The complexity of the female role
No full textThroughout history women have been the object of oppression by patriarchal society. Men have had more privileges than women and although women in earlier days have tried to resist they have been the object and not the subject. The Madonna/Whore complex is still present in many ways as there are restrictions of how women are entitled to behave according to patriarchal society. However involves a third factor; the intellectual or the universal woman who faces nearly the same problem as courtesans and prostitutes did in earlier days in order to obtain a lifelong partner. This study will shed light on the dilemma that a great deal of women encounter when struggling with love and relationships. I have analysed four short stories from Margaret Atwood´s Wilderness tips; Wilderness Tips, Hairball, True Trash and The Bog Man. The women in these novels experience subordination in their relationship to men either as a Madonna, whore or intellectual. To come to this conclusion I have examined the short stories from different perspectives in terms of which role they each portray, how they reveal their implications in the narrative and how projective identification empowers women in relationships. "Att vara en riktigt svensk" : En kvalitativ studie om integrationsprojektet Wow
No full textAtt vara invandrare beskrivs ofta felaktigt som en egenskap eller ett tillstånd hos individer. Istället för att beskriva det som den händelse det faktiskt är, en händelse föranledd utav en flytt från en plats till en annan. I den här uppsatsen undersöker vi kvinnors upplevelse av hur integrationsarbetet fungerar i det ideella projektet Women on Wednesdays och som vi i vår uppsats förkortar Wow med syfte att spåra hur deltagarna i projektet upplever att sin integration görs möjlig. Wow är ett projekt som enbart riktar sig mot kvinnor och där tanken är att hälften av deltagarna ska vara invandrarkvinnor och hälften svenska. Våra frågeställningar präglas av vilken betydelse projektet har för deltagarna, såväl de invandrade kvinnorna som de svenska, och även initiativtagaren till projektet berörs i vår undersökning då vi är intresserade av att höra hennes upplevelse och tankar om behovet av integrationsarbete i samhället. Vår metod är kvalitativ med en fenomenologisk hermeneutisk ansats och vi utför semistrukturerade intervjuer med både invandrarkvinnor och svenska kvinnor. I vårt resultat framkom att Wow, med sin arbetsmetod utav en jämn fördelning på svenska respektive utländska kvinnor är oerhört nödvändig och banbrytande. Att särskilt inrikta sig mot kvinnor har visat sig vara ett gott koncept för att nå ett tryggt och positivt klimat där invandrarkvinnan kan anamma det svenska samhällets spelregler och nå gemenskap med andra kvinnor med liknande bakgrund samt få inblick och tillträde till i hur den svenska kvinnan lever och tänker

No full textThis qualitative study deals with experiences regarding the teaching of newcomer students in introductory courses, pertaining solely to the newcomer students’ perception of religion as a school subject. The essay is based on an analysis of a series of interviews with teachers of the aforementioned students. The questions are based on pedagogical challenges and usage of intercultural pedagogy. Another important question is how the teaching environment is affected by external factors such as cultural/religious tendencies, student guidance counsellors, interpreters, family of students as well as school leadership. The material comprising five interviews has consequently been analyzed using two different theories: intercultural pedagogy and orientalism. The results of the study divulge a lack of knowledge in intercultural pedagogy among the interviewees and major flaws in the transfer of that specific pedagogical perspective in both teacher education and school. Experiences have been accounted for that point to the existence of "the other" in introduction to language studies and that core values of the curriculum are not respected to the extent that they should. Another tendency is a general lack of response and guidance from school leadership. Interviewed teachers experience that they are forced to take personal responsibility for the education of newcomer students despite lack of education in the field of intercultural pedagogy. By illustrating the teacher's perspective of religious studies with newcomer students we are hoping to further promote the importance of competence in introduction to language studies
