Revisiting the New Public Administration Paradigm in Jokowi's Administration: A Systematic Literature Review

    No full text
The current development of public administration is influenced by three main factors namely market pull, governance, and digitalization, which often distracts public administration observers from other fundamental aspects. This article intends to revisit the New Public Administration (NPA) paradigm that focuses on the goals of public administration namely relevance, value, change, and social justice by focusing on contemporary Indonesia. By conducting a systematic literature review of publications released in the last 10 years, this article analyses the discussion of articles that address the pillars of NPA, namely debureaucratization, democratization, delegation, and decentralization (4Ds). The article finds that while there has been significant progress in terms of economic and infrastructure development under President Joko Widodo ( Jokowi), there has been criticism about the lack of attention to democratic values and civil liberties. Efforts to strengthen governance and bureaucratic efficiency in Indonesia have often come at the expense of democratic principles and wider public participation, resulting in less space for civil liberties and tighter controls on dissent or criticism. From these findings, this article calls for a return to the views of scholars such as Frederickson, Crow, and Bryer who emphasize the importance of a more adaptive and value-based public administration design that involves citizen participation as a key component of the system

How Does the Impact of Political and Economic Risks Affect Foreign Investment in ASEAN-7

    No full text
Unstable economic and political conditions can increase uncertainty and potential foreign investment losses. According to Marsh (2019), ASEAN-7 countries (Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Cambodia) have high and medium economic and political risks in ASEAN. An in-depth analysis of foreign investment that is assumed to be correlated with economic and political risk is required. The research methodology used is the Panel Corrected Standard Error (PCSE) as the analysis technique. The results show that economic risk with trade openness indicator positively and significantly affects foreign direct investment. This means that when ASEAN-7 countries have the ability to increase their international trade activities, the flow of FDI will increase. Political risk with political stability indicator has a positive and significant effect on Foreign Direct Investment. This means that good political stability conditions in ASEAN-7 will increase FDI flows to ASEAN-7 countries. The corruption perception index negatively and significantly affects the foreign direct investment. This means that the more corrupt the countries in ASEAN-7, the higher the FDI flow to ASEAN-7 countries

Productivity of Siwalan Farmers in Madura (Past and Now): A Demographic Analysis

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the productivity of siwalan farmers engaged in the production of brown sugar in Aeng Panas village, Madura, Indonesia. The analysis is conducted from social, historical, production, and demographic perspectives. The study seeks to reconstruct the productivity of Siwalan farmers through demographic analysis, highlighting the challenges posed by changes in the agricultural work environment over time, considering that the brown sugar business has been a part of their heritage. The method used is rapid ethnography, incorporating data collected through interviews. The study reveals that changes and expansion of land areas or the adoption of modern work safety technology do not influence the productivity of palm sugar farmers in brown sugar production. Instead, the productivity value is shaped by the labor structure pattern, the working class hierarchy, and the patriarchal mindset, which have undergone minimal changes over time. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding that productivity in this context is largely influenced by labor demographics, specifically the social patterns within the farmer’s work environment

    No full text
This study examined the diagnostic accuracy of the Indonesian Childhood Autism Rating Scale, Second Edition, Standard Version (ID-CARS2-ST) in identifying autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and differentiating it from other neurodevelopmental disorders. The ID-CARS2-ST can be used to develop diagnostic hypotheses and design intervention plans for children with ASD, complementing clinical judgment based on the DSM criteria. This study involved a total of 50 subjects in our clinic, consisting of 25 children diagnosed with ASD and 25 children with other neurodevelopmental disorders. We conducted reliability tests and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the ID-CARS2-ST to determine the optimal standard cutoff point for diagnosing ASD in children. Cronbach’s alpha reliability yielded a result of Ω = 0.937. The optimal ID-CARS2-ST cutoff score was 30, with a sensitivity of 96% and specificity of 88% (AUC = 0.927, P<0.001; Youden’s J = 0.84). Our findings are exciting, and a score of 30 is the same as the original cut-off of the CARS2-ST in identifying ASD

    No full text
Background: Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide and its early detection and management can reduce the prevalence of visual impairment. The present study aims to assess the level of awareness about glaucoma in patients and co-patients attending an eye hospital in Khartoum State, Sudan. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from June to December 2021 on a convenience sample of 220 participants aged 18 to 71. Data were collected using a standardized research tool, summarized numerically (mean, standard deviation, median) and graphically (frequency tables) through SPSS 23, and their reliability was measured through Cronbach’s Alpha tests before generating the scores of knowledge and awareness. A logistic regression analysis assessed the factors associated with glaucoma awareness. Results: Glaucoma awareness was low (9.1%), despite its presence in 3.2% of the study population, highlighting a significant knowledge gap. Awareness of glaucoma was strongly associated with the knowledge that glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness (P = 0.004) and patients with glaucoma (P = 0.02). Despite their contribution to the model prediction based on eight explanatory variables, education level and area of residence were not statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that awareness about glaucoma was low among the Sudanese population. Therefore, it appeals to health authorities and eye care professionals, in partnership with their communities, to promote information about glaucoma to prevent blindness and improve the quality of life of those affected

Legal Protection for Recipients of Live Donations in Mobile Legends Streaming

    No full text
This study examines the legal protection for recipients of live donations in Mobile Legends streaming. The research is motivated by the increasing phenomenon of online gambling sites donating to streamers. Donations were originally intended as gifts from viewers to appreciate and support streamers. However, they have now become a promotional tool for online gambling platforms. For example, a Mobile Legends streamer using the YouTube account Oura Gaming reportedly received as much as 10 million rupiahs from an online gambling site. This raises concerns regarding the legal implications of accepting such donations. This research aims to analyze the practice of live donations in Mobile Legends streaming, determine whether donation recipients have legal protection after receiving donations from online gambling sites, and to examine the legality of accepting donations from gambling sites in both Islamic law and Indonesian positive law. This research employs a qualitative approach using a normative juridical analysis. The findings show Mobile Legends streamers receiving donations from online gambling sites are not legally liable, because these donations are given voluntarily without prior agreements. However, from an Islamic legal perspective, receiving money from a gambling site is not permitted. In contrast, Indonesian positive law does not classify such donations as illegal, because there is no formal collaboration between streamers and gambling agents

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to analyze the pattern of parenting and child education in the view of mubadalah in the Sukarame sub-district of Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. This field research uses a descriptive qualitative method, a type of research that studies the status of human groups, a condition, a class system of thought, an object, and an event that exists in the present. The data in this study are sourced from primary and secondary data through documents, and analyzed using critical descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that the pattern of parenting and child education applied in households in Sukarame village, Bandar Lampung was carried out jointly or equally between husband and wife even though both did not divide roles, jobs, and responsibilities specifically, as everything was done spontaneously based on habits and needs. When it comes to parenting patterns, the majority of respondents applied democratic parenting because parents understand if children have their own skills without distinguishing their gender. Additionally, on child education patterns, the majority of parents applied the pattern of example and advice. The impact of mubadalah on parenting and child education patterns carried out by households in the village of Sukarame illustrates that the patterns applied do not contradict the concept of mubadalah–or equality–which does not view individuals based on their gender, but based on their potential and skills as individuals
