    A Theoretical Framework to Study the Impact of Integrity Practises on Teachers Quality in Rural Schools

    The changes of globalisation in the flow of education challenge teachers to wisely adapt changes to improve the delivery of existing education. Innovation in education is in line with the rapid pace of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, which plays an important role in producing creative and innovative students. Teachers serve as catalysts for change for students to develop analytical, critical, and creative thinking to become skilled and competitive individuals. However, the growing issue of integrity also requires awareness among teachers of the importance of practising integrity to improve self-quality. Integrity issues in the field of education tarnish the good name of education itself and have resulted in the credibility of teachers being often disputed. The National Integrity Plan was launched in 2004 to address the problem of leakage among civil servants, including teachers. This situation results in the quality of teachers being tarnished and requires support from professional organisations in order to mobilise energy in an integrated and holistic manner to improve the quality of teachers and school performance. Based on the literature review, this article presents the Theory of Personal Psychology and Integrity Strengthening Model to evaluate the effect of integrity practises on the quality of teachers and further strengthen the level of teacher professionalism in rural areas. This theoretical framework study contributes to the management of integrity practises in schools and the Ministry of Education Malaysia, especially in improving the quality and professionalism of teaching

    ESP for Medical Students in Yemen: A Study Investigating the Match and Mismatch of Student and Faculty Perceptions

    This study aims to gather information about the lacks and wants of existing ESP for medical students at Ibb University (IU) in Yemen as a part of a needs analysis with descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. In this study, the quantitative data were collected using questionnaires (n=200) via the maximum variation purposive sampling strategy, while the qualitative data were obtained from semi-structured interviews (n=29) via convenience sampling. The statistical analysis was conducted using IBM® SPSS® Statistics V24. Descriptive statistics analysis involving means and frequencies was used to analyse the quantitative data. In addition, thematic analysis was used to analyse the qualitative data collected from semi-structured interviews. The inferential statistical procedures, using a non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis (K-W) and Mann-Whitney U, were applied to determine any significant differences regarding the English language lacks and wants of the current ESP course. The findings revealed that medical students were proficient in using main English language skills (i.e., reading and listening) but had major weaknesses in grammar, pronunciation and communication skills. Besides, English sub-skills such as reading textbooks, reading course handouts, reading study notes, writing test/exam answers, following lectures, following question/answer sessions in class, and participating in discussions were used proficiently by medical students as perceived by the three groups of respondents. Medical students are required to have more training in speaking and writing. Based on these findings, the present study concluded that conducting a needs analysis is crucial in designing effective ESP courses. Finally, some pedagogical implications would help tap for course designers and recommendations for future studies

    Hubungan Penguasaan Teknologi dalam Pengajaran Bahasa Melayu Secara Dalam Talian Terhadap Kemahiran Mendengar dan Bertutur

    Kajian tinjauan ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti sama ada terdapat hubungan antara penguasaan teknologi dalam pengajaran Bahasa Melayu secara dalam talian terhadap aspek kemahiran mendengar dan bertutur. Kaedah penggunaan teknologi dalam pendidikan diperkenalkan sejak pandemik Covid-19 berleluasa di negara Malaysia. Pelbagai cara telah dijalankan, namun begitu, masih tiada perincian yang jelas tentang cara pelaksanaan latihan bagi aspek kemahiran mendengar dan bertutur dalam kalangan pelajar. Justeru, kajian ini melibatkan seramai 261 orang guru terlatih dari 39 buah sekolah menengah yang telah dipilih secara rawak. Bagi melaksanakan kajian ini, kaedah-kaedah seperti analisis faktor, ujian-t dan analisis regresi digunakan. Kajian ini mendapati bahawa tahap pengetahuan teknologi maklumat dalam kalangan guru Bahasa Melayu semasa wabak pandemik Covid-19 adalah tidak positif disebabkan wabak yang berlaku terjadi secara tiba-tiba. Selain itu, kajian ini membuktikan bahawa guru lelaki adalah yang lebih bersedia berbanding dengan guru perempuan dalam proses pembelajaran pada musim norma baharu. Intiharnya, setiap individu perlu mempelajari serta bersedia dengan apa jua perubahan yang berlaku dalam bidang Pendidikan supaya dapat memperbaiki kelemahan dan kesilapan lampau dalam meneruskan kecemerlangan bidang Pendidikan negara

    The Impact of Service Quality on Teachers’ Satisfaction: The Case of Battambang Teacher Education College

    The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the English Literacy Training Project (ELTP) on the satisfaction of primary school teacher trainees at Battambang Teacher Education College (BTEC), with a specific emphasis on the quality of service provided. Adopting a quantitative research approach, the study distributed 141 questionnaires using random sampling techniques and analyzed the data through descriptive and inferential statistics. The analysis, incorporating Pearson's correlation and regression analyses, aimed to clarify the relationships and effects posited by the research hypotheses. The findings highlighted that the quality of service, across five dimensions—reliability, assurance, tangibility, empathy, and responsiveness—played a significant role in influencing the satisfaction levels of the primary school teacher trainees. Based on these insights, the study suggests improvements that could yield substantial and lasting benefits for both the project's implementers and the educators at BTEC. The importance of this study stems from its demonstration of the crucial role that efficient operational services play in elevating the satisfaction of primary school teacher trainees. It offers valuable guidance for organizations to examine service quality more critically and identify areas where beneficiary satisfaction may be lacking, thereby facilitating ongoing enhancements to service delivery

    The Maldives Criminal Court's Approach in Engaging the Parties in First-degree Felony Murder: A Content Analysis

    The laws concerning first-degree felony murder in the Maldives allow mitigating the punishment if the victim pardons the offender. However, many offenders do not receive a pardon from their victims. Relevant literature suggests that a successful reconciliation would occur in an environment that fosters the expression of remorse and forgiveness. The contrasting outcome indicates a need to understand if the court procedures promote an empathetic outcome. The present analysis aims to address the gap by establishing the approach of the Criminal Court to engaging the parties in cases involving first-degree felony murder, identifying if the court encourages the expression of remorse and forgiveness and establishing how the current approach affects the outcome of the cases. By employing a content analysis method driven by the literature on restorative justice theory, the present study analysed seven different court cases concluded between 2020 and 2023 September that involved first-degree felony murder. The analysis showed that the approach of the Criminal Court to engaging the parties in a first-degree felony murder may include explaining the rights of a victim in the legal system of the Maldives, attempting to humanise the offender or the victim or simply seeking the opinion of the victim concerning the punishment. The case analysis also demonstrated that offenders were less remorseful and victims were less forgiving. The analysis showed that the current procedures are inadequate to foster remorse and forgiveness and recommended employing restorative justice processes to engage the parties

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengenal pasti tahap kemahiran pemikiran kelestarian dalam kalangan pelajar institut pengajian tinggi awam. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kajian tinjauan dan instrumen yang digunakan adalah borang soal selidik. Responden kajian ini terdiri daripada 363 orang pelajar dari bidang sains dan sains sosial. Kajian ini menggunakan perisian Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS) versi 27 untuk menganalisis data kajian secara deskriptif dan inferensi iaitu ujian MANOVA. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa pelajar institut pengajian tinggi awam mempunyai tahap kemahiran pemikiran kelestarian yang tinggi. Manakala, ujian MANOVA menunjukkan bahawa tidak terdapat perbezaan jantina yang signifikan untuk tahap kemahiran pemikiran kelestarian dalam kalangan pelajar institut pengajian tinggi awam. Implikasi dalam kajian ini mencadangkan agar pengintegrasian pemikiran kelestarian dalam pendidikan tinggi dapat diteruskan agar generasi masa hadapan berupaya menyelesaikan masalah yang kompleks secara lestari

    Pentaksiran merupakan salah satu proses yang penting untuk memastikan murid mencapai objektif pembelajaran. Perkembangan teknologi pada masa kini telah membawa pembaharuan dalam sistem pentaksiran termasuklah menggunakan bahan digital untuk mentaksir pencapaian murid. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap penggunaan bahan digital dalam pentaksiran mata pelajaran Sejarah di sekolah rendah. Selain itu, kajian ini juga bertujuan untuk membandingkan amalan pentaksiran digital dalam kalangan guru opsyen dengan bukan opsyen Sejarah. Kajian ini berbentuk kajian tinjauan dengan menggunakan borang soal selidik sebagai instrumen kajian. Responden kajian terdiri daripada 118 orang guru Sejarah sekolah rendah di daerah Bangsar-Pudu. Hasil kajian menunjukkan tahap pengetahuan guru Sejarah tentang pentaksiran menggunakan bahan digital adalah sederhana tinggi. Tahap penggunaan bahan digital dalam pentaksiran mata pelajaran Sejarah juga sederhana tinggi. Selain itu, tidak terdapat perbezaan amalan pentaksiran digital dalam kalangan guru opsyen dengan bukan opsyen Sejarah. Kajian ini dapat memberi gambaran kepada Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia bagi merancang strategi dan menyediakan fasiliti untuk menggalakkan guru menggunakan bahan digital dalam pentaksiran

    Pembangunan dan Keberkesanan Modul Berasaskan Permainan Dengan Penerapan Pemikiran Komputasi

    Penyelidikan ini bertujuan membangun dan menilai keberkesanan modul pengajaran dan pembelajaran berasaskan permainan dengan penerapan pemikiran komputasi (PPPK) bagi tajuk pecahan sekolah rendah. Penyelidikan ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk penyelidikan pembangunan serta kaedah kuasi- eksperimen. Penyelidikan pembangunan yang diaplikasikan dalam penyelidikan ini adalah berdasarkan kepada langkah-langkah pembinaan modul yang diubahsuai daripada model Plomp, yang mengandungi lima fasa iaitu (i) penyelidikan awal, (ii) perancangan, (iii) realisasi dan kesahan modul, (iv) penilaian, kepraktikalan dan keberkesanan serta (v) pelaksanaan. Komponen-komponen modul yang dibina terdiri daripada buku modul, lembaran kerja murid dan rancangan pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Penilaian modul PPPK melibatkan ujian kesahan, kebolehpercayaan, kepraktikalan dan keberkesanan. Sampel penyelidikan ini terdiri daripada 120 orang murid di dua buah sekolah di negeri Johor yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik persampelan bertujuan. Dapatan penyelidikan menunjukkan bahawa modul PPPK yang dibina memenuhi syarat kesahan berdasarkan penilaian oleh tiga orang pensyarah matematik dan tiga orang pakar pendidikan matematik dengan nilai IKK kesemua item melebihi nilai 0.80 daripada nilai maksimum 1.00. Instrumen penilaian modul PPPK yang dibina juga memenuhi syarat kebolehpercayaan apabila diuji terhadap murid tahun 5 yang menjadi responden penyelidikan dengan nilai pekali kebolehpercayaan indeks persetujuan kesemua item melebihi 80% daripada nilai maksimum 100%. Dari aspek kepraktikalan, penyelidikan yang dilakukan mendapati bahawa modul PPPK adalah praktikal digunakan berdasarkan penilaian oleh enam orang pakar. Begitu juga modul PPPK berkesan dalam meningkatkan pencapaian dan minat murid jika dibandingkan dengan kaedah pembelajaran konvensional. Ini adalah kerana terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan (t=-16.428, p<0.001) antara pencapaian murid kumpulan rawatan (Min=13.150, SP=4.278) dan kumpulan kawalan (Min=7.317, SP=2.849) di mana pancapaian murid kumpulan rawatan adalah lebih tinggi berbanding dengan kumpulan kawalan
