Evaluating the Impact of Adding Lee Silverman Voice Treatment BIG into Routine Physiotherapy on Both Motor and Nonmotor Functions in Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease

    No full text
Introduction: Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a disorder that causes both motor and nonmotor symptoms. While PD typically appears in older adults, it can also affect individuals in the later stages of middle age. Traditional drug therapies have side effects and diminishing returns. Exercise, particularly high-intensity programs like Lee Silverman Voice Treatment BIG (LSVT BIG), can enhance motor skills and overall quality of life by recalibrating the sensory system. Method: This research included 40 individuals with PD, who were separated into a control group (standard physiotherapy) and an intervention group (physiotherapy + LSVT-BIG). Participants were from a local hospital, aged between 35 and 70, with stable medication and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores > 20. Exclusions included active exercise programs and severe mental disorders. Participants were evaluated by an LSVT BIG-certified physical therapist and completed surveys on medical history and current issues. Tests included Timed Up & Go (TUG), TUG manual, and TUG cognitive. Both groups received 16 one-hour exercise sessions over 4 weeks. Statistical analyses included Kolmogorov-Smirnov for normality, independent t-test for baseline values, paired-sample t-test for within-group comparisons, and ANCOVA for post-test differences. Results: Demographic and clinical attributes were consistently and normally distributed across groups (p > 0.05). Both groups demonstrated notable improvements across all outcomes (p < 0.05); however, the experimental group had a notably greater improvement in TUG cognitive scores in comparison to the control group (p < 0.05). No side effects occurred. Discussion: TUG cognitive and manual tests highlighted LSVT-BIG’s effectiveness in enhancing dual-task performance. Conclusion: Improvements in various TUG scores for individuals with PD indicate enhanced mobility and dual-task performance, which are crucial for daily activities and overall quality of life for individuals with PD

    No full text
Introduction: One of the most frequent etiologies of an acute abdomen is appendicitis, which ranks as one of the primary reasons for surgical emergencies globally. Goblet cell adenocarcinoma (GCA) of the appendix, is hallmarked for displaying both endocrine and exocrine traits, presenting with symptoms similar to acute appendicitis, complicating its diagnosis before surgery. Case Report: We present a case report of a 61-year-old male with a medical history of benign prostatic hyperplasia and depression who presented lower abdominal pain, fever, and diagnosed with acute appendicitis. A laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. Histopathology revealed GCA of the appendix with Ki-67 proliferative index of 10%. After multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussion and further evaluation, he underwent a right colectomy and hyperthermia intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Conclusion: Goblet cell tumors are rare and often not readily recognized. A multidisciplinary approach including a team of oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and general surgeons is essential for the intricacy of diagnosis and therapy. Patients undergoing appendectomy due to appendicitis need a thorough evaluation of biopsy specimen to exclude malignancy

Applications of Nanoparticles in Endodontics as an Antibacterial Agent: A Mini-review

    No full text
In root canal treatment, removing persistent bacterial biofilm is challenging. Currently, with nanoparticles (NPs) that have antimicrobial activity, we can address this issue. These particles can eliminate the microbes through these actions, including destroying the bacterial wall, increasing cell membrane permeability, stimulating the production of ROS, and avoiding deoxyribonucleic acid replication. So, they could provide good results to have a better prognosis for endodontic treatments. This minireview provides a brief review of NPs ’ mechanisms of action and recent advancements in their applications in Endodontics through their antimicrobial activities. Through the regulated release of ions, NPs break down bacterial walls, increase the permeability of the cell membrane, promote the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and stop the replication of deoxyribonucleic acid. As a result, they have the potential to transform endodontics, achieving better outcomes and ensuring a bright future

Family harmony supports individual growth in many ways and supports the resilience of families now and in the future. This research discusses how family harmony can build stunting-free family resilience and the perspective of Islamic family law in realizing it through the role of Palembang City DPPKB (The Population and Family Planning Control Department). This study uses field research with a qualitative descriptive data analysis approach as well as a case study of Palembang City DPPKB. The results show that family harmony has an important role in building stunting-free family resilience. The important things in building a harmonious family to minimize the occurrence of stunting are parental stability, both material and non-material, appropriate parenting patterns, frequency of family togetherness, and family educational history. By considering the perspective of Islamic family law, Palembang City DPPKB can ensure that the programs are accepted and implemented well by the community. The factors that support the role of DPPKB in achieving stunting-free family resilience include education and information, availability of resources, women’s empowerment, monitoring and evaluation, and cross-sector collaboration. This is also in accordance with the values of Islamic teachings in conducting maqasid asy-syariah, hifdh an-nafs/protection of the soul

    No full text
The Fatwa of Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) on deforestation has significant implications in the context of environmental protection in Indonesia. In this abstract, an analysis of the background, content, implications, and relevance of the MUI fatwa is conducted. The background of this fatwa is influenced by the trend of increasing deforestation in Indonesia, the influence of Islamic cultural values, community demand, ulama consensus, and global environmental concerns. The MUI fatwa states that actions harming the environment and contributing to the climate crisis are considered forbidden, including uncontrolled deforestation and forest burning that damage natural ecosystems. Implications of the MUI fatwa include changes in government policies, influence on industrial practices, strengthening public awareness, and collaboration among institutions to achieve environmental protection goals. However, challenges in implementing and adhering to this fatwa include diverse interpretations, resource limitations, alignment with existing policies and practices, behavioral and habit changes, adaptation to local conditions, and education and awareness of the public. To effectively and sustainably address deforestation, measures such as the strict implementation of forest and land management policies, promotion of sustainable agriculture, and increasing public awareness through education and outreach campaigns are necessary. With solid cooperation among the government, civil society, private sector, and religious institutions like the MUI, we can preserve Indonesia’s natural environment for future generations

The implementation of green marketing for coconut fiber utilization in Aceh, specifically in LhokseumaweCity, remains limited. Efforts to market environmental friendly products from coconut fiber have not been completely successful, leading to a low economic return. MSMEs working in this area continue to face challenges in promoting their products. Although MSME managers have previously tried different media to boost sales and sustain the use of coconut fiber, a limited understanding of green marketing strategies has been a barrier. This study aims to identify the factors influencing purchasing decisions for eco-friendly products made from coconut fiber waste. This research is quantitative, focusing on MSMEs selling agricultural or related products in Lhokseumawe City. A single MSME was sampled, chosen through the saturated sample technique due to the small population size, with 100 respondents selected for the study. Data analysis used multiple linear regression. Findings indicate that green products, green prices, green places, and green promotions all have a significant positive impact on consumer purchasing decisions for eco-friendly coir products in Lhokseumawe City. These results affirm that green marketing concepts play a role in influencing purchasing decisions for coir-based eco-products, highlighting the need for green marketing to enhance public awareness of eco-friendly products, reduce waste, and support a green economy
