Promoting Compliance with Sustainability Standards in Malaysian Palm Oil Industry through a Collection Centre Model

    No full text
This paper examines the development of a collection centre model for smallholders in the Malaysian palm oil industry. The model aims to ensure compliance with sustainability standards and improve the quality of palm oil production. The model involves several parties, including smallholders, contractors, collection centres, and mills. The requirements for compliance with the model are outlined, with an emphasis on labour regulations, traceability, and pre-grading of fresh fruit bunches. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) plays a crucial role in regulating the industry and issuing licenses for various activities. Several studies have been conducted on the environmental, financial, and innovative aspects of implementing no-deforestation, no-peat, and no-exploitation (NDPE) policies in the industry. The findings suggest that environmental performance and innovation are key drivers of economic value creation that promote NDPE policies. Attitude and awareness also play a significant role in supporting NDPE and engaging with ecopreneurial businesses. Increased awareness of sustainability has a positive effect on NDPE implementation but may also increase costs. Finally, the impact of palm oil on health, social and economic aspects, environment, and biodiversity has been reviewed in the Malaysian context. The collection centre model is a crucial step in ensuring compliance with sustainability standards and improving the quality of palm oil production. Further research is needed to explore the potential of this model for enhancing the sustainability of the palm oil industry

Menambat Semula Hati dan Minda Pengundi: Pemasaran Politik dalam Pilihan Raya Umum Malaysia

    No full text

Cardiovascular Health Information-seeking Intention among Malaysian Youths: A Conceptual Paper

    No full text
Youths receive information from various sources inadvertently every day. A clear understanding of cardiovascular health information sources is important for the government, the private sector, and non-government organisations to devise better strategies to enable information to reach youths effectively. Besides, cardiovascular health information sources also affect youths’ subjective norms, health literacy, attitude towards cardiovascular disease prevention, and cardiovascular health information-seeking intention—these variables are crucial for youths to promote self-management skills. Thus, this conceptual paper aims to examine cardiovascular health information sources, as well as the relationship between information sources and Malaysian youths’ subjective norms, health literacy level, attitude towards cardiovascular disease prevention, and cardiovascular health information-seeking intention. This paper is significant as it can be used as a reference for future researchers, government policymakers, the private sector, and non-government organisations to plan cardiovascular disease campaigns or related activities among youths to optimise the results in reducing cases of cardiovascular disease in Malaysia

Chinglish: Unraveling the Cultural and Cognitive Pattern Differences in Cross-Linguistic Communication

    No full text
English, as a foreign language in China, is often influenced by the first language (L1), which is Chinese, giving rise to the phenomenon of Chinglish. Chinglish, a distinct English variety, significantly differs from standard English in various aspects. The prominent reason for these differences lies in the variance of culture and thinking patterns. Unfortunately, Chinglish impedes effective cross-cultural communication and hinders the advancement of English learners’ proficiency. This study aims to elucidate the current state and specific manifestations of Chinglish concerning vocabulary and syntax from the perspective of cultural and cognitive disparities. The research employs questionnaire surveys and material analysis methods to gather data. Preliminary analysis reveals the widespread prevalence of Chinglish during the English learning process, with the primary vocabulary errors being redundancy, improper word usage, and incorrect collocation. In terms of syntax, word order, tense, and voice are particularly discussed as problematic areas. This paper concludes with suggestions for avoiding Chinglish, aiming to enhance cross-cultural communication and elevate English proficiency levels among Chinese learners

Assessing Creativity-Enhancing Learning Environments: Psychometric Model Validation for Undergraduates

    No full text
This study investigates a proposed measurement model, grounded in Amabile's (1996) componential model of creativity, to explore the causal relationships among perceived learning environments, proactive personality motivation, and creativity index. The study's primary objectives are threefold: i) To evaluate the goodness-of-fit indices of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) measurement model, ii) to examine parameter estimates within the CFA measurement model and iii) to establish discriminant validity for the measured constructs.  The measurement model's fitness is assessed using data collected from a survey of 374 undergraduate students and analyzed through AMOS. Goodness-of-fit indices, including the Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), and Normed Chi-Square (cmin/df), are employed to validate the model's fit with the data.  Additionally, the study investigates convergent and discriminant validity of the instruments by scrutinizing disattenuated correlations among the constructs. Notably, this research expands Amabile's Componential Theory by incorporating proactive personality into the model.  The study's findings hold potential value for enhancing program syllabuses, co-curricular activities, and soft-skill enhancement programs within higher learning institutions

    No full text
The role of ESL vocabulary plays in language competence and literacy development is increasingly prevalent in language acquisition studies, especially so within the domain of second language acquisition research. In Malaysia, generally, the young learners face difficulties in their learning is due to their scarce vocabulary knowledge. This quasi-experimental study scrutinizes how the employment of images in Malaysian primary school level ESL classrooms via the adapted Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) effects on students’ ESL vocabulary breadth development. Both the experimental group (n=35) and control group (n=35) consisted of Malaysian national primary school Year 4 pupils. The vocabulary recall and retention of the two intact groups were collated. The data of the two groups were collected from pre-tests, post-tests, and delayed post-tests. These collected data were statistically analysed and assessed. The analysis shown that the Experimental group demonstrated higher recall and retention implying the efficacy of PWIM in enhancing the ESL vocabulary breadth knowledge recall and retention among Malaysian young learners. This study and its findings are of significance to shed light on the development of the ESL vocabulary research. Besides, there is a dearth of thorough study pertinent to the use of images for language learning, especially for the Malaysian primary level 2
