Movies as Tools for Enhancing ESL Learning: Insights into Students’ Emotions and Experiences
Numerous studies have reported that ESL students often struggle with poor motivation, low self-confidence, and high levels of anxiety. Watching movies has a strong potential to ignite these students’ interest in learning English, thereby enhancing their language learning journey. However, integrating movies into language learning is only effective if it positively impacts students’ anxiety, motivation and self-confidence. This study explores university students’ emotional factors along with their experiences to determine whether movies enhance their language learning. An online questionnaire via Google Forms was distributed to 76 participants, including 43 students from the LG241 program (Malay Language for Professional Communication) and 33 from the LG242 program (Arabic Language for Professional Communication) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. Data were extracted and analysed using SPPS version 29 via descriptive statistics. Results showed that movies created a calm and non-intimidating learning atmosphere, fostering increased self-motivation and self-esteem while reducing anxiety. Students also reported improved language skills, as movies provided real-life examples of English usage and immersive learning environments. This study demonstrates that integrating movies into English lessons can improve students’ emotions and experiences, making language learning more effective. Collecting ESL students’ feedback on using movies for language learning helps educators identify areas for improvement. By incorporating students’ perspectives, educators can develop more effective teaching methods, ultimately enhancing the learning experience through unconventional means
The Relationship Between Cognitive Control Capacity and Language Dominance Among Malay Bilinguals
A growing number of research has suggested that bilingualism could be related to enhanced cognitive control functions (Bellegarda & Macizo, 2021), because of frequent interference suppression of the first language when a bilingual speaker chooses to speak in the second language and vice versa. Nevertheless, the relationship was not shown in some studies, which raises various questions regarding previous findings. Hence, more studies are done to explore other facets of bilingual speaker’s experience that could modulate the cognitive control functions. Accordingly, the bilingualism threshold is examined to investigate the bilingual benefits. It is suggested that bilingual benefits are not just about knowing two languages, but more so into the usage of the languages possessed. Hence, some studies claimed that balanced language dominance would have better cognitive control capacity. This is a result of the continuous practice of suppressing one language over the targeted language. Therefore, there is a need to look at how language dominance could be related to cognitive control capacity as language dominance may impact the frequency of switching as well as activation of the two languages. This study reports the findings of the relationship between cognitive control capacity and language dominance of Malay bilinguals. The participants of this study were 69 balanced bilinguals and 74 Malay-dominant bilinguals. The Bilingual Language Profile was adopted to measure the language dominance of the participants of this study. Cognitive control capacity of the participants was measured with the Stroop Task. Through a Pearson-correlation analysis, it was found that there is a significant relationship between language dominance and cognitive control capacity. Thus, the findings of this research as in line with previous literatures where language dominance of a bilingual is related to enhanced cognitive control functions
A Bibliometric Analysis of The Production-Oriented Approach in College English in China from 2015 to 2024

It reveals that research on the Production-Oriented Approach for College English in China from 2015 to 2024 can be divided into the Initial Fast Exploration Stage (2015–2017), Fast Development Stage (2018–2021), and Sustainable Development Stage (2022–2024). High-frequency keywords such as college English teaching, college English writing, blended teaching, teaching assessment, etc. are hotspots for current scholars' attention. The themes of research on the POA of college English in China mainly include teaching practice and application of the Production-Oriented Approach, exploration of the Production-Oriented Approach teaching model and design, and teaching assessment of the POA. “Teaching Reform,” “Blended Teaching," and “Teacher-Student Collaborative Assessment” are the current research frontier issues in the development of a Production-Oriented Approach for college English in China. Overall, the POA represents a significant advancement in China's college English teaching field. Its emphasis on integrating language learning with practical application and whole-person education addresses many of the shortcomings of traditional college English language teaching. To improve teaching development in the reform of POA for college English and to better prepare Chinese students for international communication, future research should prioritize themes such as investigating how digital tools and online platforms in education can enhance the implementation of POA and innovative approaches to teacher education that align with POA principles

Food Security Sustainability among Urban Low-Income Households in Malaysia: A Systematic Literature Review
Food security is a major concern for governments and international organisations around the world. Every country is working to ensure a steady supply of affordable, high-quality meals to meet the needs of all its citizens. This is especially challenging for low-income households. While many studies have been conducted on food security, there has been limited analysis of the sustainability of food security for urban low-income households in Malaysia. The major purpose of this systematic literature review is to look at how urban population increase affects food supply and demand, as well as the consequences of food accessibility, quality, and price inflation on low-income urban families. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were followed by the review. Twenty-eight (28) papers published between 2012 and 2023 were selected from databases like Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and ScienceDirect. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the review. The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) identified three main themes: availability, accessibility, and quality of food. In conclusion, the review highlighted a few gaps in the sustainability of household food security among low-income urban residents in Malaysia. Thus, it is important to explore and investigate the underlying causes of food availability, accessibility, and quality in urban poor households in Malaysia

The Political Potential of Autonomous Time Generation in Jean Genet's The Balcony
With the development of timekeeping machinery in the late Middle Ages, time became publicly visible on mechanical dials. This way of spatializing time aimed to crystallize the flow of time and experience into eternity at a single moment, reaching its peak in the 19th century. The natural rhythm of time and the discrete temporality of personal experience were strictly unified into a series of points, distributed along a historical timeline that never turns back. This unidirectional arrow of time remains evident in the study of The Balcony. Research on The Balcony has primarily focused on its political expressions in space, often overlooking the potential of theatrical temporality. This indicates that studies of the political aspects of The Balcony are overly focused on the dimension of visibility, neglecting the exploration of theatrical invisibility. This article will utilize textual data and analysis, based on Deleuze's theory of Aion time, to develop a discussion on the pure formal time in Genet's theater, incorporating relevant political concepts to explore its autonomously generated political potential further, focusing on the characteristics of theatrical time that continuously provoke questioning and ambiguity
Analysis of the Corporeality and Existence of Social Dance
individuals and society as a whole from the perspective of embodied phenomenology. By examining how individuals express themselves and experience social relationships through dance, it reveals the critical role of the body in social dance and analyzes how dance serves as a bridge for interaction between individuals and society. Simultaneously, it investigates the limitations and potentials of social dance at the phenomenological level, exploring how this bodily practice may constrain or expand individuals' perceptions and experiences of social existence under specific conditions. Through this comprehensive analysis, the paper aims to offer a novel perspective on social dance research and establish a foundation for further understanding the complex relationship between the body and society
The Impact of FDI On Economic Growth: Evidence from Different Sectors and Economic Conditions
The objective of this study is to examine how the foreign direct investment (FDI) influence China's economic expansion and evaluate its diverse role in various sectors and economic circumstances. This study uses multiple regression panel data Fixed Effects models with the robust standard errors to investigate further the potential significant impacts of both FDI inflows and outflows on economic development in China. The study employs panel data from 29 provinces in China, spanning the period from 2003 to 2021 for its analysis. This study found that FDI inflow contribute significantly and positively on growth in three different sectors, while outflow of FDI shows insignificant but positively correlated with growth. The results of coefficients reveal that FDI inflow in secondary sector has the strongest impact on growth, followed by primary and tertiary sector. Additionally, by including crisis in the models, the positive and significant impact of FDI inflow remain unchanged with the domestic investment became significantly and positively affect the economic growth. Hence, this study recommends the policy makers to promote and encourage more foreign investors to invest in China by giving some incentives such as reduction in capital gains taxes and more subsidies to the domestic firms especially in secondary sector
