss such cases, as some neonates do not present with typical dysmorphic features that would prompt a karyotype analysis

Design Thinking Approach for Better User Experience: A Systematic Review

    No full text
Design thinking works well in user experience (UX) design, but there are few empirical studies on it. Thus, a systematic literature review is needed to understand the research topic better and recommend future research. The review followed the PRISMA 2020 Statement. The selected database is Scopus as it covers reputable publications. The search terminology is “design thinking” AND “experience” OR UX AND app OR application. The final set consisted of 10 publications. According to the Scopus Database, there was a significant increase in research studies on this topic from 2012 to 2022. The trend has continued to increase, indicating that research on design thinking approaches in UX design has become a hot topic for research and discussion. This paper found that Design Thinking is an essential component of user experience design and is used across various topics and industries. However, graphic design remains an unexplored area for research, presenting opportunities for further study. Keywords: design thinking, user experience, systematic literature revie

    Literature Review of Batik Garutan

    No full text
Batik Garutan is a legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation and developed before the independence period. Along with the times, the resulting motifs followed the changing patterns of society at that time; for example, popular trends were used as inspiration in Batik Garutan motifs, for example, Tiga Dara Batik and Apollo Batik. Even though it looks as if anything can be used as inspiration for batik, this is since Batik Garutan does not have a standard of elements required to be present in the manufacturing process. The research process uses the double diamond theoretical framework divided into four creative processes: discover, define, develop, and deliver. The study results show that the motifs in Batik Garutan have characteristics even though they do not have a standard for the motifs. This research can be used as a reference for designers to develop motif designs as inspiration for works so that Batik Garutan can be known more widely. Keywords: batik, batik garutan, literature review, visual analysi

    Illuminating Urban Kampung in Indonesia

    No full text
This paper examines the road lighting design practice in Indonesia’s urban kampung, which is one of the important elements that shape and define an Indonesian city. However, it appears that the current road illumination standard disregards its existence and creates regulations based on the requirements of motorist. In contrast, urban kampung roads are more intricate due to their frequent use as shared spaces. The research explains the issue by utilizing a literature review and a case study of urban kampung Siwalankerto as an illustration. Even though the placement of streetlights and the measurement of average illuminance comply with SNI standards, there is no significant correlation between the perception of safety and the quantity of light deemed adequate by residents. This finding contradicts the primary function of street illumination, which is to promote night-time safety. Keywords: urban kampung, road lighting, illumination, lighting regulatio

    No full text
Wacinwa or Wayang Cina Jawa is one of the artifacts that resemble the traditional Javanese shadow puppet’ show with traditional Chinese elements. Originally created by master Gwan Thwan Seng in 1937, this unique performance disappeared later after Soeharto’s New Order Regime triumphant in Indonesia in 1967. For many years some academics and shadow puppet’s artists have been trying to bring back this artefact and reintroduce it to younger generations nowadays. Unfortunately, because of the extinction of this kind of puppet show, the academics and the artists then also try to recreate and reconstruct it. This research also tries to recreate Wacinwa in animation, based on how the puppet moves after doing some research using qualitative research with reinterpretation and adaptation theory. What the research finds is that animation could bring back Wacinwa in a modern approach. Keywords: Wacinwa, animation, shadow puppet, cultural heritag
