Support Systems in International Teaching Practice Programs: Experiences of Students from a Private University
In international teaching practice (ITP), support systems are vital in helping students navigate cultural differences and overcome various challenges while ensuring they meet their professional responsibilities. Although the number of Indonesian university students participating in ITP is on the rise, there is limited research on how support systems from sending institutions are provided. This paper aims to document and describe the strategies employed by a study program at a private university that has extensive experience sending students abroad for teaching practice. This paper examines the role of support systems and seeks to raise awareness about their importance for students in ITP. In 2023, 16 participants and in 2024, 9 participants were involved in the program, providing them with immersive teaching experiences in different cultural and educational environments. Data were gathered through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with all participants, focusing on their challenges, strategies, and skills gained. The findings highlight the crucial role of a strong support system in enhancing participants’ adaptability and professional growth during international teaching experiences. This paper contributes valuable insights into the necessity of comprehensive support systems for students undertaking international teaching practice, emphasizing the importance of structured assistance from sending institutions
Smoking Behavior Among Gen Z Female Students Reviewed Based on the Perspective of the Theory of Planned Behavior
The phenomenon of smoking behavior among students is currently increasing. Various factors are thought to be behind this increasing phenomenon. Smoking is a conscious behavior, therefore this study will use the perspective of the Theory of Planned Behavior. Based on the approach of the Theory of Planned Behavior, a behavior is largely determined by the intensity of the behavior. The intensity itself is influenced by attitudes, subjective norms, and also perceptions of behavioral control. So the purpose of this study is to see the intensity of smoking behavior in female students in Malang City based on the variables of attitude, subjective norms, and perceptions of behavioral control. This study uses a quantitative method with respondents of undergraduate students in Malang City. The sample obtained was 120 female students taken using random sampling techniques. Data analysis used multiple regression analysis. The results of the study showed that attitudes and perceptions of behavioral control had an influence on smoking intensity. Subjective norms had no influence on smoking intensity. This means that the intention to smoke in female students, who are Gen Z, is not influenced by the norms or expectations of those around them
Self-control and Its Correlation With Consumptive Behavior Among BTS ARMY in Malang City
This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-control and consumptive behavior among K-pop band BTS’s fans, known as ‘ARMY’, in Malang City. A quantitative correlational method was employed to investigate the relationship between variables without manipulation. The Spearman’s rho test was used as the data were ordinal and not normally distributed. The sample consisted of 97 respondents, determined using the Lemeshow formula. The results indicated a significant negative relationship between self-control and consumptive behavior (r = -0.376; p = 0.000), suggesting that the higher the self-control, the lower the consumptive behavior. Although the correlation was significant, it was relatively low, indicating the presence of other influencing factors. These findings provide valuable insight for designing interventions to enhance self-control in order to reduce consumptive behavior
The Relationship Between Psychological Well-being and Resilience in Students from Divorced Families
Students undergoing the transition from high school to university often encounter significant challenges. To navigate this critical phase, they require not only family support but also stable psychological conditions. This study explores the relationship between resilience and psychological well-being among students from divorced families. Employing a quantitative approach with a survey method, the study involved 100 Indonesian students selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected using the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) and the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30), both of which had been previously adapted and validated. Data analysis included tests for normality, linearity, heteroscedasticity, multicollinearity, and hypothesis testing. The findings revealed a statistically significant correlation, indicated by a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), suggesting that psychological well-being contributes to the resilience of students with divorced parents. These results highlight the importance of providing adequate support to help these students adapt and manage life’s challenges effectively
The Relationship Between Individual Values and the Big Five Personality Theory Among Islamic-based Elementary School Teachers
Teachers serve as significant socialization agents in society. Understanding teachers’ value structure allows us to evaluate the extent to which the values are aligned with broader social and cultural values. This is important to ensure that the education provided is not only academically relevant but also appropriate to the social and cultural context. Understanding an individual’s values provides insight into their personality that can help predict behavior in certain situations. The relationship between values and personality is considered crucial to building a value-based society. By providing a strong moral and ethical foundation, it is hoped that it will produce a generation that has good character and contributes positively to society. This study aims to examine the relationship between values and personality based on the Big Five Personality theory. The results of this study indicate that extraversion correlates with conformity, benevolence, achievement, stimulation, and security value. Agreeableness is correlated with tradition, benevolence, universalism, and stimulation. Conscientiousness is correlated with conformity, tradition, benevolence, universalism, achievement, stimulation, and security
