An Aesthetic Exploration of Sound Illusion in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive

    No full text
Mulholland Drive is the masterpiece of American independent director David Lynch; whose unique sound design constructs an illusory yet real soundscape. Transcendental meditation, polysemous themes, open text, uncontrolled narrative, and disorienting imagery are the keywords to understand the aesthetic characteristics of Lynch's films. However, so far there are few comprehensive and in-depth interpretations of this movie from the perspective of cinematic sound. Therefore, this study analyzes the film from the perspective of sound design and concludes that the unique sound effects in Mulholland Drive can suggest danger and subtly manipulate the audience's emotions. In addition, the human voice in Mulholland Drive has the characteristics of mixing and breaking, and the human voice can establish a new relationship between sound and picture through the audio intervention, and it can also make the character's identity "out of focus" and other artistic effects. Finally, the jazz music in Mulholland Drive can foretell the unknown and create a strong contrast with the narrative of the movie, and other styles of soundtracks in the movie can create a dreamy and perverse ambient space

    No full text
The significance of an instrument is in its capacity to precisely and reliably assess the desired construct. This study aims to examine and construct a tool for assessing the level of preparedness for change within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the digital sharing economy, as well as providing readers with an idea of what procedures should be followed when applying Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), sharing practical information about the latest developments in decisions to use the EFA method. The data were examined and verified using exploratory factor analysis techniques. The present study consisted of 103 SME owners selected randomly and met the predetermined criteria. The findings of this study demonstrate the presence of 86 indicator items categorized into seven fundamental constructs. The items under these seven constructs accounted for 69.1% of the overall variation. The average reliability coefficient for all constructs is 0.97, indicating that the indicators used to measure readiness for change in the digital sharing economy are reliable instruments. In addition to facilitating knowledge acquisition, these discoveries offer a dependable information resource for academics and practitioners in the field who are interested in prospective investigations about shift preparedness within the digital sharing economy. The importance of an instrument lies in its ability to accurately and consistently measure the intended construct

    No full text
This study seeks to examine and reinterpret gender roles shown in the book River of My Blood (Hangor Nodi Grenade, titled in Bangla) by Selina Hossain. Hossain's (2016) work is a compelling story that questions conventional standards by emphasizing the changing experiences of its three central female characters, Boori, Nita, and Ramija. These people live in a society allegedly to be puritanical and misogynistic, in which women have little independence. They are faced with thoughtful questions on the political and sexual persecution of women as well as the differences in political processes. The book, set against the backdrop of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, offers an authentic and detailed account of a significant historical event. Through the characters in this book, the author, Selina Hossain, demonstrates her skill in examining the issue of identity while questioning stereotypical gender norms. This study examines the book's potential to inspire readers by challenging gender stereotypes and presenting perspectives on identity and social roles. This study employed a qualitative research approach, with thematic analysis being the primary method used for data collection. The study showed how the book challenges gender stereotypes and presents perspectives on identity and social roles

    No full text
Work and life are two important and indispensable components of people's social life. Marriage, as a necessary part of most people's life stage, and past studies have also indicated the relevance of marital satisfaction to people's job satisfaction and physical and mental health. The present study aims to quantitatively examine whether their marital satisfaction has an impact on teaching ability from a single-sex perspective among married female university teachers in Guangxi, China. This study employed a quantitative method using the regression method on 556 responses to test the variables relationship by SPSS26. The researcher found that female teachers' marital satisfaction had a positive effect on their teaching abilities; however, female teachers' managerial positions did not moderate the relationship between their marital satisfaction and their teaching ability in the classroom. The exploration of relationships in this study confirms the feasibility of single-sex research for future research regarding the difference between male and female teachers in related areas. At the same time, it is hoped that this study will enable universities and academic faculties to pay attention to the living conditions of teachers and to optimise policies and support for teachers in terms of working hours, career development and work-life balance from a gender perspective
