    No full text
This study investigates students' readiness and perceptions towards using Unity, a development platform, for creating a Multimedia Interactive Package (MIP). With the growing demand for interactive digital content in education, it is crucial to understand students’ readiness and perceptions in engaging with a platform like Unity in developing a language learning application in the form of MIP. The study examines language students' technology readiness as well as their perceptions towards integrating technology into educational content creation. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey to gather data using a set of questionnaires. The sample involved university language students who enrolled in multimedia development courses. Results indicate that while students generally show enthusiasm for using Unity, students faced challenges that may affect their learning experiences. However, the perceived benefits, including enhanced creativity, interactivity, and practical skill development, contribute to a positive overall attitude. The findings suggest that with adequate support and training, Unity can be a valuable tool for developing educational MIPs, promoting both student engagement and technical proficiency

Faceless Women and Portrait Multiplicity: Representation of the Self in Contemporary Iranian Women Artists' Self-Portraits

    No full text
This article explores the representation of the self in self-portraiture, focusing on analysing the artwork of several contemporary Iranian women artists. It delves into how the Iranian government's enforcement of specific appearances for women, as part of shaping an Islamic identity, has compelled Iranian women artists to challenge conventional notions of women's self and identity in their self-portraits. The article demonstrates that the concept of “self” for these artists is not a singular or objective entity, but rather a collective construct. This research employs dramaturgy theory, a sociological framework that situates the self within the context of compliance with controlling social behaviors and religious laws aligned with the governmental political agenda. It aims to explore how Iranian women artists challenge political and women's rights issues in Iran’s society. This approach is explored through the concepts of “faceless women” and “portrait multiplicity”, emphasizing its unique approach to the theme of self-portraiture

Assessing Sustainable Development Goal 6 Progress and Challenges in South Sudan: A Global Perspective

    No full text
Achieving sustainable development, which addresses present needs while preserving future generations' well-being, remains a global priority. Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015, SDG 6 underscores the critical importance of access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation. However, progress toward this goal is hindered by persistent challenges globally, particularly in South Sudan, where conflict, political instability, and inadequate infrastructure severely impact implementation efforts. This study examines South Sudan's progress, challenges, and prospects for achieving SDG 6. Utilizing data from the Sustainable Development Report (2023) and a combination of qualitative-to-quantitative analysis and cluster categorization, the study situates South Sudan within a group of countries facing similar socio-political and developmental challenges. Findings reveal significant deficits in access to clean water and sanitation, with South Sudan ranked among the lowest globally for SDG 6 performance. The high spillover index should be important also, because it indicates the extent of the need for interaction with other countries with regards to the cross-cutting problems. This paper therefore calls for the development of all-inclusive approaches such as Infrastructure development, sound management of natural resources and Wastewater management systems. Moreover, creating sustainable and stable societies in conflict regions should be the priority toward the achievement of the SDG 6 and advancing broader sustainable development goals. The findings underscore the necessity for holistic, collaborative approaches to overcome entrenched barriers and enhance access to water and sanitation in South Sudan and similar contexts globally

The Feedback Dilemma: Aligning L2 Writing Instruction with Student Preferences

    No full text
In writing classes, teachers implement Written Corrective Feedback (WCF) as a form of Corrective Feedback (CF). It is an instructional strategy teachers used in the classroom to improve L2 students' writing skills. Nevertheless, the incongruity between the preferences of students and the instructional strategies employed by teachers for WCF has resulted in challenges for teachers and perplexity for the students. The study aims to achieve the following objectives: 1) to examine the forms of CF used by L2 teachers when assessing students' writing, 2) to explore the types of CF that students prefer when receiving feedback on their writing, and 3) to determine whether the teachers' WCF practices align with the students' preferences. The researchers employed the Feedback Scale to gather data for the study. Additionally, purposive opportunistic sampling was utilised in selecting the study’s participants. The findings show that the L2 teachers provide more indirect WCF and focused WCF, whereas the L2 students prefer direct WCF and unfocused WCF. This demonstrates the concept of a disparity between the pedagogical approaches that teachers employ and the preferences that students have expressed regarding WCF. The study has implications on the writing instruction of English Language writing class
