    No full text
The widespread use of the Internet has played a significant role in the popularity of social media platforms. Among these, the global phenomenon of Instagram stands out, serving as one of the vital means of communication across the world. Particularly among teenagers and young adults, social media has become an integral part of daily life, facilitating interactions and self-expression. Teens and young adults, who often prioritize peer approval, physical appearance, and self-representation, are drawn to social networking sites (SNS) due to the opportunities they offer for connecting with peers and exploring their identity within a social context. As the use of social networking sites among youths has surged, researchers have taken an interest in how visual images can be employed to portray oneself on these platforms. Hence, this current study aims to delve into the self-presentation of female teens and young adults through their photos, specifically focusing on Instagram. A total of 40 participants fitting the criteria of being female, aged between 12 to 17 (teenagers) and aged 18 to 25 (young adults), residing in urban areas, and active users of Instagram, were selected. Analysing 200 images from these participants, the study employed Kress and van Leeuwen's (1996, 2006) semiotic analysis framework to decode the visual aspects. The study's outcomes revealed some comparisons of online trends in self-presentation on Instagram between the two age groups; teenagers and young adults. Age emerged as a key factor influencing the self-presentation patterns within these groups

    No full text
This research paper critically examines the multifaceted issue of child labour, shedding light on its complexities, evaluating existing legal frameworks, and proposing comprehensive solutions. Focusing primarily on Malaysia, the study navigates through international standards, notably the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989 (CRC), which unequivocally prohibits economic exploitation and hazardous work for children, emphasizing their holistic development and protection. The analysis encompasses a thorough review of Malaysia’s legislative landscape, including key statutes such as the Children and Young Persons (Employment) Act 1966, Sabah Labour Ordinance (Cap 67), and Sarawak Labour Ordinance (Cap 76). This research highlights the gaps in Malaysian laws, particularly the absence of explicit guidelines on work allowed to be done by children. Furthermore, the research situates child labour within the broader human rights discourse, drawing on international instruments like the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The findings underscore the urgent need for holistic solutions that extend beyond legal reforms, such as refining definitions within existing legislation, aligning Malaysian laws with international standards, enhancing enforcement mechanisms, and incorporating explicit provisions on employer responsibilities. The paper advocates for a nuanced understanding of child labour's interconnectedness with broader rights, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive approach to eradicating this pervasive issue, which calls for collective action to create a world where every child is afforded the right to a childhood free from exploitation, ensuring their well-being, dignity, and the realization of their full potential

The development of the Internet shifted people's attention away from traditional media and towards new media. People utilize an abundance of social media platforms to remain informed about news, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (previously known as Twitter), and others. However, modern technology allows users to look for information on economic, political, and entertainment issues. Thousands of bytes of data were released worldwide to inform and draw attention. Youth's perceptions of the media usage's credibility were being questioned as a result of the unchecked news spreading through the social media platform. Hence, this study was conducted quantitatively and data were collected via an online survey consisting of 80 questions and were analyzed using SPSS. A total number of 44 undergraduate students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Negeri Sembilan was selected as a sample for this pilot study. An Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was also conducted to assess the number of constructs or factors involved, as well as item quality, item loading factors, and construct validity. The result shows that the items involved in measuring the variable were reliable and normally distributed. The reliability test reveals that the internal consistency is considered excellent except for two factors (Cronbach’s alpha = .70), which is considered good

Work engagement is a vital practice that should be encouraged among employees and employers, particularly within large companies or organizations. This importance arises from the fact that such entities typically have multiple divisions and sub-divisions, including departments and sections. Work engagement plays a crucial role in fostering effective teamwork among employees and employers across these various departments. While the interplay between work engagement and life satisfaction has been explored in both Western and non-Western studies, there is limited research on this topic within the context of Sabah, Malaysia. Moreover, research focusing on the relationship between work engagement and life satisfaction in Sabah remains relatively sparse. This study aims to investigate the role of marital status as a moderator in the relationship between dimensions of work engagement and dimensions of life satisfaction. A total of 348 female government servants participated in this research, which employed a snowball sampling method. Data collection was concentrated in the district of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Questionnaires, both online and physical, were distributed among the participants. The findings suggest that marital status moderates the relationship between work engagement and life satisfaction among female government servants in Kota Kinabalu. Furthermore, marital status partially moderates the relationship between their dedication to job responsibilities and their cognitive life satisfaction
