Utilization of GIS Technology for Mapping Flood-Prone Areas in Ambon Island, Indonesia
Flooding is one of the most common natural disasters in Indonesia, including on Ambon Island, which can cause significant economic and social losses. This research aims to map flood-prone areas on Ambon Island using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to map flood hazards and affected residential areas. This research uses variables of elevation, slope, rainfall, land cover, distance from rivers, and soil type. The weighted overlay method was used to produce maps of flood hazards and affected areas. The results showed that the low class flood had an area of 58,114.44 ha, the medium class had an area of 14,066.44 ha, and the high class had an area of 4,733.31 ha, while the built-up land area affected by flooding in the low class had an area of 907.92 ha, the medium class had an area of 3,445.92 ha, and the high class had an area of 1,681.40. The results of this study are expected to make a meaningful contribution to disaster risk management policies on Ambon Island and other areas with similar characteristics
Systematics Literature Review: The Application of Ethnomathematics in Batik Art for Understanding Geometric Concepts
Ethnomathematics, which studies the application of mathematical concepts in a cultural context, can enrich understanding and enhance meaningful learning. This study aims to explore ethnomathematics in batik art as a foundation for developing a relevant and engaging mathematics curriculum. It employs a systematic literature review (SLR) approach to identify, review, and evaluate studies related to ethnomathematics in batik motifs that are published between 2017-2024. The findings indicate that various batik motifs contain geometric concepts such as transformations (translation, rotation, reflection), plane figures (square, rectangle, circle, triangle, rhombus, trapezoid), congruence, similarity, and graph theory. Batik motifs incorporate these concepts, making them an effective medium for teaching mathematics in a local cultural context. The integration of batik motifs into the mathematics curriculum is expected to make learning more relevant and engaging while enhancing students’ appreciation of local cultural heritage
Formulating Green Bean and Purple Sweet Potato Snack Bars to Prevent Diabetes Mellitus
One of the leading causes of the rising prevalence of diabetes mellitus is an imbalance in dietary intake, particularly the consumption of high-sugar, low-fiber foods, which can significantly elevate blood glucose 2 hours post-prandial. In contrast, high-fiber foods with a low glycemic index can help prevent such spikes. Snack bars offer a promising vehicle for delivering high dietary fiber, especially when made from ingredients with a low glycemic index, such as green beans and purple sweet potatoes. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of snack bars made from purple sweet potatoes and mung beans to prevent increases in blood sugar associated with diabetes mellitus. This study used Five formulations were developed using various ratios of purple sweet potato flour and mung bean flour. P0 (100:0), P1 (75:25), P2 (50:50), P3 (25:75), and P4 (0:100). The snack bars were analyzed for anthocyanin content, amylose content, and acceptance test. Results showed that the 50:50 formulation (P2) had the highest amylose content, while the formulation made entirely from purple sweet potato flour (P0) had the highest anthocyanin content and received the highest acceptance ratings from the panel. These findings suggest that purple sweet potato and mung bean- based snack bars have potential as functional foods for managing blood glucose levels
Hypoglycemic Effect of Sago Starch and Red Bean Flour-based Analogue Rice on Diabetic Rats with STZ-NA Induction
Resistant starch is known to reduce blood glucose levels. Analogue rice formulated from sago starch and red bean flour has been reported to contain high levels of resistant starch. This study evaluated the hypoglycemic effects and mechanisms of such rice in diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin-nicotinamide (STZ-NA). Thirty-five male Wistar rats were divided into five groups with specific diets: a healthy control group (KS) fed standard feed, and diabetic groups fed standard feed (DSTD), boiled rice (DBMW), 100% sago starch-based analogue rice (DBS), or 90% sago starch and 10% red bean flour-based analogue rice (DBSKM). Interventions lasted 4 weeks, with weekly monitoring of blood glucose levels, biweekly assessment of insulin resistance via the HOMA-IR index, and final analysis of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations in cecal digesta. An in-vitro glucose absorption assay using an inverted ileo-anal pouch was also conducted. The DBS group achieved the greatest blood glucose reduction (56%), while DBSKM showed the most significant improvement in insulin resistance, reducing the HOMA-IR index by 81%. Conversely, the DSTD group exhibited a 10% increase in the index. SCFA concentrations were higher (P < 0.05) in DBS (133 mmol/L) and DBSKM (95 mmol/L) than DBMW (61 mmol/L). Glucose absorbability was significantly lower in DBS (13%) and DBSKM (16%) than DBMW (56%) (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that the hypoglycemic effects and improved insulin sensitivity in rats fed the analogue rice were associated with increased SCFA production and reduced glucose absorption, likely due to the rice’s high resistant starch content
Characterization of Protein Isolate from the Swim Bladder of Giant Catfish Obtained via Alkaline Extraction Method
The swim bladder, or air bladder, is an internal gas-filled organ commonly found in most large marine fish, including the giant catfish (Arius thalassinus). During fish processing, the swim bladder is often discarded as a byproduct. Fresh swim bladders contain protein levels ranging from 12–33%, and when dried, they are marketed as fish maw. Fish maw has significant potential to be further processed into a high-value fish protein isolate (FPI). This study aimed to produce and characterize protein isolate derived from the fish maw of A. thalassinus using the alkaline extraction method. The results showed that fish maw flour contains 11.20% moisture, 85.3% protein, 0.94% ash, 0.94% fat, and 1.59% carbohydrates. It is also a rich source of amino acids, including glycine (16.6%), L-proline (9.4%), L-alanine (8%), L-arginine (8%), L-glutamic acid (8.1%), and L-threonine (4%). The FPI produced via the alkaline extraction method exhibited a protein content of 91%, with solubility of 66.94% in water, 56.65% in acidic solvents, and 80.64% in basic solvents. Additionally, the FPI demonstrated a water-holding capacity of 1.44 ± 0.09 g/g and an oil-holding capacity of 0.54 ± 0.05 g/g
Bibliotherapy Technique Group Counseling Approach to Al-Qur'an to Reduce Student Academic Anxiety
Academic anxiety in students arises due to the many tasks that must be done following the demands implemented in higher education. Various factors that increase a person’s academic anxiety include learning experience, age, gender, and the size of the stressor. Symptoms that appear in individuals who experience anxiety include difficulty sleeping, difficulty concentrating, feeling sleepy easily, and so on. One of the guidance and counseling services that counselors can provide for students who experience academic anxiety is group counseling services using bibliotherapy techniques using the Al-Qur’an approach. This research uses quantitative research methods with a pre-experimental research design, one group pre-test, post-test design. The population was 146 BKPI (Bimbingan Konseling Pendidikan Islam) students and the sample consisted of 8 students whose academic anxiety was in the high category according to the pre-test results. Post-test results show that students’ academic anxiety after being treated was in the low category. The Wilcoxon test results show that the Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) probability number is 0.042, smaller than 0.005, which means the hypothesis is accepted. Bibliotherapy group counseling using the Al-Qur’an approach is a service that can reduce students’ academic anxiety. The implication is to read verses in the Al-Qur’an relevant to the academic problems students face
Effectiveness of Group Counseling Through Audio Visual Media to Reduce Smartphone Addiction
Group counseling is the process of providing assistance carried out by an expert or counselor to several individuals of a small group consisting of 8-10 people who have the same problems and need similar help, leading to the resolution of these problems. Addiction is a condition where a person cannot control the desire or need to carry out an activity. Smartphone addiction can cause social problems such as withdrawal, as well as difficulties in carrying out daily activities such as time management or a disturbance in one’s own impulse control. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of group counseling using audiovisual media to reduce smartphone addiction among students at SMA Negeri 1 Sidomulyo. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental and the nonequivalent control group designs. The population in this study was 300 students of class XI IPS, with a sample size of 75 students consisting of 38 students of class XI IPS 1 and 37 students of class XI IPS 2. The average pre-test score on smartphone addiction for experimental group students was 54.2, which dropped to 71.342 after participating in group counseling with audiovisual. From the results of the Wilcoxon non-parametric test using SPSS version 25, Asymp results were obtained. Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 in the experimental group, where 0.000 < 0.05 which means H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. We concluded that group counseling using audiovisual media was effective for smartphone addiction in class XI IPS 1 and class XI IPS 2 students at SMA Negeri 1 Sidomulyo for the 2023/2024 academic year
Innovation in Communication at Pesantren for Women's Empowerment and Sustainable Development
Pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) play a crucial role in Islamic education but still face challenges in women’s empowerment, which is essential for sustainable development. The primary obstacles are the gap in access to and quality of education for women in pesantren and a lack of effective communication innovations. This study aims to identify and implement communication innovations that support women’s empowerment in pesantren. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis from pesantren caregivers, teachers, female students, and education experts. Three pesantren with women’s empowerment programs were selected: Darussalamah Pesantren in East Lampung, Istiqomah Al-Amin Pesantren in South Lampung, and Imadul Bilad Putri ‘Aisyiyah Imadul Bilad Pesantren in Metro City. The results show that digital technology, skills training programs, and participatory approaches increase women’s participation. Collaboration with external organizations also accelerates the integration of innovations. In conclusion, communication innovations in pesantren effectively support women’s empowerment and contribute to sustainable development
Public Participation in Legal Enforcement of Wildlife Protection in Indonesia
Indonesia has committed to implement the sustainable development goals (SDG) by 2030, including the ending trafficking of protected species and addressing the illegal wildlife demand and supply. The public plays a crucial role in wildlife protection. There remains a misconception that the impact of wildlife exploitation on ecosystems does not directly affect human communities. Furthermore, this issue is exacerbated by the public’s perception that violations related to wildlife trade do not carry serious consequences. This paper highlights the importance of legal awareness among the public using the doctrinal method of legal research. This involves rigorous analysis and creative synthesis, the making of connection between seemingly disparate doctrinal strands, and the challenge of extracting general principles from an inchoate mass of primary materials. Wildlife protection becomes difficult to enforce when society does not perceive any issue with practices that impact the physical, social, and psychological well-being of endangered animals. To address these challenges, public participation serves as a bridge to address this gap. Educating the public on the harmful consequences of wildlife trade and captivity is essential to changing societal perceptions
Socio-Economic Construction: Inorganic Waste Valuation Through the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) on Cash Waqf Development
The environment is a place to live that must be maintained and preserved. The lack of public concern in preserving nature can cause environmental pollution and a lot of litter. Data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Indonesia in 2022 show that input results from 202 districts/cities throughout Indonesia have the number of national landfills reaching 21.1 million tons. Of the total national waste production, 65.71% (13.9 million tons) can be managed, while the remaining 34.29% (7.2 million tons) have not been managed properly the presence of waste bank operations with sharia economic principles is one of the efforts to realize a clean, beautiful and healthy environment. In its operational system, Sharia Waste Bank (BSS) have several waste management programs that can generate profits in the form of cash. The purpose of this study is to provide a new program idea in the form of waqf savings from the sale of inorganic waste. This research uses qualitative research and development (R&D) methods to analyze operational activities and new programs that can be designed through BSS. The results showed that several programs contained in the BSS both at the regional level and several universities in Indonesia have been running well, and with the idea of saving waqf from the sale of inorganic waste, it provides new innovations and alternative cash waqf payments that use money instruments to make it easier for people who want to make waqf payments. Community literacy related to the benefits of waste management can also increase along with the innovation of waqf payment programs with inorganic waste instruments. The waqf payment mechanism uses waste by saving inorganic waste until a minimum of Rp. 10,000 is collected, to be recorded by the staff of the BSS and distributed to partners namely Islamic Financial Institutions Receiving Waqf Money (LKS-PWU) which has connections with the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI)
