Shock-absorbing wall mounts for network cameras : Development and validation of an elastomer-based damping system to meet IK-10 impact requirements
This master's thesis was conducted in collaboration with Axis Communications AB and aims to develop a shock-absorbing wall mount for network cameras, specifically the Q18-series. The problem was identified through aggressive physical testing of the cameras, which can limit design freedom when extending the leverage. The solution focuses on creating a mounting bracket with an integrated damping system, where multiple concepts were developed, simulated, and tested. The chosen solution was an elastomer-based system that demonstrated strong performance in both simulations and physical testing. Results show that the selected design reduces stress in exchange for temporary deformation under impact, making the product more resistant to external forces. The project also addresses sustainability aspects such as cost-efficiency, environmental impact, and ergonomics during installation. The conclusion is that the developed damping system meets the requirements for mechanical strength and practical usability, with strong potential for implementation in other products within Axis' portfolio
Betongsstyrka och koldioxidemission i kalla klimat : En miljöanalys
This thesis investigates the feasibility and environmental advantages of using climate-improved concrete (CIC) with reduced clinker content in cold weather conditions, in comparison to conventional concrete with higher clinker content. Cement production accounts for approximately 5–8% of global CO₂ emissions, and optimizing concrete mixtures is essential for minimizing environmental impact. Through numerical simulations using the HETT22 software, different CIC levels were analyzed under varying winter temperatures to assess temperature and strength development. The study also quantifies CO₂ emissions associated with the heating measures required to protect the concrete during early curing stages. Results show that although CIC has slower early strength gain, appropriate heating strategies can ensure sufficient curing without compromising long-term performance. While heating increases emissions, CIC still offers a net reduction in total CO₂ emissions compared to conventional concrete. The findings highlight the potential of CIC as a sustainable alternative in cold climates, provided that appropriate measures are taken
Tracing structural racism in Swedish policing : Laws, practices, and technologies of criminalized difference
In 2008, the Swedish legislature removed any references to race and racial difference,formalizing a post-racial discourse. This has resulted in both the near impossibility ofproving discrimination based on racialized difference, and a formal denial of racial dis-crimination as a social and structural problem. This article attempts to circumscribethese difficulties by suggesting an approach for tracing structural racism in Swedishpolicing. We argue that a claim of structural racism in policing cannot be studied bycounting self-proclaimed racist officers or through individual experiences, for race is astructure in and of itself. Instead, we claim that structural racism can methodologicallybe studied through a combined reading of relevant (a) laws, (b) practices, and (c) tech-nologies of policing, since these habitually produce racialized outcomes even in theabsence of direct references to race or ethnicity. Reflecting this tripartite approach tothe study of structural racism, we analyze data gathered from these three specificsites. We argue that developments in criminal policies and policing practices reproduceand reinforce structural racism as part of the wider penal structure, leading to a repro-duction of the targets of punitive policies and police control in the intersection of class,place, race, and ethnicity. © The Author(s) 202
Semi-automatisk modellering av armering i Revit : - för nybörjare i Dynamo
This thesis is aims to answer the following questions to get detailed information about buildings element such as rebars, from 2D-drawing to information in a BIM-model · What obstacles are there to start using Dynamo for project planning? · Is there a need for prior knowledge of Dynamo? This has been investigated through empirical research and interviews with educators who run courses on Dynamo and students who have learnt to use Dynamo. In the study, the author has learned to use Dynamo from scratch, through self-study of courses and online articles. In the study, the author identifies some barriers to start to use Dynamo for design, and there is no need for prior knowledge of Dynamo to start using the programme. The barriers to start to use Dynamo can be divided into two areas: · the learning process of Dynamo and knowledge of Dynamo and Revit · dealing with technical issues with Dynamo. Where the learning process was the biggest barrier to start to use Dynamo, because Dynamo can have a steep learning curve that can take a long time to overcome. This is because a lot of knowledge of Dynamo and Revit is required to create advanced scripts such as adding detailed information to the BIM model. Th author of the study had to spend a lot of time finding the right information about Dynamo. It is also clear from the interviews that the learning process is the biggest barrier to start to use Dynamo. The students interviewed learned to use Dynamo by taking a course in Parametric Design at university. The author concluded from the study and the interviews that it would be easier to learn through a structured course at university. And all civil engineering students should take a course in Parametric Design as part of their education, where you learn visual or text-based prediction.I detta arbete har det undersökts hur ovana konstruktörer på egen hand kan lära sig att använda Dynamo för att lägga in detaljinformation i BIM-program. Det är en hel del detaljinformation om tredimensionella byggnadselement som konstruktörer ska producera i designfasen som enbart finns som 2D-ritningar i CAD-program. Att lägga in detaljinformationen manuellt innebär oftast många repetitiva arbetsmoment initialt och sedan behövs mycket tid för att ändra detaljinformationen om det blir ändringar i designfasen. En lösning på detta problem är att lägga in detaljinformationen i BIM-program, där det kan enkelt ändras. Men många konstruktörer anser det tar för lång tid att lägga informationen i BIM-program för att det krävs många manuella inmatningar. Ett sätt lägga in detaljinformation i BIM-program utan alltför många manuella inmatningar är att använda script med hjälp av tilläggsprogram som Dynamo. Dynamo är en visuell programmeringsplattform för att skapa script. Det har i detta examensarbete undersökts vilka hinder som finns för att börja använda Dynamo för projektering, samt vilka kunskaper om Dynamo som krävs. Möjligheten att använda Dynamo för på ovan nämnda sätt har undersökts via en empirisk studie samt med hjälp av interjuver med utbildare vilka håller kurser om Dynamo samt även studenter som har lärt sig använda Dynamo. I studien har författaren via självinlärningsstudier lärt sig att använda Dynamo från grunden, med hjälp av diverse kurser och artiklar på nätet. Ett resultat från studien är att det finns en del hinder med börja lära sig Dynamo för projektering. Det finns emellertid inget behov av förkunskaper om Dynamo för att börja använda programmet. Hinder för att börja använda Dynamo kan delas in i två områden: § inlärningprocessen av Dynamo och kunskaper om Dynamo och Revit, samt § hantera diverse tekniska problem med Dynamo. I de fall inlärningsprocessen var det största hindret för börja använda programverktyget, kan det ta lång tid att övervinna hinderna på grund av den branta inlärningskurvan som Dynamo uppvisar. Hinderna orsakas av de stora krav på förkunskap Dynamo, samt även av ett ytterligare verktyg som behövs (Revit). Dessa krav på förkunskaper krävs för att skapa avancerade script för att lägga in detaljinformation i BIM-modellen. Författaren i studien fick dessutom lägga mycket tid hitta rätt information om Dynamo.
Designing and Evaluating AI Optimized Datasets to Enhance Telecom Retrieval Performance in RAG Systems
Developing a domain-specific dataset to enhance retrieval relevance in the telecommunications field is a complex task that requires expertise in natural language processing. This project aimed to improve the performance of Ericsson’s CoreChat system by leveraging artificial intelligence techniques and advanced language models. Python was utilized for data collection, preprocessing, and dataset creation, with OpenAI’s GPT-3 model employed to generate related questions. Text embedding was facilitated through the Ericsson Language Intelligence API, resulting in a dataset specifically aligned with telecommunications queries. The effectiveness of the dataset was evaluated using two vectorization techniques, traditional TF-IDF and ELI embeddings via the specter2-base model. Both methods used cosine similarity to calculate the relevance scores between the user query, the reference document, and the dataset entries. The evaluation revealed that searches conducted with the enhanced dataset consistently produced better match results. Specter2-base embeddings demonstrated superior semantic depth and contextual relevance, achieving higher alignment with complex queries, as evidenced by consistently higher cosine similarity scores. This project highlights the value of domain-specific datasets in improving the retrieval relevance for industry-specific applications. By enhancing CoreChat’s ability to handle telecommunications-specific queries, the project sets the stage for further system enhancements. Ideologiska skiljelinjer och kriminalpolitik : En ideologianalys av Jönköpings och Norrköpings kommun
The study aims to compare how the municipalities of Jönköping and Norrköping work to prevent youth crime, particularly focusing on ideological differences reflected in their strategies and interventions. Through a qualitative text analysis, the study examines the municipalities’ crime policies and the ideological values embedded in their preventive work. The theoretical frameworks of David Easton’s input-output model and the governance perspective are used to analyze differences in political inputs (ideological values) and outputs (practical measures). The findings indicate that Jönköping adopts a long-term, collaboration-based strategy that prioritizes children's rights and well-being through inclusive initiatives and strong civic engagement. In contrast, Norrköping emphasizes efficiency and repressive methods with rapid interventions and strong coordination between the municipality and authorities. These differences reflect the ideological foundations of the municipalities' political coalitions. Jönköping’s governing parties emphasize social inclusion and collaboration, whereas Norrköping’s leadership prioritizes control and individual-based measures. The study concludes that ideological values significantly influence the implementation of crime policy at the local level. At the same time, it highlights the need to combine legitimacy and efficiency in crime prevention to create sustainable long-term solutions. This provides insights into how crime policy can be improved through adaptation to local conditions and collaboration among various stakeholders. It has the potential to make healthcare more accessible and improve the quality of life for those with long-term conditions. However, concerns about trust and privacy in AI-generated health information can affect how willing people are to use it. This study looks at these concerns and how they influence user acceptance. First genomic insights into an Aeshnidae dragonfly : unveiling the genome of a Holarctic species, Aeshna juncea
Temperature oscillations in the Arctic may present a unique opportunity to studyhow insect species respond to such changes. Aeshna juncea, a Holarctic species of the family Aeshnidae thrives in this environment; molecular adaptations that allow it to survive in the Arctic have yet to be evaluated. Here, we present the first assembled and annotated draft genome assembly and annotation of A. juncea. The assembly is both highly contiguous and complete. This resource is presented and used here to provide further evidence that transposons and unclassified repetitive elements are a major driver behind genome size variationin Odonata and show that the effective population size of A. juncea populations from Alaska went through bottlenecks during the most recent ice age.
